This bolt extractor saved the day!
My shower jets dripped constantly, so I tried to replace the volume control cartridge. Because of the calcium & lime buildup, the cartridge was frozen in the valve. I used a 12-point socket to try turn the bolt, but it rounded/stripped the the bolt, making it unable to turn. Because of the small opening in the tile, I didn't have room to maneuver alternative tools to unfreeze the cartridge. I tried a 6 point socket (which I should've used the first time, had I known then what I know now) and it still didn't budge. Other suggestions by plumbers, hardware tool experts, plumbing supply stores, and the cartridge manufacturer: drip vinegar/water solution onto bolt, use vise grip tips, use screw extractor on the stem, drip CLR onto bolt, spray PB blaster on bolt, heat the stem, remove and replace the 24x24 piece of travertine into which the cartridge was set, etc. I tried every suggestion and was just about ready to remove the travertine so plumber could get leverage on the bolt when I searched for "bolt extractor" on Amazon. I had successfully used a screw extractor to remove the frozen handle on this valve previously (when the plumber I hired said he would have to saw off the handle, necessitating replacing 6 parts of the trim kit, which are no longer made). The original bolt was 18mm and needed a deep well socket, something that I was not able to find anywhere in my hometown, so I ordered Irwin's 17mm Bolt-Grip Deep Well Bolt Extractor from Amazon, hoping that because the bolt was rounded, this size would work. My stripped bolt was a little bigger than the bolt extractor, but I hammered the bolt extractor onto the bolt, then used a breaker bar to turn the bolt. What I spent 2 weeks trying to do (after numerous trips to stores, conversations with experts, purchases of other gadgets), this Bolt Extractor did in seconds! This was basically my last ditch attempt before removing and replacing the tile. It is perplexing that the most experienced plumber in my town--even when asked about the bolt extractor--or all the specialty hardware stores I polled, did not suggest this solution. This bolt extractor works just like it says it does!!! In fact, it worked so well that I can't remove the stripped bolt from the extractor, so will have to purchase another one if I ever have this problem again. Thank you Amazon and Irwin!!!

Saved the day - worked as advertised
Ok - I was in a hurry and used a 15mm hex on a 14mm bolt - holding an engine mount in place in my Mazda. Rounded it off. Nothing could get it off... I was able to get the other one off with the correct 14mm hex - but even that one - I needed my long cheater bar on the wrench... So - I read the reviews - looked interesting - so I bought it. I used my impact wrench with extension - pushing down on it for about 20 seconds... Well, it did not budge... So - I carefully pulled the air hammer off and put my 28 inch cheater in the extension to get some torque... It started to move... I was afraid that I was just rounding off the top of the grade 8 bolt again... But - NO... It had broken loose... Now - I read in a review that the tool gets a little dull after you use it... I could not tell. All I know is if it did get dull - I don't care. I'll buy another one in a heartbeat if I ever round off another nut or bolt again... This thing was only $7.75 as an add on item... This is an amazing product... Now - I don't know how it would work with a normal drill in impact mode (they give you the adapter shown in the picture for this to happen). I suspect the results would be the same... Hey - this is not a free product that I'm writing about - I bought this thing. It worked. YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG...

Perfect for Chrysler/Jeep lug nuts with those metal cover shell!
Work perfect to get a pounded on very azz-tight Chrysler/Jeep lug nut with those metal cover shell. These lugs are not 3/4" socket and not 17mm with the cover they are actually like 17.5mm, they sell a special socket for them if you're a professional. Well the last joker who put the lugs on nailed them down and one was beat-up and rounded over. Trying to get it off it just got worse. I used a small chisel to remove the metal cover shell and even a 6 point 17mm was still slipping. After a ton of looking and search I thought this had the best chance being it has a deep and aggressive bite. Pound it in place barred down with a 30" breaker bar, stopped hit a couple of more times to be positive it was in place. Then very slow and smoothly put everything on it! I never had a thought that the tool wasn't on biting tight in place, and that lug had to finally had to submit. Bought a set of new solid lug nuts and install them with a little anti-seize given them a proper torque.

Irwin 9/16 "BOLT GRIP'' gets rounded spark plug out of Ford 5.4 liter !!!
While changing spark plugs on my 2006 F150 5.4 , the problematic galled plugs stuck and i rounded the shoulder but did not break the plug. The tool and I were successful the first attempt to extract a spark plug with a rounded shoulder bolt.I used a electric impact gun with the good tool. The plug had been stuck because i had no way to grip it and unloosen it out of the cylinder short of breaking and extracting with special tools and skillful procedure. The Irwin 9/16 seemed to dull a bit after using it only once, which is acceptable. I like the way the socket internal area area narrows as the fastener travels up the socket as the user turns the tool, making it more secure .There is a tool called "gator grip" that claims it grips stripped bolts as well, but i needed deep well and it was not available. Irwin bolt grip is good quality and heavy weight. buy the set if u want to save. A quality tool for sure.Make sure you use a impact gun with the tool for a higher success rate.It worked for me.

Quickly removed a stripped oil drain plug on a 2013 Honda Accord Touring
Used this to remove a stripped oil drain plug on a 2013 Honda Accord (v6). Worked perfectly. I spent the time to ensure it was hammered on to the stripped plug. Put a cheater bar on it and it came right off. Remember, if you want to remove the bad, removed bolt from the extractor once the bolt is out and in your hand, simply clamp on to the edge of the bold or even threads with a vice grip or bench vice and put an impact wrench on the extractor and run it in CLOCKWISE motion. It will spin right off. Don't forget it works in reverse motion.

Worked great!
I had a stuck 12mm bolt on my rear brake caliper and rounded it off using a cheap wrench, PB Blaster, and a 5lb hammer to try and crack the bolt free. There was much cussing. This arrived in the mail, and it gripped the round bolt head tightly, not caring that there were no flats left any more. With the help of an 18" breaker bar the bolt was removed successfully and I was able to continue fixing my brakes. Great product!!

When stuck, try this socket - it works.
I had to buy this socket to remove a very stubborn oil pan drain bolt from my car. It worked, after hammering it (carefully, the pan is aluminum) onto the head of the bolt. It took a few unnerving seconds for the impact driver to turn the bolt loose. All in all, this socket probably saved me the aggravation and expense of a trip to the dealer. And I hate to admit defeat...
