The reason for the 4 stars is because your compatibility chart showed the one I ordered was the appropriate one and the 5/8" wouldn't work, I contacted Bolt after I received my order to get a longer hitch pin and they said that the 5/8" was the right one and your compatibility chart was incorrect. They did not offer to replace the whole lock with the 5/8", but they would send me a longer hitch pin for the one that i received indicating the 1/2" would work OK.

Compatibility chart is for your vehicle's key, only -- not necessarily your hitch (explained)
As long as you read and understand the product specs, and order the correct item, you will not be disappointed, because these are amazing... but be aware that Amazon's compatibility chart is only telling you whether the lock is compatible with your vehicle model's key -- not your vehicle's hitch receiver. This means for any given vehicle, there may be two "compatible" models, but only one of them will be right for your specific situation. These locks can be purchased with *either* a 1/2" pin or a 5/8" pin. (Not both.) The model with a 1/2" pin is only intended for use with lighter-duty Class I and II hitches, which have a receiver size of 1.25" or less and use a 1/2" pin. The 5/8" lock model may be compatible with your vehicle's key, but if you have a Class I or II hitch, the pin's diameter is probably too big to fit. Conversely, the lock model with the 5/8" pin is intended for use with heavier-duty receivers of Class III/IV/V which have a receiver opening of 2.0" or larger, and require a 5/8" pin. If you have one of these receivers, again, there is probably a 1/2" model compatible with the *key* to your vehicle, but the pin is both too small in diameter for safe and stable operation, and too short in length to work properly with your hitch system. Find the lock whose mechanism matches the key style of your vehicle *and* that matches the class of your towing equipment (based on the pin size), and you will have selected the right product. This really seems like a pretty slick piece of engineering. The lock comes with two seals to indicate that it has never been used. The first time you insert your vehicle's key, the lock learns to recognize the specific cut of your key, and that key (including identical copies of the key, of course) is the only key the lock will ever recognize. (For that reason, one should never buy a "used" BOLT lock -- they are permanently mated to the first key they are used with... hence the seals. If you sell your vehicle, give the new owner your lock.) If you know the difference between the operating "feel" of a cheap lock and a quality lock, I expect you'll be pleased here, too -- the lock feels very well-machined, and there's no "play" in the key mechanism. It's heavy. Because the lock is designed to always be locked, when you turn the key to unlock it, the key springs back to the locked position -- so while it's not strictly impossible to operate with only one hand, it's admittedly easier if you have two hands available to remove it: one to turn the key and hold it in the unlocked position, the other to hold the lock body stationary in the rotational direction of the key, and then pull it off the pin.

This BOLT 1/2' Receiver Hitch Lock is quality made, but w/ mediocre results
Great that this lock will work with one's Ford / Mercury / Lincoln / Mazda standard factory key, however the stainless steel pin is a little TOO short! Why could they (BOLT) make this with a slightly long pin as that would help out immensely in getting to use this product: now have to shop around for a slightly longer 1/2" pin to make this work properly and engage the lock. Awesome idea of n-o-t having to have yet another key to carry around & possibly lose, however the final result was disappointing...even thought this cannot be used this now, am being nice here and giving a 3 out of 5 starts as this lock is well built and well conceived. Take a hint there BOLT and make a *longer* stainless 1/2" pin for this!

Good. Small hitch pin.
Great lock. Fit perfect for my f350 super duty. Hitch pin itself is small though.

Lock is good quality , key system is a great idea “1 key to control them....”
If the pin was the right length it would be easy to use. But with a pin that nearly protrudes from the receive, it is quite useless, therefore not easy to use. This is a great product idea, it’s secure, it’s weather proof. But the product selection process needs work. For example: I have an 03 Silverado. My only option are the 5/8” pin or 1/2” pin. I need the 1/2” pin. But my receiver hitch is 3” wide. And the 1/2” pin is only 3” long. But there’s no option for a longer pin with lock that uses my key. Besides going to the 5/8” pin which don’t fit. So now I’m forced To order a pin from another company on amazon because bolt don’t sell pins by themselves. Even on their website.

Works great
I actually used this for my Volkswagen, but used the key from my f-150. All of my bolt locks on my trailers are keyed to my f150, and bolt doesn’t make a lock for side-cut Volkswagen keys, so this made the most sense to me.

1/2" Pin is too short!
The Pin for the 1/2" Bolt is too short. I've tried contacting BOLT and their response was they don't make a longer 1/2" Pin. What's the point of having such a short pin?? Very disappointed.

Check pin length for comparability.
Had to return. Pin was too short.

Excellent! I've changed all of my locks to this type that use the car key. Great convenience for the trailer, boat, storage locker, yard fence... anything that can use a padlock!

Steel shaft is too short
I have three of the 5/8 bolt lock receiver locks and I love them. This 1/2 inch receiver lock works just like the other except the shaft is so short that this is useless for any hitch that I have. Not sure if they make a longer steel shift in half inch but if not then this is useless.
