Good and not so good
I love Canson's other sketch pads (the spiral bound with sturdy backs). I wanted to try this Canson XL 9X12 sketch pad for a change. I knew it wouldn't be the thickest paper, because it had 100 sheets and the other Canson pads I like only have 60 (great pads, by the way). This sketch pad opens at the top, but the problem is that there is just a thin layer of glue holding all 100 pages together. This means that as soon as you lift the cover and fold it back, the pad comes apart at the top (see photo). Very disappointing. I won't bother returning the pad. I can still use the paper, but will have to use it one sheet at a time.

Great pad for my purpose!
When I am studying, I like to organize and re-write my notes onto a nice clean, organized study sheets with color and black gel pens (G2 if it matters). I can't do this on normal printing paper because it's so thin that ink will just bleed through and printer paper is flimsy so it's not as nice to repeatedly look at or hold up to repetitive touching during review. At the same time, I don't want to use my nice, thick art paper or sketch pads for my notes because it seems like a waste and it would be super expensive. Enter the solution: this pad. It is only $10 for really big, thick (enough) pages to fill to my heart's content with gel-pen notes or make diagrams of Krebs cycle or organize families of viruses into trees. I don't have to feel guilty about using super high quality, expensive art materials while also having decent paper that works perfectly well for my purpose for it. Would I use this for my final art pieces? No. Would I use this for artwork that I would like to keep? Probably not. BUT, for doodles, rough sketches, and general practice, or if you are a beginner and churn out sketches quickly and burn through sketchbooks, this will work perfectly well and it is cheap!

Except for damage, good value for the money
If undamaged, I think this pad would be a good value for the money. The sketch pad arrived slightly creased. The cover was the worst, then the first 15 or so pages retained the crease memory. I'm a beginner, so it doesn't matter much to me. But if I was creating something I wanted to display, I would have shipped this pad back. It also had a crease across the corner off the last ten or so pages. It looks like this pad was the last one in the warehouse.

So easy to use.
I love Canson sketch pads, the paper takes to a pencil so nicely and the size is just amazing. I generally sketch on a smaller scale sit'sts nice to push my creative limits and explore this larger pad.

Good sketchbook
This is a good sized sketchbook. The paper is a bit thin but overall the sketchbook is nice
