Good electric lawnmower for the price, lightweight, multi-function, does the job well
Pros: - Easy assembly. Just had to connect shield to weed wacker, lock it in the base, and attach the trimmer/edger handle. - Light weight, can pick it up with one hand. - Compact, can fit into a corner. - Cut my lawn very well! I have a push mower but the grass was way too tall for it. I didn't want a gas mower, then I need gas, spark plugs, and do maintenance. I don't want any. And a gas mower is just one more thing to break down. - Did exceptionally well on my tall grass! Many sections were well over 6 inches. It took a couple times going over, but this little unit worked great and ever bogged down! I kept the wheels at the lowest setting the entire time. - I didn't find it loud at all. Just a typical weed wacker. Definitely not as loud as a gas lawn mower. - Wheels adjust from between 1-2 inches if you like your grass a little taller. - Handle telescopes out approximately 12 inches. If you are really tall this might not be adequate. - Briefly used the edger, the wheel was a big help, it did the job fine. Haven't tried the trimmer yet. - Great for a small to medium size yard, limited space for storage, people with arthritis, seniors, disabled, those who can't lift much weight, and want virtually maintenance free! Besides cleaning, you only need to replace the trimmer cord when it runs out. Cons: - Weed wacker locking mechanism into base is weak. Popped out a few times. Poor design. - Power cord came out of the loop in the handle numerous times. A spring loaded clamp would be much better. - Would be nice to have a grass discharge port in the side. - Sucks having to rake grass afterwards. Notes: I bought a warehouse return to save a little money. It was FILTHY! Previous owner did a bad job cleaning it. I've bought many warehouse items, but never had anything this dirty before. I did get a nice discount so I can't complain too much. Also didn't include owners manual. Maybe I can download a PDF from B&D? These are not product cons as none are B&D fault.

Weed Eater on Wheels
We live in the CA high desert, with a yard that's usually bare dirt. With the record rain this year, suddenly we had a "lawn". I had a basic weed eater, but the idea of using that to chop down a half acre of rye grass was daunting. After reading the mixed reviews here, I had my doubts, but crossed my fingers and ordered; and after one weekend I am impressed. Everything worked as advertised. The majority of the yard is sloped and bumpy. Despite this, the trimmer never dislodged from the wheeled base while in use. It tackled thick clumps of perennial rye grass up to 6 inches high with no problem. Using a vacuum cleaner motion worked best, as it sometimes takes a couple passes to get a clean cut. The sparser areas looked good after a single pass. I have never had an extension cord supplied with a yard tool, and here was no exception. All three of my 3-prong cords fit with no issue - a 2-prong cord is not required. It draws 6.5 amps, so a medium duty cord (14ga) is a wise choice for longer reach. It used trimmer line at a comparable rate to my Toro trimmer. B&D suggests using their pre-wound reels, but there are instructions for re-winding it yourself with standard round .065 trimmer line available anywhere. The wheeled base is high impact plastic, and seems durable. I have the wheels set at the higher setting (2.3 inches). No issues with it keeping that setting. The low setting is 1.5". Noise level is the same as any other electric line trimmer in my experience. The handle is adjustable; I'm 5'8" and it was comfortable to use ... and a lot easier than carrying the trimmer around. Bear in mind, it's a weed eater on wheels, not a 5hp mower. It's going to take longer. Read and follow the instructions, take your time, and use common sense. As for me, I say "Well done, Black & Decker."

Really good purchase
I looked at so many reviews of mowers for smaller yards and found this one to have the best reviews. I love this mower/weed wacker/edger. It’s lightweight. Easy to put together and easy to use. It’s like vacuuming your yard. I highly recommend this. I bought a bundle. I bought this, the blower, and a 3pk of the replacement string. The only thing I can say to the manufacturer to adjust is the clip that holds it in place needs to be a little stronger with the grip. Wish it didn’t pop out as easy as it does, A little more tension on that clip. And maybe where the string goes around and cuts the grass if there were 2 cutting not just one it might be an even faster cut with more force. But in all I’m really happy with this purchase.

Won’t lock into the base, but otherwise great
The media could not be loaded. That tiny tab is supposed to hold that big ol thing in place?? Well, it does not. So trying to maneuver this thing can be frustrating because it’s constantly slipping out from the base. If the area you’re using it on is flat with no obstructions then you shouldn’t have any issues. I have lots of trees and half my yard is kind of shaped like a bowl and I have fences separating my front/back/side/other side, so it got tricky. However, still gets 4 stars from me because it did just knock out 1/2 acre that was packed with weeds that were well above my knees, and some with stems as thick as my thumb. All that rain we got in CA has made some massive weeds. Worst I’ve seen after living here for 40 years. I was tempted to buy a full sized lawnmower, but this amount of rain/weeds is rare. I have another string trimmer that can’t cut through those thick ones, and also requires many breaks due to my back cramping up so much, so it just wasn’t going to cut it this time. So I was searching for a wheeled string trimmer and found this. This little mower saves my back and I can go until the heat from our desert sun makes me quit. What usually takes a week I got done in 3 days, working 3 hours a day, and that’s with 5x the weeds I usually have, and 10% of that time was spent fighting with extension cords. Overall very happy with this for the price and size of it.

Mean little machine.
I am so glad the negative ratings didn’t deter me from buying this lawnmower 3n1. It packs a great punch for its size. I lawned my backyard lawn and trimmed edges with one of its 3 features in 10 minutes. This is perfect for me it’s so light and easy to hose down after use. Yes the middle did get loose once while using but that because I had tall grass and it all accumulated underneath the blade cover, once you clean it out it stays in place.

SKIP this "mower" ... honestly, just avoid it.
Ok, the B+D BESTA seemed like a great idea for a ~250sqft small yard (compact and multi-functioned), HOWEVER, it's inherently flawed: 1) The retention system (clasp) for the trimmer to the "planner" is super cheap and completely under strength, meaning that the trimmer will disengage from the base with little or no effort ... it just doesn't hold. Secondly, the two trimming levels it provides are super short or super long ... 2) Next ... let's talk about rust ... wow does this rust ... for something made predominantly of plastic, the few steel components are ... well ... obviously not coated with anything ... no zink, no varnish, nothing but rust. Even a dry lawn will have some moisture. 3) Noise ... this is loud ... like you might as well buy a gas mower, because the neighbor's electric mower is virtually silent, while this thing can be heard two houses over. 4) Cleaning ... forget about it ... you just can't get into the crevices ... and lastly, it's just not sturdy. *coming from a Mechanical Engineer ... who was offered a job with B+D straight out of university ... shaking my head. I would return this in a heartbeat if it didn't sit in a box past the deadline ...

Does the job but a little dangerous.
If you are looking for a perfect lawn mowing machine, then this is a 2-star. But what you are actually buying is the trimmer and you are only adding $30-$40 for the base (to avoid buying an actual gas lawnmower). The trimmer is great and powerful. For a small lawn, and if you are not a hardcore grass trimmer, you just wanna get rid of tall grass and weeds, this is awesome and fast! I gave it 3-star because the trimmer does come off easily from the base, which can be VERY DANGEROUS! Feedback for Black and Decker! or I received a faulty one, as I noticed there is ONE SPRING for the lock, I am guessing it has 2. Please check y'all.

Works pretty well, but watch for it popping off the base!
Works pretty well, and it was very easy to put together. I like having the 3 in 1 feature, as it’s incredibly easy to switch from one to the other as you go. And, it’s lightweight. However, when cutting grass with the mower base, you have to empty the bottom for what gets stuck underneath every so often, because the weed cutter will pop out of the mower base, which is dangerous. I think the clip could have been designed better. But once I did start emptying it every once in a while (nothing too difficult, just lightly banged it on the grass a few times to dislodge the buildup every now and then), I had very few issues the next time I used it.

The power cord does not come with
The power cord does not come with it. I have never had an electric item that does not come with a power cord. It's an essential part without which you can not use it and it is not included. It does not indicate on the box or anywhere in the description that this is the case. Appalling. Last Black & Decker item I buy.
