soft mound design of the Comotomo bottles makes for an easy transition. Cleaning is also simple
Nipple confusion is a big worry for many parents. For breastfeeding moms who want some freedom from feeding every three to four hours or having to pump at work, the wide, soft mound design of the Comotomo bottles makes for an easy transition. Cleaning is also simple, thanks to the wide neck that accommodates a dish sponge and BPA-free material that makes the bottles dishwasher safe. Pros • Wide nipple mound for easy latching • Wide neck makes it easy to hand-wash • BPA- and phthalate-free, 100 percent medical-grade silicone is safe to boil, put in dishwasher or microwave Cons • Hard to read measurement markings • Tips over easily • Nipple color turns cloudy over time Bottom Line The soft, silicone material and wide, naturally shaped design of the Comotomo bottles helps prevent nipple confusion, making it easier to switch between bottle and breastfeeding. Features It’s common for breastfeeding moms to worry about whether baby is getting enough milk and gaining the recommended amount of weight, so finding a bottle that makes feeding simpler is key to easing anxiety. With my first son, I alternated between Philips Avent and Comotomo bottles and had no major problems. But when I tried introducing a Philips bottle to my daughter, Athena, when she was around 3 months old—to give myself a little freedom (she eats five times a day and still wakes up for a nightly feeding!)—she had a hard time latching on to the bottle’s smaller mound. So I tried the Comotomo bottle, and after taking a little time to get used to it, she was able to latch on and successfully release the milk. I think the Comotomo’s wide, soft mound and pliable nipple makes it easier for babies to transition from breast to bottle, since it more closely mimics a natural breast than most other bottles on the market. It also helps that the bottle is made of the same soft silicone material as the nipple, so her little hands can easily squeeze and hold onto it, just like she’s used to doing with my breast. At first, I was nervous that Athena might reject the breast if she started feeding from a bottle, but she’s been going back and forth pretty easily for about two months now with no issues. Still, as a precaution that my pediatrician recommended, I always angle her in more of a seated position for bottle-feeding so that the milk doesn’t come out too easily. I wouldn’t want her to start thinking that the breast is too much work by comparison. The Comotomo bottle comes with a slow-flow nipple for 0 to 3 months, but you can buy replacement nipples in slow, medium (3 to 6 months), fast (6+ months) and variable (6+ months) flow. The flow size isn’t labeled on the nipple itself, but the nipple hole changes depending on the size so once you open the package and start using them you’ll have to remember which is which—slow flow has one hole, medium has two holes, fast has three and variable has a Y-cut. Like the mound, the neck is also designed wider than other bottles, which makes it really easy to clean. No need to use a bottle brush—you can just reach in with a regular dish sponge. And since the bottles are free of BPA, phthalates and PVC, and made with medical-grade silicone, I can boil them and put them in the top rack of the dishwasher without worrying about them releasing any icky chemicals. Performance I have the green Comotomo bottles in both the 5- and 8-ounce sizes, and they’ve held up well, especially since I already used them with my son 18 months ago. The screw top is pretty leak proof, so you can toss it into a diaper bag and not worry about spills. I did have an issue with one of the tops on the bottle being screwed on so tightly that I couldn’t get it off (I blame my husband for that one!) and we had to throw it away. Otherwise, we’ve had no issues with the quality other than occasionally noticing a very subtle soap smell inside the bottle after washing. The Comotomo website says that may happen; they recommend sterilizing the bottles in boiling water for five minutes with a tiny bit of baking soda and then letting them air-dry (open side up) in a well-ventilated area. There are also anti-colic vents on the side of the nipple designed to help baby suck in less air, resulting in less gas, indigestion and spit-up. I can’t say I really noticed a difference when my son switched between bottle brands, but my daughter seems to have the same amount of burps and gas whether she breastfeeds or uses the Comotomo bottles, so I’m going to assume it works. One other thing I noticed is that over time the nipple changes from clear to cloudy with repeated washings. The good thing is it doesn’t affect the performance, but it just perpetually looks a little worse for the wear. Design The wide mound, rounded edges and lime green color on the screw top make this bottle nice to look at, and the silicone material makes it easy for baby to grip and hold onto. Since the silicone material is a bit opaque, I’ve found that the measurement markings on the bottle are hard to read (especially during nighttime feedings). To see how much Athena has consumed or whether she’s finished the bottle, I have to take it from her and hold it up for a closer look. Also, the soft material makes the bottle a little unstable when standing upright, as I learned the hard way when I accidentally knocked it over before screwing on the top, resulting in some spilled breast milk.

Amazing bottles
I have absolutely zero complaints about these bottles. I did a ton of research on bottles when I had my firstborn and decided on these. I have no regrets. They are dishwasher, boil, and microwave safe. The anticolic vents work well and ythe bottle itself is flexible silicone so if the vents are blocked the bottle decompresses to prevent negative pressure build up associated with bellyaches. The nipple shape is highly recommended for all babies and mimics the actual breast for babies that nurse as well. Additionally, there are all kids of accessories you can buy to use your bottles even longer (I.e. flat covers in place of for snack storage, nipple flow varieties of slow, medium, and fast, sippy cup nipples, and straws). I’ve used the same set for two babies, and they still look brand new.

Best bottles
These are hands down my favorite bottles! Our daughter loves them the best. They're the perfect size and shape and I love the soft silicone. They're easy to assemble/disassemble and clean. I wash them by hand and then put them into the sterilizer. They get used multiple times a day and have had consistent use for the last 6 weeks. They look and work as great as the day I got them. I don't have any problems with leaking at all, which is a huge plus. I also don't notice excess air.

The only bottle my breastfed baby would take
I was used to the bottles with the vents as those were the only ones my other littles would take but this was our lucky one! Didn’t notice any increase in gas or anything without the vents ????

Comotomo vs. Breastflow vs. MAM vs. Adiri vs. Lansinoh vs. Munchkin
Okay so yes within the past few weeks we purchased all of these to try with our two-month-old breastfed baby. Short version: every baby is different and Lansinoh won for ours. But here's some additional comparison points on all of these to help others decide and maybe avoid buying so many :) Background: our baby is now 2-months old, but we started trying bottles around 6 weeks. I stay home, so the goal for us is just occasional bottle feeding so I can have a little time away. Munchkin Latch: this is the bottle system we used with our now 2-year-old and he adapted to it well from around 6-weeks old. It's easy to clean, interchangeable with sippy cup parts, and has an adapter for direct pumping. Problem is our new baby just cried whenever we tried putting this bottle in his mouth, so we started looking at other bottles... Comotomo: super easy to clean with just your hands, looks awesome, feels nice and soft. Our baby was able to latch on to the large nipple surface, however, the nipple itself is very long and he seemed to be struggling with this. He drank from it the first time we tried, but wasn't HAPPY and was squirming and joking a bit. The nipple is also very slippery, unlike some of the others with a matte finish, and the super wide bottle makes it difficult to fit most bottle warmers (didn't fit our boon orb or Intel-a-temp). Lastly, no breast pump attachments. MAM: this nipple looks completely different from comotomo so I thought it'd be worth a try. Our baby wouldn't even drink from this one unfortunately- he just cried and made a face like "what's this foreign object in my mouth" :( Also, I didn't like the complexity of the bottle - there's a bottom cap, a bottom rubbery insert valve, and then the nipple, nipple ring and cap. And the bottle just looks unattractive in my opinion compared to competitors - not that it would've mattered if he liked this one :) Breastflow: our baby drank an entire 3oz the first time we used this, WITH a smile, and fell asleep after. I thought this would be the one! But the next two days he refused in and just chewed on the stiff inner nipple. The outer nipple on this one is very thin and fully collapsed when he drank from it. And milk gets stuck between the two nipple prices and you have to squeeze it just right to get it to go back down into the bottle where your baby can drink it or you can save it. (A feature that's a little complicated to show a baby sitter, etc) Honestly the double nipple seems to be a waste because it only slows the flow for your baby's FIRST suck - after that, milk goes into the outer nipple and comes out just as easily as any other bottle. The idea is to simulate the natural let-down of breast milk, but it only added a 1 second delay. Adiri: so we never got to use this one because our baby loved Lansinoh. But I did provide a picture of the nipple and wanted to mention that the nipple had a wonderful soft, matte finish that seems would be easier for baby to latch too. It also looks the coolest of all the bottles. Downside it had a lot of parts to keep track of and clean. Lansinoh **THE WINNER**: our baby instantly latched with this bottle and it just felt "right". He's drank from this easily with mom, when sleepy and fussy, with dad, etc - some of our key test times, and it past. The bottle design is wonderfully simple and the nipple has a very nice feel - it's very thick, but soft and partially matte finished. I love that I can direct pump with the very affordable Lansinoh manual pump (comes with a free bottle too), and the design is super simple and easy to clean. The air vent for this one is in the nipple, just like Comotomo, which is great because there's no worries about leaks from a bottom plug, etc. But my ONLY complaint is 1) the air valve can sometimes make a loud noise which I worry will startle the baby (so far he hasn't seems to notice it) and 2) it only comes in purple.

Great Bottle
This is the only bottle so far that my baby would take from transitioning from breastfeeding to the bottle. The feel of the bottle is so soft and soothing to the touch.

Amazing!
I’ve breastfeeding my son for 6 months (pretty much exclusively) and he had been refusing to take 4 other bottle brands so I ordered this one out of desperation. I’m so, so glad I did!! He took it on the first try (and from me) and has been taking it every day since! He seems to prefer the nipple and the overall shape and the ability to squeeze it gently has helped massively with encouraging him to take the milk in the bottle because he can taste it. The nipple has 2 holes and so more closely replicates the breast. I would highly recommend it to other parents struggling to get their babies to take a bottle after being breastfed for a while. The only slight downside is the price, but it’s so worth it!

A great bottle
I bought the as my baby would not take the bottles I had used with my son; however, although my baby now takes those this bottle has been great as a bedtime bottle. The feel of it is a lot more similar to that of a breast and my baby does not seem to be able to gulp the milk like she can with other makes. Prior to this she was giving herself belly ache by gulping her milk, but by using this bottle before bedtime she is unable to do this. The groove for additional grip on the teat rim is great to allow you to get it on and off easier as the base is not firm. The base is also a lot easier to get formula into because it is so wide, compared to some other makes and really easy to clean.

Heaven sent bottle!
Wow! After filling up a cupboard with different kinds of bottles, in an effort to get my exclusively breastfed baby to start taking milk from a bottle, this bottle has been godsend. Yes the price might be a bit steep, but it's worth it. Because of its boob like feel, my daughter started accepting milk from this bottle and now I've got my life back! I can even leave her for a few hours and get my hair done or just make that supermarket trip alone (oh the luxury of it)!????. All I can say is that this bottle has changed my life. I am only now breastfeeding at night and during the day just once to twice. My daughter is now 8 months and having solids but can drink well from this bottle!

Amazing!
At first I was sceptical spending £20 on a milk bottle, but after having tried 5 different bottles, 4 different formulas, I thought I’d spend anything to get my 5 month old to drink from a bottle. My baby is EBF and I wanted to start weaning him off so by around 6-7 months I wouldn’t be breastfeeding anymore. I’d previously expressed every so often into a bottle and he would take it no problem! But since I started weaning him and not offering him my milk a few times a day, he started refusing all formula and all bottles. Then I ordered this one! I thought I’d express for the first time when he would drink from the bottle and he took all 4oz, previously he would only take 1 oz then spit it out!’ But he took all 4oz!! Then I thought I’d try formula in the afternoon and see if it made a difference and he guzzled all 4oz again!!! In fact he still wanted more so I offered my milk! Wish I had bought this bottle from the beginning!
