Don't leave home without these on your trailer axle

Definitely worthwhile, saves your trailer bearings from failing indefinitely (if maintained properly). Think about losing a trailer tire at 55mph and the damage that would cause to your boat and the liability to other drivers. I bought replacement this after scraping a rock landscaping wall in our driveway and tearing the bearing buddy out of the hub. I damaged slightly the wheel but the new buddy bearing tapped into position without too much trouble. Don't forget to check the bearing grease occasionally and re-lube as necessary.

Clever idea--if not for the cheap components

I installed these on brand new hubs just prior to towing a small boat from Iowa to Oregon. As I crossed Wyoming, I saw in my rear view mirror that there was some wobble in the left bearing buddy. I watched it from time to time with the intent of pulling off at the next rest area to check it--and then I actually saw the cover fly off. Oh well, I wasn't worried about a rubber cover so much, but when I stopped to check it out, there was grease all over the wheel. I can't say for sure what went wrong, but when I took the bearing buddy off (not an easy task) the inside spring retailer clip was twisted out of shape and looked like it had been stamped out of a tin can end--very flimsy and cheap looking. I like the idea of the bearing buddy, but if you need to check your bearings you're out of luck because these are a PITA to remove once hammered in place. They need to design a threaded ring that hammers into the hub so that the bearing buddy main body can then be unscrewed or unclipped to access the bearings. If I decide to get another set it will be the generic brand since the quality of the materials can't possibly be worse than this junk.

Very happy with transaction

I am very happy with this purchase. Items came fast and in good condition. These bearing covers are "interference" fit, in other words they are larger in diameter than the opening they go in. You have to carefully install them, but if you read the instructions and have patience it should not be a problem. Hopefully I will be able to extend the life of the bearings on my boat trailer by using the bearing buddies and will keep them well lubricated.

Perfect Fit.

A perfect fit and easy to fill with grease. The hub still seems to be purging air; I can still add grease after every trip, but have towed only about 50 miles since installation. I purchased a Lincoln 1142 grease gun at the same time and filled it with calcium sulfonate grease specifically for the boat trailer bearings. Time will tell if these save my bearings from water contamination.

Glad I Bought The Name Brand

These worked perfectly. Fit like a glove, and I was able to easily add grease with the grease gun I bought. The only difficult part was tapping it in with a hammer and a block of wood, but that wasn't too bad. Now I am hoping that they help me easily maintain the bearings for the life of my trailer!

The set of Bearing Buddies with cover were installed in the wheels of my boat trailer. They fit perfectly and performed for approx 500 miles so far. In addition the rubber covers that came with the bearing buddies were also a great bonus. Needless to say i'm very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend them. John Harvey
