This reel is made of thick and sturdy plastic, much better quality than another reel I bought for almost double the price. But as other have mentioned, there are bits of untrimmed plastic left over from the injection molding process which needs to be trimmed off in order for it to turn smoothly. If you don't mind spending a few minutes trimming it off with an sharp knife, it's a bargain. If that's beyond your capabilities, avoid this product, as it will not rotate smoothly at all. There's only one small hole for threading in the end of the extension cord. It would have been easy for them to put more. I wish they had at least put it on the side away from the handle, so the end of the cord doesnt keep bumping the hand that's turning it, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

A Very Handy Item For A Great Price!
Don’t waste a ridiculous amount of time trying to wrap your extension cords using the old-fashioned “arm sling” method. If you’re used to cursing, de-knotting, and moaning about how inflexible and annoying your extension cords and ex-wives are, you need one of these. Hands down, these can’t be beat. They’re decent quality - I accidentally dropped one with the cord on the reel from about 4-5 feet. Surprisingly, no damage to the reel. If you’re looking for industrial strength, move on. If you’re looking for something that is easy to use, keeps your cords tidy, and won’t break the bank - you’re in the right place!

Functional
Used this cord reel on 12 awg 100ft extension cord. It all fit in there. Others have mentioned some rough bits that catch on the moving handle area. A slight amount of wear and they stopped being an issue. So there are some slight finish qualms, but it's a fully functional reel at a good price.

Handy Reel, Mfg could improve Quality Control.
I received two of these recently. I needed to use a razor knife to cut off some sharp protruding plastic on the handles and sand the track the black inner handle uses to spin around on. Now they spin smoothly rather than get hung up annoyingly.

Poor Design and Poor Manufacturing
Despite the fact that this cord reel is poorly designed and manufactured, following the theme that you get what you pay for, it actually a pretty good value at this price point. If I was going to use this cord reel often, I'd opt for one of better quality and happily pay a higher price. But the two cord reels I purchased will only be used a few times a year, so they are acceptable. It's poorly designed because the holes where the end of the extension cord extends are on the same side as the handle used to rotate the reel... so you end up banging your hand with the extended cord end on each rotation. Had they placed the handle on the opposite side, no such issue would exist. Just not thought out very well. Rather silly, actually. As other reviewers have mentioned, there are several burrs left over in the channel where the reel rotates from the plastic molding process. As a result, the reel binds several times with each revolution. The manufacturer simply didn't extend the effort to make the channel smooth. I took a Dremel motor tool, smoothed them over with a grinding bit and applied a bit of WD-40. It rotates OK now. I purchased two and each had burrs in the exact same location, so this isn't a one off problem; it's just the way they're made. If you're not willing to finish the job the manufacturer should have completed, then a different reel would probably be your best bet -- it's quite irritating to use, constantly binding, with each revolution until it's fixed.

Works but sub par quality
It is a good deal for the function, but quality is sub par, there was flash from injection molding preventing it from spinning freely. Took me a bit of time to find out and fix

I have used several over the years and needed another one. This one works well but I had to trim some molding flash plastic to make it operate smoothly... a minor annoyance but should not be missed in quality control.

Pretty OK
Nothing special about this product. It holds my 50' 12/3 extension cord well. It might hold 75' if you try. There was a some plastic bits that impede's the handle spinning which I had to remove.

Hey, Amazon, why should I bother reviewing anything if my review will vanish ??? !!!!! The page for this product claims 742 reviews, of which 17% are 4-star. In other words, there should be 126 such reviews. But when I click on the "4-star reviews" link, only one comment appears -- my comment is complete gone. Why should I bother submitting a review when it will just be dropped? My previous review: The 11-inch diameter is much larger than most other reels. I got this one specifically so the cord would not be wound too tightly. The capacity is reasonable: I can almost get 100 feet of 16/3 external cord on the reel; only 2 or 3 winds spill off. Maybe 80 feet would be more comfortable. The thing works well: it winds smoothly, and the knob speeds up the winding. And as others have noted, this device is so simple that very little is likely to go wrong. While it's not the toughest, it should last a while. The only downside is that there is no mechanism to keep the plug from spinning as you unwind. To actually use your cord, you have to unwind the length you need first, and then you can plug it in. Oh well, I guess we can't have everything.

Flimsy, but works well
Flimsy design, but works well. Make sure the bolt for the knob is tight before using. Mine came off in the first few seconds of use.

Needs a cart or attachments to hold on floor or to a wall
Like the speed at which it came (Prime); and the price-quality ratio; and the fact it holds a 100ft extension, no problem. But now, I have to look for a caddy or something to roll it around the yard or hang it on a garage wall :-( A bit my fault because I couldn't think this came with no support, no caddy or cart to carry the wiring around the yard
