Second unit shipped was great.
After a bad start, I'm quite satisfied with the unit. First the bad start -- I received the box from Amazon, and the ground pin on the male unit was a bit wobbly. I straightened it out plugged it in, and it seemed to work fine. But based on earlier reviews, which said that there were problems with the ground pin, I did a test on the output before climbing up to put in on the 11' ceiling. The tester showed that the ground was not connected. I called Amazon to return, they said they'd ship a return label, and nicely, said they'd send the replacement immediately. Got both, sent back the first one, and that was it. A very nice process with little delay, kudos to Amazon. Now, the 2nd unit -- This is a nice system given the 12 gauge wire, allowing the 15 amp use on heavier loads. It seems well made, but I have not pulled all the wire out, so it waits to be seen if it all retracts smoothly -- but so far so good. It has a removable handle if you want to carry it around, but this seems a rather expensive use for a nearly $100 unit -- probably better to just get a good 12 gauge extension cord and put in on a $10 reel. But for hookup to the ceiling in a shop with the retractable cord that locks in place very smoothly, it's great. I may get another for the other side of the shop. I do share a concern with another reviewer about the breaker being on the plug, which means in my case if it pops I'll need to get the ladder and climb up to the ceiling to reset, but insufficient experience with that to date..

Good cord reel for the money
I've had this mounted on the ceiling of my garage for a little over 4 years. It's really convenient compared to a normal extension cord and I use it regularly. My only complaint is the "stop" feature doesn't always work well. When I'm pulling it out to use it, I'd like it to unwind and not try to retract. Unfortunately the way the "retract stop" feature is designed, you have to kind of jerk the cord a little to engage it. it's really frustrating when you're trying to get the full length of the cord out and jerking on the MFer and it won't stay put. Otherwise, I'm very happy with it.

An important item for safety
On many reels I've seen good and bad reviews. As a retired body man of 41 years, I've used a lot electric reels and every one lasted years. Some of the reviews are concerned with reeling in the cord and problems. It's more of a nuisance than anything else. You just have to manually align the cord when it reels to make sure it does not bind. I have, for instance, a miter saw that pulls 15 amps. I could get by with a 12 amp cord, but if I (or you) use an electric tool heavily, it's possible to start a fire, or damage the motor of the tool you're using over time. I do recommend this reel.

Weak Spring and disappointed long term durability
I purchased this Bayco SL-8904-40 cord real on March 27, 2015. I installed it on the ceiling in my garage where it has been used only occasionally. It was never released and allowed to roll up violently. This would not really have been possible anyway. The spring has not been very strong from day one. I had to be very careful and guide the cord to make sure it would roll all the way up. If it was cold and the cord a bit stiff, it would not roll up at all. Today I pulled it out to vacuum the car. When I went to roll it up, it popped and would not roll up. I disassembled it and found that the plastic real had shattered where the spring attached. It was not repairable and clearly out of warranty. I will not be purchasing this model or brand as it's replacement.

Useless retraction device, great quality cord...
The cord itself is great, the retraction device is HORRIBLE. There is no guide to follow the cord as its put into the device. I haven't been able to get the entire length of cord back into the housing since I pulled it all out after hanging it on the wall - 12' up.

I have used this for over 2 years without any problems.
Other people have stated that the cord would not rewind and as long as you make sure that you guide the cord back and forth while retracting it works fine.

Does what it should
Pretty good so far. We installed 3 in our shop. Gotta fiddle a bit with it to make it roll back in but otherwise great product

"NOT FOR HARD USE"
The owners manual says "General Use Cord Reel Only. Not for Hard Use". That kind of put me off since the Amazon description says, "Bayco provides high quality, rugged designs that stand up to the rigors of professional use". Having said that, my purpose will be light use. The cord reel seems to be working well so far.

It is well constructed easy to mount and with the thumb screws easy to remove from bracket to use elsewhere.It unrolls easily and locks every few feet making it easy to adjust the length.
