SINGER Needle Threader Assistant is just this and automatic needle threader with a simple one-push action button for quick and easy needle threading. It has a built-in thread cutter which is awesome and also has a view alignment window. You cand use different size hand needles of various sizes. There is a small storage compartment and a magnetic base helps keep hand sewing needles organized.

I only have a small gripe. The magnet *could* be stronger, but it works in finding lost needles or holding them until I am ready to use the needle again. Regardless, this product works great. I love that it has a switch for large and small eyes in the needles. I love that it can hold the needles in the twist off bottom; I love that I can leave thread on the needle and still store it in the bottom (I just leave the thread hanging out, and when I need the needle again, I twist off the bottom and pull the tread that has the needle instead of dumping out all of the needles.) The threader works great, even though I've been a little rough with it. :) Sometimes the threader misses the needle eye, but that is because I have used the wrong size eye for the number of threads (I tried getting three threads in a small eye..... that didn't work so well. But changing up the needle worked). The small thread cutter (razor) is easy to use and tucked in for safety.

Useless

I bought this thing because I just had cataract surgery, which means I can see better to sew, but I can't thread a needle. I use size 8-10 embroidery needles, and this thing not only doesn't thread the needle, but it shreds the thread. I'm not going through the bother of returning it -- it's going in the garbage. I'm still looking for a needle threader, though, if anybody can help me...

Not the greatest.

I agree with other postings re: taking the needle out. Go super slow so thread does not come out while you are pulling it up. Can’t do it with two strands of thread. If the needle is too thin the poke thru goes to the side. The more you try it kind of shreds the thread and it falls apart. Not the wonderous thing I was hoping for.

Good for some uses

I bought this to use with embroidery floss. I don’t know if it’s the needle I’m using or the thread but it seems to have a very hard time threading the needle. I end up hand threading the needles now because it’s less frustrating. I think this would be better for single threads and needles with bigger eyes. Not great for all uses.

Fiddly but getting there.

This device does work, but it takes a little effort to get it to work We've worked out that you have to GRAB THE LOOP, and not the end of the thread. This doesn't magically thread, but it starts it for you, so 4 stars all-round. IT HELPS, and has nice features. The magnetic base is brilliant when you accidentally drop your needle. The thread cutter does work, and is a good flat cut. Don't worry, I do actually recommend this. Sort of threads. Cuts your thread. Picks up dropped needles. Great gift for an older sewer who eyes ain't what they were! If you can get elsewhere cheaper, even better, bit it does assist

It does not work every time. You have to be patient and try several time before having some success.
