Good enough for cold days that aren't windy

Sizing: Upper end of children's sizing. Thickness: Think of a thick compression shirt, and that's about the thickness of this gaiter. Warmth: It's fine for just about any typical winter day, as long as it's not windy. (This gaiter doesn't stop high wind very well) Bottom line: This is a good gaiter for cold days that aren't very windy. 4 stars

Not sure it’s for the most extreme weather - but my little one loves it!

Overall, I think this is a win. If you have a little one - particularly of the energetic sort (but really, are there non-energetic sorts??) then you know keeping winter attire on them, especially scarves, can be a bit of a chore. A normal scarf just won’t stay on ask they’re running around the playground or backyard with the sort of abandon that only a 5 year old can muster. But they still have to stay warm…so what do you do? This neck guard is a really nice solution. Since it’s a complete ring, it can’t accidentally fall off even in the most active play so it will still be keeping your little one’s neck nice and warm. It’s stretchy, so it can be pulled up over their chin too if need by to give more coverage and it’s pretty easy to to get on and off (easier than a balaclava on a squirming child). The color is good and the material is both soft and durable. And my son loves it - and loves to wear it, which I can’t say about a scarf, so that’s a huge win. So why only four stars then? At the end of the day, you buy these for warmth - and while this will help (and especially will help because it stays on), it’s just not that thick so I don’t think it will really help ALL that much in the middle of the winter (though, if they’re out running, they’re generating their own heat, I suppose). It’s more the thickness of a base layer, so perhaps layering will help. Anyhow, if you know that going in - that it’s the thickness of a base layer and that level of warmth - then this could well be a good purchase and just what you’re looking for. With that caveat, I can still definitely recommend it!

Too Lightweight?

Got this for my 5 yr. old for a ski trip. He wasn't keen to wear it, so we didn't get to give it a full try. However, it seemed super lightweight...perhaps too lightweight to keep you warm. It may have helped a little to cut the harshness of the wind, but didn't seem cozy at all. Material was soft though.

Good alternative to a scarf

Whenever my kids put on a scarf to go out and play in the snow, it ends up on the ground, and I'll probably find it in the spring. They are usually bulky, itchy, and don't stay on. This neck guard is a great alternative. It is silky and thin, so it does not add much warmth but shields it from the wind. My eight-year-old keeps it in her backpack to use at recess on cold days, but it doesn't add any weight or bulk to her pack. She can also pull it over her mouth to warm her face. She loves it.

Thin but fine for most ski days

This neck gaiter is very thin and stretchy and feels smooth. It is 90% polyester and 10% spandex. It helps cut the wind when skiing but is thinner and not particularly warm so isn't great for the coldest days. It does help cut the wind though so is fine for most days and is much better than nothing. From experience, the thicker gaiters tend to hold more moisture and fog up goggles more and this one won't have those issues very much, but at the trade-off of not being as warm. If you want something warmer look for something with merino wool like Smartwool which will likely cost a little more. It is stretchy and breathes so can be pulled over the nose and mouth or just kept around the neck. The size works for children (looser) and most adults. Unstretched it is about 12.5" high and 18" circumference. Color is Fuscia. Made in China.

Very thin material, not so warm

I ordered this product based on the product page claim "Rigorously tested in extreme winter weather". The neck guard is made of a stretchy, very thin material. It fit around my kid's head (8 years old), but wouldn't stay up on his neck. I would not recommend this for cold weather gear. I saw other reviewers mentioned using this item for sports or other recreational activities; perhaps it is better suited for those needs.

a little big

This neck guard was intended for my son to use during winter to keep his neck and face warm when we play outside, but it was a lot bigger than we had expected an it ended up fitting my husband perfectly. He doesn't like to use scarfs or anything that feels cumbersome or restricting. The material is very thin and it keeps both his neck and face warm enough to be outside for long periods of time during winter. The martial is smooth and it washes well without shrinking, but I wouldn't recommend this for young kids or toddlers.
