Still strong after 2 years...
I purchased two of these 2+ years ago. They're outdoors and used a few times a week. Both are still in use, working well and looking good. I'd definitely recommend these. I have been pleased with the quality. That said, last week, one of them was knocked over and the handle broke off, which is understandable with two years of weathering and rough treatment. I've emailed AMES customer service to see if a replacement part is available, since the rest of the cabinet and reel are still working great. It's disappointing when one can't get replacement parts for something this costly and well made. Hopefully, I can get this back in working order shortly.

Ok quality
This is difficult to adjust, swing out. But sturdy. The paint job could be better and it should be sealed with a HEAVY anti-rust coating and it's not. Especially for the price.

Why why why didn't I buy this sooner?!?!
I bought this a week ago, so longevity will not be rated but hey... it all metal construction and the build quality is so nice I can't imagine having issues. After unboxing the product I immediately could tell it had a great build quality. It felt pretty hefty with its metal construction and solid. The winding action was pre-greased so it worked nicely, its on a nice cable system, not the cheap plastic gears other companies use. The whole connection system is also metal. It stored my 150' hose with zero issues. Feet are solid, winding handle is solid, all hardware is solid. It was satisfying seeing all the money I spent actually be used for high quality parts, it felt more and more worth spending the money as I put it all together. I mean most people do not want to spend this much on a hose reel but now I know it was a smart decision and I can go pitch all my plastic hose reels out to never be seen again by the light of day! My true test, when I turned on the hose full blown.... not a single drop anywhere. No leaks on my patio, nothing. It was amazing. Then I reeled in the entire 150' with much less effort than my old plastic hose reel plus it didn't make any sound let alone the annoying screeching sound my old plastic hose reel made. What was I doing all these years spending $60-$80 on a nice plastic hose reel every 2-4 years... I balked at this price but for about $20 extra, this thing will last and eliminate my need to keep replacing the cheap plastic ones. I liked it so much I already ordered a second to replace my front yard hose reel too.

totally worth the money
Pros: This heavy weight garden hose holder surprised me when it arrived. It was heavier than I expected. The one I have out front, which is completely plastic, frequently gets the hose tangled, moves when you reel in the hose, doesn't have any handles, and you have to step on it to hold it down, so I was skeptical at first. I opened the box and found no instructions. Uh oh, I thought... But after a minute I figured out all the moving parts (the side where the garden hose attaches to the outside was the hardest to figure out - there's a lever, on the bottom, that you push down. Once you do that, the hole opens up, you stick the metal thingy inside and lock the lever. Makes no sense right now, but if you have it, it will). It has legs to stand on, so that was a nice feature. The top opens up, that was a nice feature (but to be honest, so do most of them). All in all, it was a super nice garden hose holder. Especially since one of my biggest pet peeves is dealing with wrapping the garden hose. Thank you, no. Time to wind up the garden hose. I fully expected to have to push the handle thingy back and forth to keep the hose from rolling up in the same spot. So I proceeded to try this action. What surprised me the most was that the feeder was threaded. I didn't have to feed the hose. It automatically moves the hose back and forth for ease of, and perfect layers. I would totally purchase this item again, and in fact, may replace the front hose housing with this one.

I did not know such a perfect reel existed.
I have outdoor faucets on two sides of my house. One you can see walking by, the other you cannot. I bought a $32 bulky plastic hose reel from a local hardware store for the side you can't see, but wanted something more attractive for the side you can. This is sleek and modern, and with a large pot on top of it, looks like decor. Looks aside, I'm tempted to sell the plastic one and buy another of these for the side you can't see. The hole that the hose comes through on the Ames slides back and forth, automatically laying the hose in an even coil. It's so smooth, I can wind and unwind it so fast I'd get rug burn if I held onto it to guide it-- good thing you don't need to do that! The bulky plastic one is adequate, and if I hadn't experienced the Ames, I would think it was fine. But if you're trying to pull the hose out and it's not at the perfect angle, it tips over. You have to stand on it with one foot while reeling it in, and you definitely need to guide it with your hand to but have it be a tangled mess. I find myself stretching the Ames hose 3/4 of the way around the house, just so I don't have to deal with the other! ????

Sturdy and Smooth
This garden hose cabinet is exactly what I needed to hide my hose in plain sight yet still reel it out and wind it in easily. Coils a 100 foot 3/4" heavy duty hose easily. Not cheap but should last a couple decades or more compared to just 15 years with my old plastic box from a big box store. Maintain the seals every few years and maybe it'll last even longer. Very pleased.

Solid and Nice Looking Hose Cabinet
We renovated our patio and wanted hose storage that would look good. Looking around, most cabinets seemed to be pretty unattractive. This cabinet most certainly looks great and, because it is metal, moves very little when unwinding the hose. My only complaint is that the hose can get really twisted on the reel; having said that, it could be because our garden hose is about 100' long or because it is in a bit of an awkward spot. We had no issues with leaking and despite being out in all weather it looks as good as new.

Great product, clarification on its colour
The item is attractive and inconspicuous on our front porch (where some idiot decided to install the water outlet instead of on the side of the house). The cabinet is DARK BROWN, NOT BLACK. The cabinet has an all-metal exterior that makes it very sturdy; it doesn't move when reeling the hose in and out. The reel mechanism is smooth and easy, and the hose guide really works to keep the hose from bunching up on the reel. I am pleased with my purchase.

very solid, doesn't leak
Solid built, works great. bought one a few years ago., now replaced a cheaper model with the AMES model, definately would recommend. Only downside, it is fairly expensive, almost double of the cheap brands, but if it lasts a long time, and saves the time exchanging it, its worth it

Super easy
Hose winds up easily from any direction. A little pricy but worth it. I had one previously for many years it seized up.
