Well Done, Airfix...!
Airfix were one of the premier model companies of the 1960's; I remember looking at all their releases as a wide eyed young model enthusiast in the late 1960's and working my way through their kits of famous WW2 bombers. The company is enjoying a revival, it seems, with their recent releases; especially the model kits of the famed Avro Lancaster. The Lancaster kits can be supplemented with this additional kit of various RAF equipment and vehicles that assisted in getting the aircraft ready for their next mission. This kit contains the following vehicles and equipment: 1 x Standard Light Utility Vehicle 1 x Bedford Truck-the truck can be configured either as a fuel tanker, or a pick up bed vehicle 1 x Maintenance tower-this can be attached to the Bedford as a 'towed' item, or positioned on its legs 1 x David Brown Tractor/Tug 1 x Type F Bomb Trolley-for transporting the 8000 lb bomb 2 x Type C Bomb Trollies-for transporting the 1000 and 500 lb Medium Capacity (MC) Bombs 1 x 500 cc Motor Cycle 1 x Bicycle 1 x 450 gallon Trailer bowser Also included are a number of 500 and 1000 lb MC bombs, an 8000 lb bomb, jerry cans, wheel chocks a ladder and a tool box. The detail on the parts is very well done, with minimum 'flash' to clean off; additional detail in engines, transmissions and tyre tread is evident, plus the fuel tanker/bowsers can be displayed with their access doors open, or closed. Detailed painting guides are included for the kit, and a decal sheet with the correct markings for vehicles and colour markings for the bombs completes a very well presented kit. Anyone considering adding something to their Airfix RAF Bombers should look into this kit. Amazon were able to get this kit to me quickly with no fuss at all. It is great to see Airfix kits coming back into the market with greater detail and accuracy. Well done, Airfix!

A Mixed Review...
Everyone who purchased one of the reasonably new Airfix Lancaster model kits were thrilled with the level of detail & options provided; With one small caveat. If you wanted to display it's massive, tremendously detailed, bomb bay loaded up you had to buy this kit as well. A lot of modelers were unhappy with that; Myself included. Still I decided to finally bite the bullet & purchase the kit so I could display my Lanc with it's belly wide open on a mirrored platform with the fuel bowser, bomb cart tractor & bomb trolleys. It shipped very fast & now I have it here in front of me. The kit includes: A highly detailed Bedford truck you can build either as a canvas top MWD or a tanker truck MWC, a "Tilly" (Standard Light Utility Vehicle) with a canvas top, an attempt at an injection molded bicycle which lacks spokes or peddles (if you really want a bicycle for display in this scale you would be far better off sourcing the fine photo-etched kit offered by Brengun which includes 2 though it costs around half the price of this set in it's entirety,) a pretty fine representation of a motorcycle though I'm uncertain of the make or model, a fuel drum, a few jerry cans, a tool box, some wheel chocks, a ladder, a very fine looking scaffold for aircraft maintenance displays, a large fuel bowser, a David Brown VIG 1 Tow Tractor & 3 bomb cart trolleys. The main attraction of the kit is of course the ordinance for loading up our bombers. It includes 6 x SBCs (Small Bomb Containers) loaded with Incendiaries, 6 x 500 Lb Bombs, 6 x 1000 Lb Bombs, a 4000 Lb "Blockbuster" & an 8,000 Lb "Blockbuster." All are very nicely detailed just as we've come to expect from the newer Airfix product lines. The details for the SBCs are very nice & the bombs aren't just the shapeless blobs we've seen in decades past. In regards to the bomb cart trolleys one of the three is intended exclusively to carry one of the two Blockbusters. The only disappointment in bomb load options is that they didn't include a 10,000 Lb "Tallboy" or 22,000 Lb "Grand Slam." Maybe Airfix will release a couple of conversion kits with these options? Who knows. It seems like a fairly glowing review thus far but you'll note that this review stops at two stars & there are two reasons for this. We can't ignore the elephant in the room that Airfix chose to separate the bomb load from the kit it was intended for. Then they added a few bits & bobs so they could justify selling it at the same price as their new release 1/72 scale Fairey Swordfish. I'm not saying it isn't worth the price for what you receive. However relatively few aircraft builders are interested in adding support vehicles to their displays unless they're doing a diorama. This is especially true for builders of aircraft that do wheels up builds & might want to show the bomb load as it might've appeared over it's target. The second issue is with the supplier of the kit; The kit arrived in a unpadded, non-supportive, plastic sleeve. Now any modeler online knows not to ship model kits this way. All online hobby shops know this too; But Amazon isn't a hobby shop. It's a big box retailer. (The irony that they didn't use a box hasn't escaped my notice.) I've had several kits delivered to me this way from Amazon that largely escaped damage or suffered only minor compression to the box. This one though makes it obvious that something quite heavy was placed on it at some point. I can still use the ordinance but the bomb trolleys, the anemic bicycle & the very fine scaffolding were right at the top of the sprues inside & so suffered the brunt of the compression. Shipping it back isn't worth the price. What's more is that I'm over an hour away from one of Amazon's box free/label free drop off locations & that's provided that the road conditions are ideal. In summary the kit isn't all bad in fact I would say it's a good kit. Airfix definitely did their homework before production. Still they would've been far better off including the optional bomb loads with their bomber & offering all those extras as a separate kit at about half the price. However if you plan to buy the kit go directly to a hobby shop or at least purchase from a hobby shop online that will take proper precautions when shipping it.

Perfect for dioramas
If you're planning a bomber diorama then this is the kit that you need. In fact you could easily use two of them as it only includes one maintenance stand and most photos show two per engine. Moulding quality is great and a big improvement over the previous airfield kits. This is loads cheaper than the alternative photo-etched, white metal or resin kits and will look just as good. All we need now is a better selection of figures doing typical maintenance tasks.

Goes great with Airfixes Lancaster 1/72 A08001.
Next in line to build after the Lancaster is finished. Working on an airfield diorama. Looks to be a good addition. Shi% ton of parts though.

Nice modelling kit
Good modelling kit.would be better on a bigger scale model.but apart from that the price was OK.

Very Handy, well produced, though a few figures would help
This is a very handy supplement to any 1/72 Lancaster kit which would make any diorama setting both accurate and convincing. A few figures would help, as the old HO RAF crew figures would be slightly out of scale and more attuned to the Battle of Britain. Nevertheless, this is a good assortment and well made, which would add both accuracy and educational value to anyone wishing to commemorate Bomber Command and Lancaster ops. A bit of configuring and adaptation would also make it suitable for other Bomber command types in this scale, too. Highly Recommended.

"SCRAMBLE" into your top 10!
Admittedly they haven't made it into a diorama yet but I bought them for the models, I plane to incorporate them into a pan aster diorama but they are great models out right. Load are included for the price and each model is off a great quality. I have found that ins infix kits the quality seems to drop in group kits but this kit doesn't have "quality-for-money" syndrome which i've so creatively dubbed other kits. No personnel are included but for £6 you can get an RAF personnel set that goes great with this kit. I would recommend this to all levels, it can get fiddle at time but other than that's it's a doddle.

very comprehensive
this kit contains everything needed to make a really impressive diorama alongside your favourite 1/72 scale bomber.
