Great product - terrible packaging

This is the most effective styling lotion for controlling my thick quirkily waved hair. However 1 of the three bottles ordered opened in transit spilling sticky lotion all over. It needs a BOX not a flimsy paper envelope!!!

Great Gel for Curly Hair

I have naturally curly 3a/3b curl that has a tendency to be dry & frizzy. I have used many products over the years. This is now my favorite. The gel is lightweight and defines my curls beautifully. It does not make my hair stiff. I can wash it, use the gel, and after 3 days it still looks good. I highly recommend it.

AG liquid effects is similar to their Re:Coil but I don’t like the liquid because of the way it’s dispersed. It would be easier with a pump.

Great water based gel

My hair is curly and bleached I was recommended this gel from my hairstylist. It’s a smooth gel that I love to use before diffusing. First time using a gel that didn’t leave a thick cast or crunch to my hair, but holds nicely.

AG Liquid Effects Extra Firm Styling Lotion is by far the best hair gel that I have ever used. AG has gotten it right in hair gel for curly hair. I love this product. I have very curly and frizzy hair and this product provides the right control so I have a cascade of long beautiful curls with no frizz even in humid weather. You can use more or less depending on the hold desired or needed, on wet or damp hair. The product is not a lotion consistency, it is a liquid gel. I also use several other AG hair products including their shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner and other styling products for curly hair. All of which I highly recommend. If you were to try one product first I would absolutely go with the Extra Firm Styling Lotion. I can truly say that I love my hair because of AG products!

I expected more for the price

I bought this recently with the curl activator as a bit of a splurge. Since I've been going natural with my curly hair I've mostly used drug store brands for my hair. My hair is super fine and needs a lot of hold to keep my curls in place while they dry, this AG gives the product a 5/5 for hold. Compared to other strong hold gels and mousse I've used I would say it's more of a 3/5. With this and the curl activator I start out with pretty defined hair after I've worked them in, but as my hair dries my curls have kind of stretched out and gone a bit limp in places. I also pretty much need a refresh each day after wash day, with my herbal essence mouse I usually don't need a refresh until the third day. The second thing that I was't impressed with is how dull and lifeless my hair looks when I use these products. I've used a lot of gels by the Mane Choice in combination with the herbal essence mouse, and they always leave my hair super shiny and glossy. The color of my hair is much darker with this and kind of looks like it's greasy even if the texture doesn't look greasy, If that makes any sense. I doubt I'll even finish the bottle. I've been experimenting with the curl activator and different products with some really amazing results. If you're looking for a really strong hold gel, I would say skip this one. But I would recommend the curl activator by AG if you're after more definition.

Finally!!!

I have heat damaged 3A/B curls and have had no luck in finding a product that can define my curls, until now! After rinsing out conditioner in the shower I combed through this product and then once out of the shower, put a bit more in after taking a cotton tshirt to it. Then let the tshirt sit on my head for a good 20 minutes, then let air dry. Curls are defined, not crunchy. Next time I might see what happens with a light blow dry with a diffuser. I highly recommend this for unruly curls! Very happy with this product.

10000% worth the price for curly hair!

(1st photo: me on a normal day after using this product. 2nd photo: no hair product - an old picture I took to illustrate to my friends how crazy my hair can get!) I've been using this product on my 3B curly hair for ~10 years, which is long enough for me to occasionally forget that this is the HOLY GRAIL. Sometimes I try to branch out for a cheaper option ... it's always a disaster. I truly cannot recommend this enough. It leaves my hair defined and totally frizz free (as long as I'm careful to avoid the worst of the humidity where I live) when on its own it would be a frizzy disaster. 1 bottle lasts me 1.5-2 months. I recommend not using too much - it's not needed. It is often the only thing I use in my hair. If the hair is not manipulated, it dries with a shiny gel cast which is incredibly easy to scrunch out, and leaves your hair looking completely natural with almost no residue! I've never uploaded a photo to a review before, much less a photo of myself, but it felt necessary to show how awesome this stuff is!

Amazing product

Absolutely love this product!!! I have been using it for about 25 years & the only problem is that they stopped making it in a larger size. It controls fizz beautifully & helps keep the curl in. I use it every night after I wash my hair , I always go to bed with my hair wet & this way I don't have to do much to it in the morning , just pull it back in clips. I have tried sooooo many different products & nothing works as well as this!

Wow, I'm impressed!

I've got medium length wavy hair, and this product not only enhances the waves but gives my hair a really nice shine, and wet look, if desired. It holds great as well. Without a doubt, this will be my goto hair product from now on. :)

So disappointed in the changes

I used Curves by Pravana for my curly hair for many years until they discontinued the product in favour of alcohol-free formulas. This is the first product that I had found that compared. It made my hair very crunchy when I let it air dry at night. In the morning I scrunched out the crunch and my curls were perfect! Well now AG has gone down the same road replacing ingredients and this no longer works. I was so disappointed to have to return it.

Not the same

No, no,no! I have used this product for over 20 years used and then they changed the formula. It is horrible. They have made substitutions to many ingredients. I contacted the ag hair company and they confirmed the substitutions. It makes my hair very dry and gives me pimples on my scalp. This is NOT the same good old formula that I have trusted for years. Do not be fooled by new packaging...it's not all that has changed. I will be looking for another product.
