Provides Adequate Light with Proper Bulbs

This lamp is a step up from the very basic, but only a small step. It has a glass shade, rather than plastic, a plus. The parts fit together well enough, with one piece screwing into the next, as all of these pole lamps do. The cord is long enough. The switch on the fixture is OK, but it is on the flimsy side, enough that I wonder as to its useful life. When assembled, the fixture stands reasonably straight, and it does not wobble or "sag" as some of the lesser pole lamps do. My purpose was to light a large room with high ceiling. I went through three LED lamps that did not work with the wall light switch in the room; there is something funky about LED lamps and wall switches. Manufacturers claimed they would work, but they did not. I went back to a lamp with a conventional socket that accepts a medium base lamp (bulb). I bought high wattage (20 watt) LED bulbs, equivalent to 100 watts, and the two of them the lamp takes did the trick. The room is very bright, for which I am relieved. The overall quality is just OK, and for the cost and the location it lives in (upstairs bedroom), it works. This is far from a showpiece for the living room that you would want the world to see.

Almost perfect!

I purchased the chrome one and although it is beautiful, I returned it. The ONLY reason I returned it is.. under what they call the "floating base", there is a black heavy material that gives the base some weight so that it doesn't topple over. This black material reminds me of pavement and when I ran my hand across the bottom, there were little tiny black flakes on my hand. The material that transferred on my hand is finer than sand, but I didn't like it and didn't want it to transfer on my carpet, and therefore, returned the lamp. It would probably work out best for someone that has hard floors. Regarding the packaging, it arrived in the original packaging (it wasn't placed in an Amazon box) and it was really beat up. I thought the glass lampshade would be broken but everything inside was in perfect condition.

Great lamp with a small flaw

Unique lamp in that it uses two 150 Watts bulbs. It's very pretty and not prohibitively expensive. The only confusing part is that the bulbs should be dimmable. This lamp does NOT use the 50-100-150 bulbs (stupid in my opinion). Instead it has 2 power settings. If your bulb is not dimmable, the first power setting will cause flickering, the second will work normally. To me it is a nonissue, because I bought this lamp to always be used at max power, but for some people it may be a deal breaker, since a lot of LED bulbs won't support this feature. Adesso should make this lamp with two options - one with just an on and off switch for the 150 bulb lights and one for 50-100-150 bulbs.

Beautiful modern and Art Deco-ish chrome design

Beautiful modern and Art Deco-ish chrome design. Wonderful frosted glass top. Sturdy, well made, looks to be much more expensive than it really is. Lighting is very bright with (2)150 watt bulbs. After experimenting with different bulbs, I felt that just (2) 9 watt fluorescent bulbs was plenty bright enough. Loved it so much that I bought another, but it arrived with the glass top broken in several pieces. I returned it through Amazon prepaid shipping for another, but when the replacement arrived, the glass top came shattered into multiple tiny shards. I noticed that it arrived in the same box as the one I had returned (there were damage marks on the package in the exact same pattern and sizes). I returned it to Amazon for a refund this time, and noted my suspicions that it was the same light. Hope they take the time to investigate.

Keep it away from children and rambunctious puppies.

Lamp was easy to assemble and looks very nice. This lamp is very top heavy and mine was knocked over and the lamp shade was broken in less than a day. Tough time finding a new shade and the manufacturer is no help!

Quality less than expected

The pole appears to be seamless in the photo, but actually comes in three sections (each section screws together so is sturdy but less attractive). The frosted globe is very thin and does not compare to the quality and appearance of my other frosted lamp globes (big disappointment). If you are just looking for a non-halogen up-light lamp that accepts high wattage light bulbs, this lamp is perfect. I am using two 75 watt incandescent bulbs (lamp will accept two 150 watt bulbs) which works perfect for my needs. The two-way switch reduces the wattage in each bulb - you do not need to purchase expensive multi-wattage bulbs. The base is heavy and perfect for solid floors, less stable on carpeting.

Adesso Metropolis Floor Lamp

This lamp is very nice. It has a contemporary design that fits in well with my home decor. The only things I find lacking is the switch comes off so I have to be careful when turning it on or off (it is a cheap plastic switch) and although it has 2 light settings it skips so you have to turn the switch more than the one time to put it on the setting you want. Otherwise with the correct light bulb it gives off good light.

New version is ok, but quality has declined alot

I bought this lamp a few years ago and was impressed with the quality. Ordered again 4 years later for another room and it's obvious the mfr has invested money in lowering cost (= poorer quality). The weighted bottom is heavy enough to not easily tip and pole is still metal and screws in straight, but the top component that houses the light bulbs and switch is no longer metal - now a hard plastic and the switch feels like it won't last long. I'm using a remote control. It's ok for a den or basement rec room, but I wouldn't want it in my living room.
