Accurate and easy to install, outdoor collector has issues

When it works, this thing is great. I tested accuracy and it was within a few hundredths of an inch! The display is easy to read, and easy to use; I love being able to read the current rain totals without going outside, or picking up the binoculars. Installation was quick and simple, and the RF connection seems steady and stable. I did not give 5 stars because of 2 operational problems: Bluebirds land on the collector lip and poop into the cup, which clogs the drain and requires frequent cleaning. Also, jumping spiders get inside the collector and web the cup mechanism so that it will no longer swivel. I had to remove the collector cover for cleaning so often, that one of the tabs broke. I think both these issues could be prevented with an improved collector design.

Accurate rain meter

I have another rain gauge that has a lot more measurements which I love, made by the same company, but when the batteries are changed, it loses all of the measurements, plus it has it won't keep any totals for rain accumulatio. This gauge keeps a running total for day month and year. The other model has a lot more reading such as tempture measurements in/outside, humidity, barometric trends. I like both, but rain measurement is important to me. I would recommend this gauge.

Works great

Way better than the plastic ones. Do not have to go look out in the yard while it is raining. When it freezes it will not Crack from the frozen water either.

Doesn’t save data in non-volatile storage

Device loses its data when batteries have to be replaced. Also, the two snap locks on the sides of the rain collection unit break easily as they become brittle over time, and the material is not UV resistant.

Great Rain Gauge

This thing works great! It is nice to sit in my chair and see the rainfall adding up on the gauge. I don't even have to go out of the house!

Reliable and accurate

If you use the correct force and removal procedure the plastic tabs on the outside unit will tend to not break. Ham-fisted or sloppy operation will likely break them. The batteries that are in that outside are very well protected if the installation procedures and suggestions are followed. Wireless Connection is easy, fast, and automatic if you follow directions. The display is easy to read and very clear. The unit auto-empties reliably. The measurement of rainfall, compared to other methods, is accurate and reliable. Mine stopped working and I removed the outer cup to get to the auto-emptying paddles within the outside unit. I had two spiders with webs that had taken up occupancy on the curved paddles. I cleaned them (the paddles, not the spiders) and used double-sided tape to attach a small piece of insect repellent plastic, harvested and repurposed from the Hot Shot 100046114 No-Pest Strip, on the inside of the cup to prevent re-infestation. I used a tiny bit of dry lubricant on the pivot point of the paddles at the beginning of the season to enhance the movement of the paddles. If the collection cup is left outside during freezing temperature, it will more than likely be ok, except that it won't work. There isn't any standing water left in the cup at any time due to the auto-emptying feature. The ports in the bottom of the cup need to be cleaned 2 or 3 times a season by running a pipe cleaner through them. I moisten the pipe cleaners with bleach to help keep the ports clean. It is an outside device, after all, and it is subject to getting clogged based on your installation point. With reasonable and easy care, ours has lasted three seasons with zero problems. Highly recommended except for one detail that, for me, is really annoying: the unit cannot be manually cleared. Daily rainfall from midnight to midnight is great. Rainfall from yesterday added to today is great. Weekly rainfall is ok. But what if you have a 4 day rain period that you'd like to know about? It would be great if there was a "clear" button that would manually reset the unit whenever desired. The cheaper version of this receiver has a clear button, but not this one. A very minor point, but, still a bit irritating. Remove the batteries to clear the unit works fine, but then the time and date and units, etc. have to be reset.

Works well, but fragile case and funnel

I had this out on my deck for a few months and it worked well. In particular, the "rtl_433" program can read data from the sensor and forward it to other systems. It's great for the DIY home automation crowd. However, when I went to bring it in for the winter, one of the tabs cracked for the funnel. This was mentioned in other reviews too. I'm going to glue it back together, and I expect I can get several more seasons out if it with some minor repairs.

Gumball machine junk

AcuRite 02446M Wireless Rain Gauge is complete junk. After four hours of troubleshooting unable to obtain reliable consistent tipping cup count at receiver end. On each restart performance declined further. wireless signal strength unreliable most of time and no bar weak signal. When strong signal device seemed worse. Tested it at < 3 feet distance. Changed channel to eliminate possiblity of interference. It was even more unreliable. Ran thru all tests in booklet. Rain count most likely very off due to tipping pendulum electronic circuit missread likely due cheap magnetic field components. Unable to adjust out. Waste of time and definitely not worth the cost of material. Returned for full refund.

Great Product.

Sorry I cant give a 5 rating for accuracy as I don't have any means of comparing. But totals from the weather channel are close enough for me. Thanks for the great product.

came fast and works well, good wifi range, easy to understand
