Functional and long-lasting on a budget.
Love these little guys. I bought one 8 years ago, and one recently. The one went through multiple coats of poly. Instead of sanding it again, I replaced the wood. They both look new now, with wood finish and spray paint.

Pretty ingenious, and a good product - especially for the cost
I bought this to make a bench that my son and I could use while waiting for the bus in the morning and the afternoon at the end of our driveway. We're on a fairly busy street and I'm still not entirely convinced that a bench placed there isn't going to up and disappear one day. So rather than spend a ton of money on a nice wooden bench (which, while beautiful, would pain me greatly if it "walked"), I decided to give this a try. I figured that if this did disappear, I'd be out a fraction of the cost of a more expensive bench and I would kick myself for a far shorter duration. While the instructions aren't the most descriptive (think Ikea with even less detail and no smiley man showing you what to do), it was fairly straightforward as to how to assemble. The assembly itself wasn't quite as easy as I had hoped. While there are cutouts in the legs where you put the included screws, my wood kept moving on me, which was really annoying. Since this is intended for use with 2x4 lumber, I almost wish there were ridges to help guide you where to put the lumber and help you keep in in place while screwing it in (and help you keep the recommended 1/4" space between the boards for drainage). And speaking of screwing, I had some issues getting the screws to go in easily for a couple of the spots closest to the ends. Those spots didn't have as much room directly above the cutout due to the curve of the leg support and my drill had some issues getting the correct angle. I almost stripped a few of those screws, but while there were extras included, I didn't have to use them. When it was all said and done, I had a 6' bench that supports my larger-than-average rear (albeit with a bit of bowing in the middle, but that's the fault of the lumber, not the product). It looks good and after I secured it to a tree in our front yard with a length of wire rope and a padlock (yeah, THAT looks awesome!), I'm hopeful this will get us through several years. And even if the wood doesn't last, I'm thinking I should be able to simply replace that and reuse the legs.

Problem Solver
I needed to replace my collection of small tables used on my carpeted outdoor concrete deck in Florida. Wooden legs were always a problem as, no matter how much waterproofing was applied to the legs, they eventually rotted. The indoor/outdoor carpet would get wet and hold water in contact with the legs. Enter the 2X4 basics Any Size Table. A simple solution to my problem. The resin legs will not rot and the rest of the table's construction was up to me. I needed a wider than 15" table so I had to work around the limitations of the stock design. These legs allow for four 2x4's to be attached as the top with a fifth required for the lower single cross support. I opted to attach another two cross members directly under the top. These were affixed to the four 2x4's with screws and construction adhesive allowing for a top of roughly 22". The final design was wide enough and sturdy enough to attach a separate riser made of wood to support a small stone fountain. I could have used wider lumber but the screw slots wouldn't have lined up and I would still be trying to support the outer edge. I think that the attachment of additional cross members is a better solution if you need a wider table. The design of the legs couldn't be simpler. You cut the top pieces to the length of your desired table (or bench) and then cut a single piece about 6" shorter than the other top pieces. This last piece is the lower cross member. As designed, four 2x4's are attached with the provided screws at the positions indicated on the leg pieces which are small slots. The single cross member is attached to the legs in the same manner with 4 screws at each end. I recommend that you cut your top pieces slightly longer than you need and make the final trim cut to both ends only after the table is assembled. This is simple to do with a skill saw and you can clamp a guide board across the table to assure a straight cut. Two coats of a good quality exterior stain can be applied after a light sanding for a more finished look. I used pressure treated yellow pine and had to wait for the wood to dry out before stain application.

Not too bad for the money
I thought this was too good to be true for the price, but all the benches I looked at on here and the big box store sites were too expensive for my budget (replacing a dead hot tub on my deck). They look a little flimsy but turned out to be reasonably sturdy. I painted them with direct to plastic spray paint and they look a lot better, and the paint adhered to the plastic pretty well. The kit I ordered was obviously a return (the box had been clumsily taped back together) so I checked everything and it looked like no one had stolen parts or tried to put it together and returned it. There was one screw missing from the packet (which was still sealed) but that wasn't big deal for me. Although the kit states that the maximum length of the bench is 8 feet I know from experience that the boards on an 8 foot bench will sag in the middle after a few years in the weather, so it's necessary to screw on a couple 2x4 supports on the bottom side. I used 2 supports spaced evenly which worked fairly well on my aging picnic table. If you really want to be assured that it won't sag you could buy another kit and use one of the supports in the center. I would have done that except for the cost. If the 2x4s you use are really wet (heavy or oozing sap) you need to let them air dry outdoors for a few weeks until they are completely dry or else they will twist and basically ruin the bench. You can avoid this by buying kiln dried 2x4s (more expensive but worth it). I used cedar boards which were already dry, and they're practically rot-proof. If you want it to survive more than a few years stain it with deck stain, or any wood stain + outdoor clear polyurethane.

Good sturdy product (once you have added the wood)
Good sturdy product (once you have added the wood). Thought it could have been clearer that the inter-connecting lower piece of wood needs to be smaller dimension but v. easy to assemble if you have a local timber merchant to cut the wood. Looks like it will last for many years....

Sturdy bench legs, just add timber.
Bought this one as a birthday present for a friend, having bought one for my own garden last year. Basically what you get is the moulded recycled plastic legs. It's very easy to use a few pieces of 2x4 or 2x6 outdoor or construction timber to make a very sturdy bench. Mine is light enough to move around the garden to wherever we want to sit.

Looks more expensive than it is!
Great little kit. All you have to do is send hubby to get some wood and you have everything you need to make a great little bench! Make to any length you like. Feels sturdy when sat on.

Absolutely brilliant! Creates an extremely sturdy bench for half the price of anything listed on eBay or elsewhere and does the job perfectly!
