You may want to read before buying
All product reviews should be written in a way that helps potential buyers, not to simply talk about themselves. I've owned this for about 2 weeks now and wanted to share some thoughts. 1. To quickly get this out of the way...I've seen some reviews where people are receiving a completely flat item. I believe those are simply defective and perhaps they were punctured during shipping (I believe this is closed cell foam technology). Mine (queen size) came as it was expected; once I rolled it open it began to expand. 2. I'm a bit mixed on these foam mattress toppers. I'm keeping mine but I've seen some people give satisfaction or dissatisfaction for completely opposite reasons, which makes the buying decision confusing. I have been dealing with a lot of sciatica lately (and I'm still relatively young) and don't want to buy a new mattress right now - so I bought this to FIRM up my overall sleeping experience, and it's worked. Some people say they bought this to SOFTEN their mattress, but I simply don't understand how that would be. I'm not challenging those folks, but perhaps there are many variables such as your actual mattress, etc. But I believe this product is to make your mattress/sleep experience firmer, not softer. Especially if you've been dealing with back issues. 3. Since this has FIRMED up my mattress/sleeping experience, it has been helping with my back pain; I can completely feel a difference after the first night. So if you're buying for that reason, this should (hopefully) work. 4. I wasn't sure if I'd like this "egg crate" style, as opposed to a smooth topper, but don't be afraid...it feels nice, actually. I put this mattress pad underneath a quilted mattress cover (which I was already using). I recommend that's how you use it. Your mattress, then this topper, then a quilted cover, and your fitted sheet. That will "smooth out" the feeling of too many high points due to the egg crate design. Doing it this way will make a more subtle, overall experience. 5. I don't know how long this will last and I completely understand how these foam toppers compress when in use and decompress after, but when I make my bed in the morning I can see the "indent" of my body on my mattress for about 30-45 minutes. I'm single and generally use only half of my bed, so it looks a little silly and strange, but I'm sharing this not so much for the look, but for the overall durability. If this stays compressed for some time after using it, I think it's a reasonable conclusion that over time, this will become permanently flatter and flatter. How long will that take? I have no clue. This was $50 for the queen size, and perhaps more expensive ones will last longer (not sure) but $50 was where my comfort level was. This is helping me and my back, but after all, it's a single piece of blue foam...literally. How much should we pay for a piece of foam as opposed to just buying a new mattress? That's for you to decide, of course. 6. On a more minor level, if you're buying this for "cooling," my experience is that I do feel a bit cooler (although it's winter in the northeast). But again, some people say it cools them and some say it makes their sleep experience hotter (and worse). Maybe another factor of variables for each person...I simply can't say/don't know. Hope this review helps you make your decision.

I wish this same foam mattress came in 4"
I am well pleased with this 3" foam mattress pad, but, wish there was a 4" version just like it....will be purchasing an additional 1" or 2". This has given me back "a good night's sleep" and I so appreciate that. Pain reduction on my back, hip and knee means a lot to me. I just needed that extra 1" or 2" padding for my hip . I highly recommend this pad. I opened it...there was no odor...I let it sit for two days and settle to it's 3 " height and put it on the bed. I love it

It grows on you
I had my hopes dropped low when I opened the topper. I ordered a king size, and what came out was maybe just large enough for a twin bed. I decided to let it sit overnight, but it was still small the next day. I started a return for it and everything thinking that I had gotten the wrong sized item. About three days later, it popped! I was surprised it took so long, but now we have it on our king bed and it's actually quite comfortable. Definitely helped with aches and pains upon waking up.

Good and bad
I've had the 2 inch for about a week now. Before you open the box decide where you'll be laying it down to fully de-compress which takes roughly 24hrs. You need to be gentle with it when you take it out of the box and begin to unroll it while it is still in the plastic sheeting. It comes folded in half and then rolled up so it looks small. I gently cut the bottom of the sheeting and it started to expand a little. I slit it open along the edge of one side to let it expand. When I tried to separate the foam (it is folded in half) I found it sticks together. If you're not careful it can rip. I did it a little at a time every 10 minutes or so as it was expanding. Eventually I cut along the other side of the plastic sheeting and unfolded the plastic which made a large sheet of plastic that was protecting it from my living-room floor. You need to let it lay somewhere to fully expand so plan in advance where you will do that...best to have a spare room away from kids or pets. You could put it on top of an old blanket or a drop cloth if you don't want to take the time to open the plastic the way I did though. When I put it on the bed the next day, I was surprised how the 2 inches made it actually harder for me to get into my bed so BEWARE of that if you have thick mattresses or are buying it for an older person. I really can't sit on the edge of the bed anymore like to put on socks without a struggle. I'm 5'3" It seems pretty comfortable compared to having the mattress poking me....but then again, I finally got around to rotating the mattress and that could have helped too. I put this foam pad over my regular mattress pad. I knew there wasn't going to be enough room to put it underneath and I saw some questions about the product where people wondered that. There are no instructions on the subject in the box but there are 3 blank greeting cards in there? One is a thankyou card you write your own message and two Hello you blank cards. They seem very high quality for cards but without envelopes they are pretty useless....and who really sends out those cards anymore? I felt a little guilty throwing them out but I am trying to fight my clutter habits. Although I guess it was a nice gesture, it seems wasteful to include them. Laying on the bed feels nice. I do sink in after a few minutes but it is still comfortable UNTIL I start tossing and turning which I do often. My problem is it somehow makes it a little harder to support myself with my arm to flip myself. I've been having some shoulder pain in the mornings and it could be that or many other things but the truth is every night I start off saying this is really nice and every time I get out of bed I say I don't like it. It is a cheap fix to an uncomfortable mattress. Because it's hard for me to dig my heels in or my arm into the mattress to turn myself, I can only guess that is why some people say their pad ripped. Just wanted to give a review because I find reviews very helpful when shopping. Something to consider if you are buying this for an older person or someone with a disability.

Good
Bought this for my spa bed. To me it was the perfect size, not too much just the right amount. Clients love it. I use it for my waxing bed, so I needed something that wasn’t to much cushion where they seep but still adding comfort

Be Patient, this might be the topper for you
The topper came in a box, folded in half and rolled. When I opened this up it has deep creases at the fold and the inside edge of the roll. I laid it on the guest bed (which was way too hard for me) to expand. After 3 days it was in a funny shape, I guess from the friction to the bed it wasn't expanding flat. I flatten it out and after a week it still has some crease and the roll edge has one patch that did not expand. I was disappointed but decide to sleep on it to see if I exchange it or return it. I tried the dimple side down, since I thought I like the bed warm in the winter ( without air circulation from the dimples). I didn't like it since it feels somewhat unsupportive. I left it for another couple of weeks and thought I would try the dimple side up before I return it. and Voila! the topper was fully expanded without a trace of the previous imperfections... I like it much better dimple side up. My back felt properly supported. The dimple took some getting use to, but I've grown to like it quite a bit. The mattress doesn't feel particularly warm or cold, which is good. I guess I just got a mattress that has been rolled up for a long time. Overall it is a very good value for a topper and I can finally get a good sleep on my guest bed!

Wonderful 2-in-1 Topper!
I've very pleased with this topper! I ordered the 4", and unlike the smaller sizes, it's actually two toppers stuck together -- a 1" and a 3-ish" (it's about 3 inches at the peaks or slightly less). Some reviewers complained that the two layers could be separated, which is why I bought it! I wasn't sure if I wanted a 3 or 4 inch and so I got this, ended up removing the one inch layer on top (it is more firmly stuck then it seems -- it took at least 5 min to pry them apart), and so now I have the 3 inch I want with a bonus 1inch other topper! So in the end I got to try the 1 inch, the 3 inches, and the 4 inches, so I can say that I think most people wouldn't find enough benefit from just 1 inch (though it was quite nice), 4 inches is going to be too soft for most people, and the 3, and I think the 2, is probably what you want to look at if you are sleeping on a really hard bed/surface and need it softened. The 3" feels unnecessarily cozy and luxurious (so it's lovely, but I think the 2" might have even been better), while the 4" was so soft there was no support left from beneath it at all. Other stuff: 1) Maybe 1/2 of the inflating happened in five minutes (it was inflating as I was still removing it from the plastic so I had to move fast!), maybe 3/4 in the first hour, and then the rest took overnight. 2) Regarding the "egg-carton" top, I actually find it very aesthetically pleasing -- I can't feel the bumps under me while lying on them, but I can feel them under my hands and feet and I actually really like it for some reason I can't quite place :P 3) Some reviewers say the dimensions were off; I didn't measure exactly but it fit my twin bed normally. 4) As far as I can tell, the "temperature" of this is ordinary, though I've mostly slept on the yellow foam, which is the same temperature as memory foam, and not on the blue layer. (I'm a hot sleeper but I've never found a mattress specifically to be "hot" and just use a fan to keep me cool while I sleep.) 5) The only downside to this topper is that it doesn't come with a protector. Overall, this is a great option if you can't decide what size you want, and the 3" and the 4" are only five dollars apart right now. At about $85/$100 after everything, it's a great soft topper that's cheaper than many others on Amazon right now (Jan 2023). Recommended! :) P.S. The cats rate the long sturdy box it came in 4.5 stars :P

Made sleeping on my old spring mattress a dream
I don't often review products unless they're books. If I do, it's because I'm either really happy with them or really unhappy. Luckily, this time it's the first one. It may in fact be the best thing I've purchased in the past year. Here's how it is. I have an old mattress, spring type, with spots where the springiness isn't as strong and so finding a comfortable sleeping position could be a bit of a trial. I probably should just get a whole new mattress, but I'm cheap, and worried about satisfaction... if I'm going to drop a lot of money on a mattress, I want to be sure I'll like it, and I've never really slept on a memory foam long term, and some research suggested that memory foam sometimes had a problem with smelling weird or being too hot--although gel-filled ones like these aren't supposed to be as bad--and what if I get one and get rid of my old mattress and wind up not liking it. Yadda yadda yadda, I was dithering for a long time. Then I decided to take a lesser risk and try a mattress pad, figuring it'd let me try out and see how that heat problem might be... if it turned out to be intolerable, I only spent a little money to find out, and in the meantime, it might help me sleep a little more comfortably. Boy did it help. The pad isn't super thick (the 2-inches is from bottom to the textured foam peaks I think, so at its thinnest points it's probably half that), but it's good enough to do the job for me and smooth out all the uncomfortable spots in my own mattress. I've had it for a little under a month now, and from the first day I put it on, I've slept loads more comfortably, and rarely wake up in pain like I used to, and am in generally a better mood. I guess I didn't realize just how uncomfortable it was with that old mattress, gotten used to suffering. Like having an egomaniacal sociopath reality TV star as US President, once you don't have to deal with it everyday, even if there are still tons of problems in the world, everything just looks better all around. My nose isn't particularly sensitive, but I noticed no particular smell (unpleasant or otherwise) and used it the evening I received it (after letting it bounce back from the tight packing for a few hours). No problems with it becoming uncomfortably hot, either, so I guess the gel did its job, although granted I haven't tried it out in the thick of summer yet. If it does become a problem, I'll update. Similarly if it somehow wears out quickly. A month's not a long time to judge a mattress by. But I'm giving it five stars anyway because right now I'm so pleased I bought it. If I have any complaint it's that it tends to, over a few days, slide off-center from the mattress (even when both are covered by a fitted sheet), but I'm not sure that's a problem a pad like this is responsible for solving, and it's easy enough to pull it back when noticed. If having to do that regularly is the price I pay for such good sleep, I'll happily pay it.

Sooo Dreamy
So comfy. I can finally sleep through the night and wake up feeling so much better. It doesn't take away all the pain but it does help alot with the discomfort. (it's not medicated) My body isn't as stiff. I bought another one for my patio hammock Lol It's great

Folded mattress
Because therewas so much dust on the bag, thismatttess must have been in the warehouse for a very long time. It was folded in half before rolling; then all the air was removed from its bag. Consequently the fold has not disappeared leaving a “lump” across the center of the mattress. This nakes an uncomforrable sleep.
