Great bags, but black color has dye transfer.
UPDATE: After my first initial review of getting a damaged tan color and returning the black one due to color transfer, I went ahead and got an exchange for the tan one only. I'm very pleased to write that this replacement is terrific! No x-acto knife damages whatsoever! There are some dark splatter spots on the back of the bag, which looks like it could be from the straps adjuster hardware (the underside is coated a dark color for some reason), but it kinda looks like it's naturally in the leather. I provided a full shot of the bag in my review. The full shot has stuffing inside the bag as it was slightly flattened from shipping. I also used a leather cleaner and moisturizer so it darkened a little, which I love. I completely forgot to take a before shot, sorry! The tan color came is a much lighter color and the leather looked very dry and crackly. There was some dye transfer, but I think it was residual dye as now there's not much trace going on my hand and very little on a white cloth. I am a bit disappointed with Amazon, they shipped this bag in a thin white bag, no bubble protection whatsoever! This isn't the first time Amazon has shipped leather goods to me in thin shipping bags with zero protection... very annoying!!! Ordered this backpack in 2 colors, black and tan. Was extremely excited due to the glowing reviews and the size/weight of this bag was exactly what I was looking for. I ordered these directly from Amazon with prime shipping. The one major thing that bugged me about how these were shipped is they came in a thin clear plastic bag, no protection whatsoever made by the manufacturer (not Amazon's fault at all). The box the bags came in had that new leather smell so I was thrilled to know it was real leather. I can go either way, real or faux, faux being more weather friendly, but has a chance of that toxic smell... aka PU leather. These bags not only smelled amazing, they looked great... until I inspected them thoroughly. While I can accept the flaws of it's raw leather goodness, I was upset to see sliced/cut marks on the tan bag, as if someone accidentally x-acto knifed them... hence why I wish the manufacturer packaged these better! The black only being held and inspected for 5 minutes had color transfer all over my hands, my finger tips were all charcoal coloring. Very upset as I loved the style vintaged look of these bags, but the quality with the dye turned me off. I have read reviews on other David King & Co bags with dye transfer so I decided to cancel my replacement order (the tan being damaged) and look elsewhere for my dream backpack. I provided some photos, it's hard to see the leather cuts, but in person they were a deal breaker for me :(

Its made of the type of "bomber jacket leather" that looks better as it ages
I was looking for a leather backpack purse that could hold my 10 inch ASUS transformer. This holds my transformer, LG phone, full size wallet (or a book), keys, small mouse, lip gloss, 2 pens, and a small carry-on size hand sanitizer and lotion in the side pocket. And I still have room for more small things if I wanted. I only wish it were a little more attractive. It has the type of cute that has to grow on you. Its made of the type of "bomber jacket leather" that looks better as it ages. It seems very durable in the leather and hardware. It fits comfortable on your back when full. The straps are nice if using both or have them zipped together using one single strap. I gave it five stars because I need more function than cute, it allows me to carry my computer with other things while being hands free and comfortable, yet convert to working at a moments notice. If you are looking for functionality and durability, this is the purse. If you are looking for really really cute....keep looking

Very nice small backpack
This is a very nice bag, but just a little small for me. My Samsung Galaxy S4 will not fit in side pockets unless I take the cover off. It will fit in the front zipper compartment. You can fit a mini tablet, but not a full size iPad. Like that back strap zips together as a sling. The U zipper on the one I received does not pull real smooth. I am comparing to a mid sized Le Donne bag that is at higher cost. The color is a very nice espresso brown. If you are looking for a good quality smaller backpack at a reasonable price and don't want to put large smart phone in side pocket, I would consider this one.

Well-made & Real Leather
This is beautiful and well-made. The zippers seem to be good, durable quality. The leather is a bit stiff and I hope it will soften a bit with use so that it will be more flexible. Right now it's a bit of a struggle to get things in and out of it. I am disappointed the straps do not adjust long enough to wear as a sling, and using the single strap option on my shoulder usually ensures it will end up on the ground. It is taking some getting used to so I stop dropping it. I'm hanging in there with it for the time being since I love the look and quality.

Very expensive for what it is
I love this bag for its size and functionality, however I find the price is really too high for what it is. This is a bag I use when I travel and don't want to carry a big or heavy bag around. I looked everywhere for one like it and had to settle for this as it was one of the only ones I could find. I wish more of these bags were made and offered. I find the price ridiculously high but still do love the bag.

Perfect
I have bought several of these for my daughter over a period of years. It is the only bag she carries on a daily basis. She is a busy working mother, and this serves her well. She absolutely loves it! It helps her to be organized, it is not too big or small and it has everything she needs in a backpack purse. It is also very good looking.

Not bad
Le Donne has a similar backpack which has a few differences in the details and is a little more expensive. I ordered both and decided to return this one. Honestly I like some of the David King's features better, like the outside pocket at the back and the more flexibly adjustable straps (the straps of Le donne one can only be adjusted to three positions). But I find the leather and the metal parts that Le Donne uses seems better so I decided to keep that one. But still if a pocket at the back and flexible straps are important to you, don't hesitate to order this one, it is not bad at all.
