Great smart lock!!
Love our Yale Smart Locks, great tech support and love the Yale App interface! We have one on our AirB&B it makes so we can send guests a personal entry code that expires once they’re time is up. Loved the first lock so much I added a second to my shop!!

Great integration with Alexa
I have the first generation of the Yale Assure Lock with the August module and have been pleased with both the lock and the integration with Alexa. My favorite feature so far has been when she mentions the back door is unlocked and asks if it should be locked. So when I was looking to replace the front door lock, I went for the newer version with the key and wifi. I will always recommend the keyed version despite the other versions looking so streamlined because I know you can get into the house with the key if something goes wrong with the lock. Yes, you are supposed to be able to use a 9 volt battery to revive the lock so you can access the house, but a key is easier in my opinion. Gone are the days of needing a bridge to connect to wifi which is great, but I have read that the battery life is only three months. I have not yet installed the door sensor which tells you if the door is open or shut. There are actually two options for this. One option is a sensor that is screwed to the door frame and the other option is a small sensor which requires a hole to be drilled into the door frame. I am not thrilled with either option for my door and so have been debating. Installation was easy, but I have installed lots of locks. I had no problem also getting everything set up in the app. The app isnt the best with some lags, but I actually rarely use it other than to send me alerts when the door is unlocked. All of my interactions are through my Echo or physically at the door. The lock looks nice and it works well. My favorite features include the ability to give out codes to enter the house that I can then disable once that person no longer needs access. But the integration with Alexa is icing on the cake. I can set locking the doors as part of a routine I created for Alexa at night. She turns off lights and locks the doors and reminds me if I haven’t locked the doors. And no more leaving the house for a trip and wondering if the door is locked. I can just check my phone.

Small piece easy to lose
I've installed locks enough time that I mostly did not need instructions. There is one part that I stress keeping your eye on. This little slotted indexed bit that I photoed. Luckily, it fell out the first time when I was doing parts inventory. The second time, I did not notice it until I tried to install the controller. It is needed to actually turn the flat rod that rotates to control the bolt from the opened to closed positions. It is really small and very easy to lose. Without this little piece, the install is useless. It should not be able to fall out as easy as it does. Other than that, this lock physically installs as easy as any others. Update: another part fell out. This time on the handle set. The spring loaded button that holds the knob fell out after taking the knob off to make an adjustment. It is quite difficult to put back into the handle tube. Without that button, the knob will not stay on and has nothing to catch on when turning the handle. One other thing different from this lock and my other schlage and kwiksets are that the battery compartment is not removable. So make sure to use the ribbon when inserting the batteries. The controller is much smaller than my other locks, so that is a nice bit of streamlining and modernization. The software part of the install was a little bit of a pain. The QR code sent the app into a loop. Trying to scan the code on the actual lock smart module did not work. It was not until I scanned the paper did it eventually get out of the loop. The software update took a little time, but completed successfully. The lock only works on 2.4 wifi. Fortunately, we have both the 2.4 and 5 network set up. After trying to find the key code programming function, I finally searched online and found a video. That user also looked in the exact same places I did, in the settings. The code programming is actually under ther user settings. This is the first lock I have had that did not include instructions on programming key codes. Once I did it, it worked out fine. The app itself works easily and we are getting used to that. Physically closing the lock, the action is smooth. This lock does not rate as high as our old schlage connect, but hopefully, it lasts longer.

Solid feeling handle
Hope the pics are helpful????.Cheers! Comes in very friendly easy to open unsealed ecopackaging. The door handle itself feels good in your hands. Has weight to it and a nice glossy sheen. I picked the steel version because the door I planned to install it on faces the sun and so would heat up in the summer had I gone for the back one. Setting it up on my door took a bit of fiddeling. I didn't read the instructions as I figured I just had to do the reverse of what I did to remove my existing handle. The only item that threw me was the knob hardware came attached and so it took me a while to figure out how to take it apart so I could finally get the screws on. There is a single golden button on the collar of the knob. You need to push it in and pull the knob off so you can access the plate in the back to use your drill or screwdriver on it. I have an existing keypad by Yale on the door right now that will move to my back door when I have the chance. That said I know the installation will be the same as the pad is the same model. It's not too difficult to install if your replacing an existing set. What I mean is that I didn't have to drill any holes using the hole templates so it was a fairly easy swap in a hole for me. You can use both the Yale or the august app to setup the lock. My lock came with the wifi module which is great. I can tell you that the Yale lock is compatible with the august bridge for wifi which was great since I had one. The only downside is that it's one to one. Meaning one bridge per lock or one wifi module per lock is needed. A bridge won't work for 2 locks even when they're in close proximity. Seems to be a hard limit as I could not get both my locks on one.
