Works, but auto unlock is poorly executed
I really like how this fits on your existing lock, so you can still use the key as a backup. Overall, I don't regret the purchase, but there are a few annoyances worth mentioning. Installation was fairly straightforward, it's nice that the app guides you through each step with videos. I hit a minor setback due to an extra plate on the front (exterior side) of my existing lock. This caused the locking pin to not extend far enough for the adapter to turn it, short by maybe a couple mm. It wouldn't have hurt to make the adapters just a bit longer, considering I don't have some obscure lock but one of the popular main brands. I got it to work without the plate, but I had to paint the door behind where the plate used to sit. My one gripe after getting everything installed and cleaned up is the auto unlock feature. You can see a humongous radius in the map when you set the location. Once you leave the zone, then reenter, the door unlocks. You should be able to pinch or use a slider to adjust the radius, but alas, you can't, and are stuck with about a mile wide circle. This causes two problems: 1) The door auto unlocks before I even make the turn to pull into my neighborhood. While this would likely never be an issue, ideally I'd like it to unlock when I pull in the driveway, or at least when I can visibly see my home. 2) I somewhat frequently visit my parents, who live a few blocks down the road. Unfortunately, they're located within the unfathombly large auto unlock zone, so I have to use my key to unlock anyway (you have to leave, then reenter the zone to trigger it). While it's no big deal to use my key, the entire purpose of buying this device was for the convenience of the automation features. This can be solved with a software update, so I hope Wyze wisens up and allows us to adjust the radius of the zone in the future. It seems incredibly short sighted to make the default zone beyond excessively large, considering GPS has pinpoint accuracy. I can count at least 38 homes in my auto unlock zone... I'd like to take off more than one star considering just how unbelievably dumb this is, but the hardware works fine, so I feel 4/5 stars is fair.

The best smart lock I have ever owned!
So let me start this off by saying I have gone through 5 other smart lock door locks starting back from the August 2nd gen, Schlage Homekit lock, all the way to the regular keypad lock and the Wyze door lock tops them all! Installation was a breeze! If you have installed a deadbolt before you can install this, if not wyze has a video that breaks everything down and everything you need is inside the box besides the screwdriver. Now if you are like me that came from a already smart lock like the Schlage Homekit lock then you will need to buy a new deadbolt lock kit as the wyze lock needs a regular deadbolt lock to work. (You can find a good deadbolt lock for less than $20) Once the wyze lock is installed you plug in the little wifi dongle into an outlet. Make sure this dongle is plugged in close to the lock buy also has good wifi connection as this dongle is what's going to control the lock via a remote connection and tell it when to auto unlock when you get home. I would say most problems people have with this lock is either due to poor wifi where the dongle is located or the dongle is located to far away from the lock itself. (keep it within 10 ft of the lock if you can) Now once you get all that installed now you can set the lock up, the wyze app has you scan a QR code inside the lock and after that the app takes over, it asks you to open and close the door a few times to calibrate the lock. One thing to note since the instructions sucked, when it asks you to open the door make sure you open it ALL the way, I was not doing this and the calibration kept failing. It took me an hour to realize I had to open the door all the way then hit the button in the app and then close the door before the door could calibrate. Now once you get the door lock calibrate your done. Now everytime you close the door it will auto lock itself which is AMAZING! Just make sure you have your phone on you because you can lock yourself out. It does have a garbage mode on it which allows you to shut the door without the door auto locking and locking you out. With this I will HIGHLY recommend the wireless keypad which does cost an extra $20 but it is so worth it and will save your bacon if you accidentally lock yourself out and you don't have your phone, trust me I know =) So with all that said how do I like the lock? I love it! The app works great on my Android and iPhones. Auto unlock is a dream! It uses your phones GPS to know when you get home and basically wakes the lock up for it to be ready to unlock, as soon as you get to the door it will auto unlock for you. Now you must be in close range for the door to unlock, if you just drive by your house etc the door will NOT unlock. Side note: if you are having issues with the auto unlock feature and on Android make sure your phone is NOT putting the app to sleep, this can be done the the phones battery management settings and as soon as you fix that auto unlock should work! You can issue temp keys to people so if you want to give a contractor a 1 time key then once he uses it the door will not unlock for him again, or if you want to give a dog walker a pass to get in only certain times a week you can also do that as well. You can also remotely access the lock and lock and unlock the door with your phone anywhere in the world which is what I do if I need to let someone in. Do you need the keypad? I HIGHLY recommend it! If you forget your phone and close the door yea you just locked yourself out trust me I know lol. The keypad is great! If for any reason you dont have your phone or your phones dead you will need the keypad to get into the house. The keypad instantly connects to the lock and as soon as you type in your code it auto locks, you do NOT have to wait for the keypad to pair to the lock like August does. You can also lock your door from the keypad as well if for some reason the auto lock did not work. Now the coolest thing with this keypad is you can punch in random numbers into the keypad as long as your code is in that sequence the door will unlock! I LOVE this feature! So if someone is with you and you dont want them knowing your code you can type in a bunch of numbers and then the code and hit unlock and magically it unlocks. Ex: lets say your code is "1234" in the keypad I will type 593853"1234"5563 then hit unlock since I typed my code inside the sequence the door unlocks for me and the person with me will never know what my real code is! Overall I love this lock, it has worked every single time for me so far, granted I have only had it for 2 months but every other smart lock I have owned has given me at least 1 hiccup and the Wyze has yet to fail me. I will highly recommend the Wyze lock as its easy to install, secure and it just works.

Correction: Auto unlock works for Apartments!
Update: The Wyze App must be at the home page and not at the lock setting page. For auto unlock to work, you have to exit the location radius of your home. Upon return, once you enter the location radius of home which is usually a city square block you have 10 minutes to get within range of your door. When you are within range of your door your bluetooth will tell the lock that you are there and the lock will unlock. Today I tested that out and rushed up to my apartment and lo and behold I heard my door whine and unlocked ceremoniously!!. I was surprised and delighted. To supplement my door lock, I bought the Wyze Keypad that is available in Amazon.com US with a shipping fee of 2x the price but at least I will have a keypad that is more useful to me when the lock locks me out of my apartment without a phone. Update again: the wyze app needs location services on all the time executing in your background apps and that uses up a lot of battery. My Wyze app had been on for 3 days straight and my iPhone ask if I would re-consider. I don't know the answer to this, but perhaps turn on location services for Wyze app before you leave home and turn it back off when you are home. The wyze app needs some kind of update so that we can pretend to go outside the location radius so just to trigger the app to unlock the door when you are within bluetooth range. I want a way to trigger the auto-unlock feature not only if you go away in a car and come back. I want a way to trigger the auto0-unlock even if I just take out the garbage and come back. Perhaps someday link it with some facial recognition camera or RFD hardware where you wave your watch against a sensor. Took one star off 5 stars because the app uses up my battery on location services on all the time. My previous Review: Smarthome products are so ubiquitous and you don't know what to buy. This is one of those products that we either automate first because you need to let someone in the house or it is something you automate last because you are a bachelor and you really don't need it. I am the latter. The nice thing about this product is that you don't need to replace the key portion of the lock meaning that since I live in an apartment the existing master key must work for the landlord, thus the first reason for buying this. I hate any kind of installation but this is as close painless as possible and Wyze promises you 15 minutes and yup it took about 15 minutes and it could have been quicker if I didn't pause in between. Take off screws from existing lock, pause, take off second plate from lock - it is a very old lock, pause, install wyze plate, pause, install wyze plate, pause, install batteries, plugged wyze hub in, press random buttons, didn't read manual, didn't install wyze app, press random buttons, read manual, install wyze app, followed instructions, hub installed, now the lock, followed instructions for lock, calibrated, oiled the bolt, re-calibrated. Done... with a long period of rest. I'm old, but it wasn't as bad of an install as I thought and the deadbolt slides super smooth now. Now about the auto-unlock, I realize that it is location based and I live in an apartment, yeah - no. I thought it would be some kind of proximity sensor thing? phone id? bluetooth? but if my door unlocks when I'm parking my car in the parkade, then no I cannot use auto-unlock for my apartment door. It was my 2nd reason that when I bring home the groceries and as I walked toward my apartment that the door would unlock (and open the door wide :-P). So where does that leave me as a bachelor? This doesn't even open when I'm in the parkade. I tried going out to my post office downstairs and coming back up and standing beside the door; Doesn't work!! So now what? do I return it? Do I keep it? I need a face id that recognizes my face then opens the door. I'll think about returning this useless thing now....

I was very impressed with the feature set (the gyro is a great addition) and ease of installation (both hardware and linking to Google). It's been installed and in use for several months now and I don't ever want to back. Knowing my door will lock itself, that I can check from anywhere to confirm that it's locked, that (because it has a gyro) it knows the door is still open, so it won't even try to lock itself, these are all GREAT features. Highly recommended!

Very nice lock with great features. Definitely better than some of the other locks that are more expensive. Love the door open warning. 3 things i found annoying is that if door opens and closes alot in a short span (going in and out putting away groceries) it can lose its calibration but easy to recalibrate so not a problem. The other thing is the auto lock/alarm etc only have set times, i wish i could custom select how long i want before it locks rather than preset times the app gives (for example i want to do 30 sec). Lastly i wish there was a quicker way to set “garbage mode” where lock doesnt auto lock temporarily. Rather than shutting it off completely from app or turning on garbage mode from lock every single time. Minor annoyance aside, very happy with the lock overall and will be replacing my other smart locks with this one for other doors
