Its alright, it has potential!
Why or why didn't I take better care of my brushes!!!!! I refuse to throw them away even if they are caked up with oil, I just refuse and people, this stuff softens the bristles, but so far that's it. I'm going to keep working with it and will post again in a few days. Maybe I'm looking for "some kind of miracle" oil brush cleaner. Follow-up: This works really well on brushes right after use. Cleans them nicely. As for the older dried out brushes it softens the bristles. I let them soak for 2 days and then I worked with dawn, brush soap and water and I'm doing the same routine one more day. So the product does work to a degree. Its a small bottle so keep that in mind. For myself, I may make another purchase because I do like what has happened with those old, old brushes that I didn't want but didn't want to throw away.

So impressive
I’m embarrassed I’ve never heard of this product before. I’ve thrown away so many ruined brushes and i have so many what I thought were ruined brushes. I soaked all my crusty brushes for not very long and they are so much better. I might soak a couple for a little longer but I’m so impressed so far.

Ruined paint brush handles on expensive brushes
I bought a lot of brushes that were used, but hard to find. When I got the brushes they had hardened oil paint residue on the bristles. A few other ones had a sticky substance. I don't know the history behind the use of the previous owners. I bought this cleaner and while it did remove what I mentioned above, it also got on my hands, I was wearing gloves and this cleaner ate the paint off of the handles and left them tacky. No matter how many times I rinsed them, it just made an absolute mess on the handles. It wore the name of the brushes that are labeled at the factory clear off also. The product worked but I don't know what they put in it, I would assume some kind of lacquer thinner? I am disappointed that there is no way of getting this cleaner completely out of brushes safely. So now have a $170. set of collectable brushes with ruined tacky handles.

Removes Acrylic Paint and Sealant from Resin Dolls, Cleans Airbrushes; Melts My Gloves!
This is not a free product review. I do recommend this product for removing paint and solvent based sealants from resin. I've been using Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer for several years. I like to buy this in the large 32 oz. bottle, which is a great value. This does a great job cleaning brushes, but I primarily use it to remove previous paint (faceups) jobs from my Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls (BJDs) which I paint and seal myself. I use Mr. Super Clear matte/flat to seal the resin followed by acrylic paint, watercolor pencils and chalk pastels, then seal over each layer of my work. Sometimes, I want to re-paint my dolls. Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer removes the sealant and all of my other products from the doll without doing any damage to the resin material. Nothing else works as well. Sometimes I also use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for stubborn spots aided by a tooth brush for small creases. Usually a cosmetic cotton pad works well. The left over residue washes away easily with water and scent-free and dye free dish soap. After this treatment, my dolls are left as clean as if they were just removed from the mold by their artist/maker. I also love Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer to clean my airbrush parts when I break them down for internal cleaning. Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer can be re-used, as I save my used product at times in a small glass jar. The used product works well for especially messy jobs as it sometimes takes a few washes with the product to remove the old paint. I have only one issue with Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer. It melts my gloves, leaving a bigger mess than what I had in the first place. I work in the medical field and frequently wash my hands. My hands are a little rough, even during the best of times. The chemical components of Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer (likely ethanol) dry out my hands even further to the point of serious discomfort. Every glove type I have available at home including nitrile and latex melt when they come into contact with Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer. I have reached out to the manufacturing company and asked a question on this listing for a glove material suggestion to wear, and have never had a response. This leaves me with the choice of doing further damage to my hands each time I use the product, or avoiding one of my favorite hobby-related activities. Neither choice makes me very happy. I would like very much to have a suggestion for a chemically compatible glove material to use in the future. Thanks for reading my review. I hope this has been helpful to you in some way, and you will kindly click the button below.

Cleans paint brushes easily
I wish I had known about this years ago. When I finish painting I don’t feel like cleaning brushes. I just wipe off excess paint and stick the brush in the solvent and clean later. I love this!

Do not soak, very powerful solvent
This works wonderfully, but please do not leave your brushes (especially synthetic) in the solution for longer than a minute, tops. Take a small amount, about two fingers, in a glass jar and swizzle the dried brush into it. Dunk it in water every 30 seconds to a minute to see the progress. For a fully harded paintbrush it will take a max of a few minutes of this. If you're not aware, acrylic paint is a kind of plastic and so are synthetic bristles. This will dissolve the acrylic paint but if you let it sit it will eventually work on the bristles too. It isn't quite as strong to have that take less than 20-40 minutes, so you'll have plenty of working time. People who've ruined their brushes have probably soaked too long and underestimated the power of the solvent. This works amazingly if you're rational and cautious about it and remain aware of the strength of the solvent. I had a brush frozen solid with paint and it is like new again. 100% recommend. Fumes are fairly minimal but remember your high school lab safety and don't shove your nose in the glass or anything, it does have a bit of a smell. Might be worth noting it is also hydrophobic so when you rinse you will need to rinse well. A gentle soap wouldn't hurt if you're really worried but running water was enough for my brushes.

Good product
This is the best product for restoring paint brushes and even for getting marks out of tough areas.

Good quality brush restorer
This stuff really works. When used on paintbrushes, it breaks down old hard paint and softens up the bristles; it's also useful for removing old hard paint from the necks of paint bottles / lids / tubes, but be careful not to get it inside the paint pot or it will ruin the paint inside. It also removes the paint from the handles of paintbrushes, so be careful. I've also used it to remove paint from old figurines I painted when I was a kid so that I can repaint them and make them look better - note that you will also need a toothbrush to assist with cleaning minis. The type of paint or varnish used will determine how long it takes to get a good result. After using the brush cleaner, remember to clean the item with soapy water to remove any residue. It's not made from magic; the effect isn't instant and there's a bit of work to do, especially when it comes to cleaning up old kits, but it does work if you're patient and use it properly. As with any product, test it on something first before you submerge your best brush or miniature into it.
