Engineering issues - but good fan.

So our Westinghouse fan in our bedroom of 10 years finally stopped spinning. 10 years - a good run. So believing in the brand, we ordered this one. Some ups and downs. Yes - beautiful fan. Not sure if anyone else had this issue or not, but our light bar looked like it was painted by our two year old son by hand. Horrible and unacceptable finish. I'm working with the seller (Del Mar Designs) to swap out for another light bar as this one is bad off. It works - but the finish is horrible - it's literally painted and badly at that. The rest of the fan's finish is perfect. Three (3) engineering issues. First - The rubber ring that goes around the top cap (the hanging pole runs through it) - it is so tight that when you go to slide the ring down to its resting position, it pops out every time. And of course with a tolerance that tight, you cannot re-install it at that point. You have to take it back off and try again. I literally had to get the ring and the pole wet (damp) to make it slide down without popping out. Not a huge issue but was annoying. Second - neither the bottom cap nor the light assembly would line up with the holes in the body when the cutout was placed where it belonged (under the Westinghouse plastic badge). The screw holes were off by 2/3 of an inch. That's just bad engineering right there. Oversight in QA or something. I had to remove the badge to make the light assembly fit, then cut the plastic prongs on the back of the badge to make it fit back on once the light assembly was in place. I tested with the cap (no light) - and it had the same issue. The cap nor the light will seat unless the cutout is under the badge. Third - Nice satin finish and they provide a chrome (not satin) plastic ring to cover the holes in the ceiling hanger cover. And.... it sticks on (upside down) with 3 small pieces of double sided tape. Hoping it doesn't fall off in the coming years. Would it really have been that hard to include a satin finish ring that snapped in to the holes? For the price (160), a quality ring was expected, but not delivered. All said and done - it's a nice fan. My recommendation is to assemble it entirely on the ground, then hang it in the holder on the ceiling when ready to wire it up. Wire it while hanging and install the cover. Don't be "that guy" or "that gal" and get yourself shocked. Make sure the wall switch is off if you have one. If you do not have a wall switch, kill the circuit breaker. Safety first folks. That's it, you're done. Working overhead is no fun. This fan is tough enough to be assembled on the ground. (Carpet, the bed, where ever you have a soft surface as to not scratch it up.) Put the whole thing together and then attach the fan blades to the arms last. Keeps them out of your way while you assemble the rest of the fan and light. (I only recommend this if you're assembling it on the ground.) Noise? Ours is not as quiet as others have mentioned - but not noisy enough to annoy us. No louder than our old one anyway. To be fair, we use a sliding switch with it to control the speed - and I notice those cause the motor to be a little louder on all of our fans in the house. The air movement is great, the lighting is ok. The spots are very bright but limit the light to the area you aim it at. Also be careful when adjusting the lights. Depending on where you aim them - you'll be blinded by a spot when you walk in the room. A hazard with any light of this type I imagine. And yes, this fan included the light bulbs. We may search for another type of bulb that fits this socket and fixture that provides more of a warm glow than a spot. But they'll work for now. So in short - get past the shoddy engineering (manufacturing?) and get it on the ceiling, it's a nice looking, well working fan. Hopefully it lasts 10 years like our last Westinghouse. An update on the light fixture. Del Mar Designs was EXCELLENT! They contacted Westinghouse who in turn sent us another light assembly. The finish was much more acceptable on the new one. Thank you Del Mar for being an excellent seller!

Looks great, doesn’t feel great

Fan looks great up, love the lights but you won’t feel anything from the fan itself. Normal 8’ ceiling, small living room and can barely feel anything from this fan. Total waste of money!!! I would have done better getting a cheaper fan, they actually work properly.

Second time the charm..nice fan.

The media could not be loaded. The first one I bought had a rattling in it. I had to take it apart to find out what it was to no avail. I returned the first one and I hope the second one will be better. It is a great looking fan and well constructed, but whatever was rattling in the main motor caused me concern. They are sending a replacement. I will follow up this review with an update. Update: 11/30/17 Amazon graciously replaced the fan at not charge to me. Returned the defective one as mention above. Moved my star rating to a 4/5 for that. Fan installed perfectly. No more rattle. Manual could be better in showing flush mount vs. pole mount. They can contact me for more info on that. Some items in the manual is out of sequence. But, great fan. Bright light. Well constructed. Suggestion to those who install this great fan: Cover all vents on top of base unit to prevent any screws from falling into fan base. It almost happened in this install but I caught it in time. the vests have a fine mesh-like material to prevent dust etc., from entering the unit. Cover the vents with painter's tape as to not soil the nice polished finish.

Exactly what I was looking for! Modern, yet classy! Beautiful!

This is a beautiful fan! It's modern, yet very classy in my master bedroom. I'm a bit strange and kinda like a noisy fan for the white noise, but this fan is whisper quiet. It doesn't push out quite as much air as I thought it would, but that could be because of the size of my master bedroom (16' x 13'). My husband thinks it blows out more than enough air, so it's just a matter of personal preference. I just love the way this fan looks in my bedroom. The accents match my decor beautifully. I don't use the lights on the fan too much because I have lamps that I use in my bedroom instead, however, I do like how I can point the lights in different directions (on a piece of art, on the bed headboard, etc). I searched high and low and this was the best looking fan for the price. Very happy with my purchase! I just purchased a second one for my daughter's room. It blows more than enough air in her room (12'x10'). In the winter, the low setting is enough to circulate the air to keep her room comfortable. I put it on the second highest setting when the temperatures start to get warmer and that's more than enough to keep her cool. It's a great fan for the price! You will not be disappointed!

Great fan for an office

Just installed it today. Cannot comment on longevity but the fan is just what I wanted. It has pull chains which is what I wanted. It was installed in a newly built house so I had the extra wire and a fan worthy box already installed and it is on a nine foot flat ceiling so no need for a remote that needs batteries and is subject to loss. It is for a bedroom that is being used for an office so I wanted a lot of light and the option of pointing that light where I needed it most. I had a fan similar to this in my last house and I knew I would not want the halogens that came with it. They get too hot and burn out after a month or two. I ordered 5 watt 5000k daylight 90 deg. angle GU-10 led's that work great and put out enough light to illuminate the whole room which is 12 x 13. After opening the box and checking the contents, the install took 2 hours (wiring and box already present). The instructions were clear and accurate. Follow them and you should have no problems. All parts were there. The fan runs smooth/balanced and quiet even at high speed. I used the gray side of the fan blades to match my room. Overall if this is your style of fan, it is a great choice.

We love it!!!

The media could not be loaded. What can we say …. we love the looks of it, we love the quality, we love the features, we love the light it emits, we love how quiet it is, we love that we can set the direction of each light, we just love it and would recommend it. Only thing negative is some of the screws r quite small and with adult larger fingers like my husband he kept dropping them and had trouble in tight spots getting them to catch and screw in.
