You can read the rest of my review if you like, but it would be a waste of your time,( just as much as buying and installing one of these pumps is) if your looking for praise or reassurance that this may be a good product !! It is not !! The second pump I received is noisier than the first right out of the box and can't even produce 60PSI right at the discharge port of the pump. Forget about what you might get at the entry point of your home !! Even if it's only 10 ft. away it is unlikely to be 50 PSI. The second pump I got will build 58 PSI at the discharge point after it runs for 10 mins. If I were dumb enough to let it. All that's doing is running up my electric bill and wearing out the cheap Chinese motor thats on it. JUNK !! Made in the USA... WITH CHINA PARTS !!! It may very well be assembled here in the USA, but probably with illegal immigrants. This is not worth my time time to install a 3rd one, only to worry if I will have running water when I wake up in the morning everytime I go to bed. I am pleased that Amazon is the retailer they are and have a 30 day return policy no matter what, as now I am sending BOTH pumps back. I really hate to do this to Amazon. It's not their fault Wayne builds such junk, but maybe they won't sell anymore of their junk pumps if they get enough of them back !! Wayne plastering "Made in the USA" all over the box is an embarrassment to American manufacturing. To have other countries think that this is the type of product our manufacturing industry, ( what's left of it anyway) produces upsets me and is why we as a country have become a "Use it once and throw it away society". Maybe someone at Wayne will read this and maybe think about not using cheap Chinese ANYTHING and build it all here in the USA !! As far as I'm concerned your doing nothing but putting more junk out on the market for citizens to waste their time and money on. My time in this case, (thanks to Amazon not my money) as it's going to go toward a new Red Lion pump and my old one being rebuilt and then saved for a second well. That well is going to be for landscape irrigation and as a back up water supply for the house. Bottom line IT'S A ONE STAR PRODUCT and don't buy it !!! As much as I had planned on giving this product a 5 star review after installing it initially, after it being in use for about a week I can not do so in good faith. Now don't get me wrong, this is a good pump. Just not "great" as so many reviews claim it to be, but good. The first few days after it being in use I was really impressed and couldn't believe it's performance with it being such an affordable price. Over $100.00 less than a new pump of the same make and model of what I had. Which was a Red Lion that had been put thru Hell over the course of 14 years. As it was getting weak toward the end, the motor still runs like it did the day it was new, just the inner working parts of the pump wore out. Not so with this brand new Wayne pump I have now. I am hoping that I may have just gotten a "bad one" as the motor went from being very smooth and quiet to sounding like it has marbles for bearings lubricated with sand. I called Wayne customer support and they were excellent to deal with and told me just to contact Amazon and ask for a replacement since it has been less than 30 days since I purchased it. I did so, and they are sending me out another pump with one day shipping at no charge to me !!! That is customer service !!! I can then box up the defective unit and send it back. Even bigger bonus due to it's the only water pump I have supplying water to my house !! Even though I may have just gotten a lemon made with parts from China, I don't feel this is a 5 star product. It does not produce the volume or pressure other 1HP shallow well pumps available are capable of and they cost not a great deal more. The Red Lion as one example. The first few days it was producing over 10 GPM at nearly 70 PSI. Within the last few days it has dropped off considerably and can barely hit 60 PSI. I have had to adjust my low water safety pressure switch I have in the house next to the pressure tank twice now because of this. Nothing has changed with my water source or configuration, gotten better if anything as the water table has risen in the same time since it's performance has decreased. That could just be the motor failing, but the overall quality gives me the impression it will be the same with the replacement pump also. Hopefuly just with out the obnoxious noise from the motor though. Which is fine with me if it does as I found an overhaul kit for my Red Lion pump and have it on it's way to me now, and the Wayne will be used until I have it up and running as my main water delivery pump. After that the Wayne will be set aside as a back up pump or for a completely separate shallow well used only for landscaping irrigation I plan on doing. For the price it is an outstanding pump, and with a 3 year warrantee it's an even bigger value. Just don't expect it to last 1 day longer than the day the warrantee is up, if even that long. So if you don't mind playing well digger/plummer down in the well house with all the mucky sand and bugs, or don't mind not having running water to your house while you wait for a replacement, go for it and buy this pump. At the current price you should buy two of them.

Does the trick! Excellent shallow well pump.

I'm using the pump to heat my 4,000 gal above ground swimming pool. Pumps the water into tankless water heater then out to the pool...I was using a Wayne 1/2 hp pump but needed to get more water so my gas bill not so high and the one horse does the trick. I used the 1/2 horse for several years without any problems. It's a very good pump.

Sometime deffective items come from manufactures, just basic mistakes.

I bought a brand new starer for car from Autozone and had to get a replacement,then it worked. I was wanting another one just like what the shallow well jet pump. Which maybe the reason. was not trying to get refund just another pump. They have great reviews.

Almost perfect

I have a very shallow well for my livestock where the water level is 8 1/2 ft below ground. I placed the pump in a pit 4 ft below ground level to protect against freezing. I primed the pump and it quickly pumped the water. The water blasts out of the frost free hydrant. I had researched pumps and compared gallons per minute. While I remember finding another 1/2 hp pump that had a higher gpm flow, this Wayne pump is more than enough for my needs. The instruction manual (which also can be found online) is 12 pages. The pump did not come with an electrical plug so I had to wire one on the pump. The instruction manual gives recommendations on how to hook up the wire, and the wire size which depends on 115/230 volts and the distance from the pump to the meter. The reason I knocked one star off my rating: the pressure switch. I believe the pressure switch on/off is shipped at 30/50 lbs. It can be adjusted up to 5 lbs with 2 screws. Not too intuitive; I had to consult the instruction manual. I didn't find anything on adjusting the pressure switch. I had to try different screw settings. I have a pressure tank and I had hoped to adjust the on setting down by 5 lbs and the off setting up by 5 lbs to increase the range and reduce the times the pump would cycle on and off. Doesn't seem possible. It's been some months since I set the pump up but I believe the range stayed the same, the on/off is adjusted up to 5 lbs in lockstep. My suggestion to the manufacturer is to add instructions on adjusting the pressure switch. Otherwise the setup was fairly quick and easy.

Our pump was defective and seller has not been back in contact with us

We ordered this pump because it was the same brand and specs as the one we've had in our well house for over 20 years. Once we had it, we called our professional to install it. Like most people these days, it took a while for it to be our turn on his list of clients. When he came out to install it, the switching out of the pump (and new tank we purchased separately) went well. However, after many more hours it was determined by him that the pump we received had a slow leak, which was coming from inside, in the internal structures, probably something wasn't tightened enough or too much at the factory. Of course, we cannot put the old one back in until a new one comes at this point. But there is a constant slow leak and not only is our pump house getting wet, but it's also affecting the pressure switch, etc. I reached out to the company who sold us this pump right away, but it's been weeks now and I haven't gotten a response. So BEWARE! My next step will be trying to do directly to Wayne.

Buy this one!

Bought this one to replace a Red Lion unit that croaked after less than a year. This is quieter, and will build more pressure quicker than our Red Lion unit did. Highly recommend

I have only used the pump for 3 days and it works great. there was no access hole to screw a pressure gauge in to it.
