Good trap
Trap is very effective on animals like red squirrels and smaller. I don’t know if it would work on a big squirrel or not but they were very effective on rodents when baited with peanut butter. One thing to note is there is a more sensitive side and less sensitive side on the pedal/trigger. I would recommend for anyone not afraid to use these snap type traps

Killed two rats and a mouse in one week, haven't heard rodent since
Look if you're here because you heard or saw rats, this is the product for you. I bought these and put a small piece of slim-jims dipped in peanut butter together to create my traps. My first rat I caught the first day I put four of these out, was a clean kill, snap of the neck and easy to remove from the trap. I was able to reset the slim-jim bait no issue. The second rat for some reason was much harder to get. The rat set off THREE traps in one night before finally dying. I know this because I woke up when it set off the first, (top left in image) heard it set off the second,(bottom left in image) half an hour later it was dead on the third (bottom right). By that point it was a bloody mess, and I just threw the third whole trap away, cleaned the large amount of blood and reset the first two. Highly recommend using slim Jim dipped in peanut butter and hooking it on the arrow in the middle of the trap. If this second rat found this bait so irresistible it was willing to set off 3 traps in a half hour window, then chances are your rats will also find it irresistible. Finally the mouse was a surprise, the first two were definitely large rats, the mouse died on the one trap I put near my water heater. I put out the rat trap and was worried that it wouldn't be sensitive enough to catch/kill a mouse, but not even 3 hours after I set the trap a mouse had died to it, though the force was so great the head was nearly taken off.

They are actually really good
It took only 1 hour to kill the first rat. It is a good product, just be careful with your fingers when setting it up ????

7” x 3 3/4” - Heavy Duty and Strong Spring
Along with the move to rural Texas came a host of vermin who wanted to take up residence in my shop and home. After encountering a rat squatter in my shop I went looking for the largest name brand mouse/rat traps I could find and decided on these Victor traps. These are the same style traps that pest removal companies use, my fixer-upper home came with an identical lookin Orkin branded trap in the added, with a mummified squirrel along with it. These type traps have been around forever and work. Setting them is not difficult and they can be used with or without bait. Peanut butter is a go to bait as mice and rats like it, it’s cheap, and sticks to the trigger plate making it less likely the varmint will make off with the bait untouched. The trap measures just under 7” long by 3 3/4” wide and the wood base is 1/2” thick. The wood base is untreated so if left out in the rain the wood would be damaged and the metal spring would rust. That’s about all I can say about a rat ???? trap ????. PS: I don’t enjoy eradicating these creatures, but they are super destructive and leave messes everywhere.

They work but very difficult to set. Snaps very easily and really bruised our fingers! ????

WITHIN 5 MIN CAUGHT MOUSE
This is a extremely strong trap, be very careful setting this. If you are unfamiliar with baiting and setting this type of trap YouTube the correct way before doing anything. DO NOT, place these where children can get to them as they might lose a finger or even break their hand. Also just a sidenote tell your spouse or whoever is living with you where you place these. I can just imagine reaching under the sink and *SNAP*. I used peanut butter and caught a mouse within 5 MIN of setting in kitchen. This could easily catch small mice to larger rats/rodents which is quite versitile. There's a reason this design has been around for so long... It works!

Caught it but it survived
First off I had trouble figuring out how to set the trap properly to kill. So the rodent would take the bait. Not a problem tho ultimately cause it makes the rodent feel comfortable with the trap. And once the trap is set to kill it will kill the desensitized rodent. Unfortunately, I guess I got a size too big because when I set the trap correctly, it caught the rodent but it survived. My kindhearted husband was awake and heard it screaming and crying, and thus my husband took some tools to rescue the pitiful rodent. I awake to a trap undone and an alive rodent in a bucket. It’s fine I guess. It was pinned down with arm and head but since it was so small and maybe because I put too much cheese on the bait, it survived but was trapped. Now I am going to have to release the rodent somewhere because my husband saved the rodent and even fed it inside its bucket enclosure…. I give it 3/5 stars because it trapped the rodent but didn’t kill it. I rather it be killed instantly than my softie husband save it. I don’t want to be the bad guy and kill it now after my husband took the time to rescue it, even though he knew my plans of killing the creature with the trap. Geez. I guess this little guy gets a second chance. I wish there was some sizing chart to see if the mouse trap or rat trap would have worked better. I though it was a rat. Either it’s a rather small rat or a very big mouse. But it’s tail is huge so I think it’s probably a small rat. Little guy is lucky my husband found him first…I’m peeved there was no instant death by the victor rat trap but I guess it’s okay. My husband would have been upset by its death even though the little guy has been a terror the past few months….. I’m keeping the rest of the traps up just in case the little guy had some friends. The original trap is no rendered useless because my kind-hearted husband dismantled it to rescue the little guy. You get one chance tho little rat. We are setting you free deep somewhere in the woods. You may not be so lucky next time.

Simple, reliable and effective
Victor has been making this trap for many years because it works. This trap stays set until tripped by the rodent and then works reliably to snap and hopefully get a rat.

Brutally effective, kinder than poison & not as cruel & barbaric as glue traps
Never used one before but the electric one just made Welsh Rabbit and Satay....not rat flavoured either. This was an adventure as being a complete novice with these devices I was surprised how little is required to set one off and it felt so precarious handling an armed one. So...when...after a little tweaking with pliers, I managed to set one and did a dry run with a cane (with no visits to A&E as well which given the way the things work is feasible if you aren't too careful) I almost crapped myself when it went off. Almost feel sorry for Ronnie the rat who's took up residence under our shed. Sadly we got all festive and it just seemed a bit callous setting it over Christmas (goodwill an all that), however the armistice came to an abrupt end after Ronnie tried breaking into the cavity wall so Operation Skaven commenced in earnest. I'm told peanut butter is best (never worked with the electric one mind) & after a terrifying moment when I was placing one and had to put my thumb the wrong place to get it in the said place we awaited with baited breath (no pun intended). You do feel like a Tudor sapper placing a gunpowder charge on a fortress gate, they are a bit scary whilst placing armed. Suffice to say Ronnie got it in the neck and it's not a pretty sight and was even more dire removing Ronnie with the clean-up duty that followed. They are not as straight forward to use as the instructions say and they seem not really destined for being all that weatherproof so inside or covered is advisable. These would easily severely injure a child or pet (especially your pet rat) so be careful and don't do what I did and place one only to find you need something off the back wall shelf of your shed and tip toe near one.

THE best and simplest trap.
I hate rats. I love these traps. I don't even bother baiting - it seems to make them smell a rat! THE most successful trap and I have tried all the glitzier ones too. Open and set with plastic (or garden gloves) which have been used already - the grubbier the better. Otherwise your human smell is all over it and it will be weeks before they go near it. Similarly, do not clean the trap after you have caught one. Just release the dead rat into a plastic bag (double bag! The stink very quickly) and re-set in same spot as it is, asap - the trap needs to be part of their regular terrain for most effective campaign.

Victor M205 (not M205R) rat trap.
As said in other reviews get the M205 not the M205R. Even the M205 spring tends to bend after 7 or 8 goes so get the 12 pack. You'll see the paths the rodents make. I've found putting 2 traps together side-by-side with springs in opposing orientations across the run works. Put loads down and you'll get them. No bait required. I've taken over 40 out in the past week alone. Very effective traps.

This works, don't buy anything else. Bait correctly.
This works. This is the original and best. I bought this after the yellow plastic tray traps didn't work. Bend the metal "V" peg up 30 degrees and using a screw, bore a tiny hole into an almond and push it onto the peg. You can scrape the skin off one side to release the scent before fixing too, if you want. The first night we had a result. Instant, humane and a solution to the problem.

Simplest and effective trap
Simple to set up and place with bait and very effective compared to more expensive plastic traps..seem to be in short supply!
