Not as good as I hoped

I bought this fan since the tent we bought didn't have a rain fly and we where hoping it would help move the air. In short, it didn't! Con's: 1 It's flimsy! I expected MUCH better quality and durability from Coleman. This fan is all plastic and foam with the exception of the large (and heavy) magnet. I'm afraid to let me kids handle it for fear they will break it or drop it. 2 The fan is noisy! OMG, for as light as it is, I was shocked at how noisy it is! I guess the good thing is it might scare the big mean animals away... 3 In a large tent (we had it in an 8 man tent) it is almost useless as a fan. the only way to feel any air flow was to be directly under it, and even then we didn't feel much airflow when it was on high. In a smaller tent it *might* be more useful.... 4 The magnet and steel 'mount' could use a little more...refinement IMHO. I do not like how rough the magnet is; however, the steel back piece is nicely smoothed. Since I don't have a rain-fly, any small scratch that this thing might make is a BIG deal for us! I especial don't like that the instructions tell you to twist the magnet and steel piece to remove it from the tent. I wish they had at least put a smooth plastic coating over the magnet. *Something* to help safe guard the tent!! Pro's: 1 It has two LED light levels. Even in a big 8 man tent the high setting was enough for us to see most of what we needed to see. It also has a low setting that is an amber colored light (night light?). 2 It does not *have* to use the magnet/steel mount. Their is a clip built into the base of the fan that can be used without the magnet if your tent has roof mounts (light/utility loops/hooks). This is how we used it. If I had found this in a brick and mortar store where I could have felt/seen how flimsy it was, I never would have bought this fan. There are many purpose built tent lights that would have served us better than this fan/light did.

Great Little Fan for It's Intended Use!

I always appreciate reading reviews before I buy something, so thanks to all of you who take the time. These reviews really help level set expectations and gives good insight into a products performance. It's what usually makes the difference for me in buy vs don't buy. Just read them all with a "grain of salt". I just bought this fan for a camping trip. No problems, it worked great. I used a large carabiner to attach it to the hoop on the ceiling of my Eureka Sunrise 9 (9x9 tent with 6 foot ceiling). This tent is classified as a 4 man tent and the fan did a nice job of circulating the air, especially on high. The separate 2 mode light is a nice touch with either an intimate single yellow glow LED or 4 white LEDs for a brighter light that was sufficient to illuminate the tent. lt's important to have proper expectations for the performance of this fan. Don't expect near the performance of an electric fan but as battery operated fans go it is a little more powerful than other battery operated fans and does a nice job generating some air movement. I would certainly recommend this fan for its intended use which for me was avoiding stagnant, hot and stuffy air in my tent. Cool breeze...for the price you can't beat it. Go for it!

It was very helpful for our trip as my 8 years old is always hot and likes some cool air while sleeping. The Fan comes with a strong magnet that goes on the outside of the tent and the hook part for the inside. Then you attach the Fan onto that. Or you can just attach it to the loops of your tent. The magnet that holds the fan in place is VERY strong, it allows you to position fan where you need it. Had no problems with it staying in place for 3 days and 2 nights of our trip.. The fan blades are made out of a soft foam. This is a BIG plus with curious kids. Definitely will mark fan and lights controls with glow in the dark paint for future uses. Don't know if it will last, but when you want your kids finally go to sleep it is worth buying this Fan even for one trip. Good for what it does - move air

I'm waiting to see if this product fails as others have said with subsequent use, but after nearly a full week of sporadic use, I think this fan is worth the price. You need to use common sense to realize a fan (not air conditioner) this size won't do much more than circulate air in a large tent. That said, we used it to keep air flow moving in our 18x10 tent and it worked just fine. On one of the hottest days of the trip (high 80s) we moved it over one cot to blow right on the cot for naps. It took the stuffiness out of the air and actually cooled enough to eliminate sweating. We noticed a little more noise the last night of the trip, but it was hanging at an angle. We moved it and it quieted down. Yes, it's plastic, Yes, it's small. Yes, the switches move easily and can get knocked on if stored with other items. If you don't expect miracles this fan can be a big help in many small ways.

This is a good fan , if you have kids the white noize from the fan will drown out some of the chipmunk running around and the night light is perfect lighting . I really like the features of this fan I have try other fans but this is still the best. My first one lasted 4 years but it got beet around in travelling Michel

Fragile!

Coleman camping gear is generally pretty strong. This item lasted less than one trip. It fell off of the picnic table while we were setting up and all three struts holding the fan guard to the Centre piece/mechanism snapped. It was useless as a fan but still word as a light as long as we didn't jiggle it too much. I would not buy this again.

Bad light , good fan

If you buy this for a tent light u might be a bit disappointed in the lumens of the LEDs. Not to bright. But the fan is okay.

Breaks easily, just ok otherwise.

It dropped from the ceiling of my tent once and after that it only worked sometimes, very poor quality. The time I did get to use it it was ok, provided a gentle breeze.
