Reads Both Top and Bottom; Swiss Made

I bought this Rhino because it was top read, and bought also the Chinese-made Klein because it was a bottom read. But the Rhino's extendible rule has markings on both sides, making it both a bottom and top reading rule. No need for the Klein. The Rhino is also Swiss made: very high quality. This Rhino is the one I will use.

Works as expected, but the brass extension is very hard to navigate

This folding ruler is easy to read and does what it is supposed to, but the brass extension is very hard to slide in and out, even after applying beeswax. It may loosen up over time. I know the Lufken I had was easy to use out of the package.

Great quality with additional measuring piece

Sometimes when measuring, it's easier to use something that is sturdy and won't bend like some metal measuring tapes. This works extremely well for that purpose. The 6" sliding extension really comes in handy. This is made of wood and thick enough to hold up.

SO good! Throw your tape measure away!

I have no idea why folding rules ever went out of fashion. For measurements under 6 feet, this is head and shoulders above tape measures and the like. You can use it easily with one person, without dealing with a tape that twists, curls, refuses to measure an inside corner, and constantly tries to pull out of your hand. This isn't an old-timey, nostalgic rant about how they don't make 'em like they used to; this is an honestly superior tool. It is simpler, safer, more comfortable, and more accurate...if you're measuring something 6'6" or less, that is. About the tool itself: this is an extremely well-built tool. The high-impact polyethylene construction should last forever, and increment marks are both molded in and painted, for an ideal combination of visibility and durability. The joints are spring-loaded and feature positive stops every 90°, so they can be locked perpendicularly as well as in a straight line. They are very strong, so the sections do not collapse accidentally. They could not be better. The 6 inch extension is a key feature, and allows dead-on accurate inside measurements, even inside dadoes and hard-to reach places. The little slider that extends to make this possible is nicely dovetailed into the rule, and secured with a detent to prevent loss, and to prevent the extension from sliding around freely and losing a measurement. This is a five-star product, from start to finish. If you've never used a folding rules, treat yourself to this one. You'll never go back.

Simple fix for loose extension.

The media could not be loaded. I see that other reviews mention the problem with the sliding extension being very loose in the first 1-1/8 in. I had high hopes for this ruler being made of nylon and fiberglass as that would make it much more stable than wood. I have used folding rules with extensions to take inside measurements to transfer over to my table saw or miter saw without even having to write down the measurement. It is called the two stick method of getting perfect measurements. My old wooden rule has been in my toolbox for about 50 years and was worn out. I needed this new one to work but was frustrated that a the first inch of the extension was unusable. See the video for how I solved the problem.

Super Useful for many things

My grandfather was a shipyard carpenter in NYC. I remember as a kid he had a wooden version of one of these with a brass inset depth measurer. I had to measure the inside dimensions of a number of things for a project and after realizing that a tape measure was less than accurate for inside measurements i remembered my grandfathers tool and realized what that brass slider thing was for...inside measurements! and sure enough ordered this from amazon and it works great. Its all plastic but in a good way. I remember the wood one got worn out and you had to be careful not to flex it too much...this one is very robust. What i have found is that it is kind of my go to measurer now for many things. It is accurate, easy to use and i just simply gravitate to it. Perhaps i am channeling my grandfather!! ANyway it should be part of anyones tool kit.
