Support level 2, not 3
I just received this and can’t comment on its performance yet but do want to alert shoppers that the description may be incorrect. At the time I purchased this item, it was listed in several places as being support level 3, but when it arrived the packaging clearly says support level 2. If this is a factor in your decision about which product is right for you, know you’re getting a moderate support, level 2 product.

Exactly what we needed
My mom was in a car accident in 2013 and had screws placed in her ankle. Over the years, her ankle has gotten stiff and sore and weight bearing has become more difficult. I have nothing bad to say about this product in the stability, comfort, and support areas...all five stars. Where this falls short is in the lacing. Unlike a pair of sneakers, you can't just pull and have everything tighten. No, you need to adjust aglet by aglet, and that is something my 91-year-old mom cannot do. So unless someone is around to help her put it on, she's stuck without it. And as a bit of advice - she wears lady's knee-high hose under it, and once it's laced, we flip the top down over all the lacing. This keeps her pants from rubbing against the lacing and loosening it. Overall, I would buy it again.

Straps would help...solution
If you are stuck with this version rather than the one with the straps like me and you have a thin sleeve support with straps like I do, then you can wear both. I have the Mueller one. I don't think it cost much. It can be worn under or over. I wouldn't of bought this if my sleeve had a sticky bottom to keep it from sliding, so when out I wear my sleeve under. BTW, it still slid with the sticky bottom when I bowled, but just not as much. As for the product, maybe high tops would do about the same thing when you are out as long as the high tops had plenty of cushion. With that said, you can wear this in bed and it goes quite well with my Mueller sleeve with straps. As for my condition, I have not been able to see the doctor yet. I guess if I remember I will edit this with that info. I jammed my ankle bowling, which is something I do quite a bit, but this time it was worse. At the time I didn't think it was worse, but later bowling proved otherwise. It's either a high ankle or cartilage tear or fractured talus or something lol. Maybe you can tell me, so my doctor won't need to MRI me.

Good Support when you need
Decent price and decent product if you've hurt your ankle and need support. The first couple I bought didn't do much but strangely this one and another one work for me. When you twist your ankle and go down, it can be very painful and I'd suggest wearing this for a few weeks, at least up till 6 weeks. I'd also suggest an X-ray just as a precaution. Actually - Dr. said 6 weeks but mine took longer. I think I sprained the ligament. Don't try to climb or go down steps in the dark. I learned my lesson on that. These type braces are a big help. Also base your sizing on the width of your ankle not the length of your foot. I got a large and it fits. Probably could've gotten X-large too but no matter, it fits and it works.

No rigid support and difficult to get on
I bought this brace because I sprained my ankle and the air cast I got at urgent care wasn’t supportive enough on its own and I hate crutches. I bought the large, but probably could’ve gone with the extra large. As other reviewers said I did have to unlace it about half way in order to get it on, but my instep is high and I always have a hard time getting on tight boots/shoes. Like the other reviewers said this is not a rigid brace, it doesn’t have support on the sides. If you need support on the sides I’d suggest getting a different brace. But since I’m wearing it with my air cast I didn’t need the extra rigidity. All and all I’d say it’s an ok product if you need light support, but it’s definitely not a “level 3 support” like the description says

Trade one problem for another
After spraining my ankle, I tried one of those compressive sleeves. It was ok, but I wasn't healing and continually re-injured by simple daily activities. Bought this brace after visiting my orthopedist. A bit bulky and laces are a pain, but it really worked in stabilizing my ankle. It felt like wearing a tight boot all day, but none of the pain I was experiencing previously. After a few days, I was feeling pain in my Achilles' tendon. Looked after it at the end of the day, after removing the brace. I found a large cut and bruise from the opening at the heal of the brace. Don't know if I'm lacing it too tight, or bought the wrong size. Overall, good support, but not very comfortable.

Great Support!
Actually, I purchased this for extra support in the ankle due to tarpal tunnel. It has really stabilized my ankle and made it possible for me to continue working. The laces are great to either tighten or loosen support as needed personally. Packaged in a vinyl envelope, but, arrived as promised. Does not hold a smell (especially being stuck in a shoe all day). Material is very durable.

comfortable brace
I broke my ankle last June and it required 7 pins and 2 plates to repair. I am currently training for a sprint triathlon in July. This is a lifesaver. I feel more confident running with it. It very supportive. My only complaint, which is just my own laziness is that it's a bit too big. I wear size 10 sneakers and I should have ordered a medium instead of a large. My fault for not sending it back. I have it pulled all the way tight but a medium would've been a better fit.

Superb !
Comfortable, easily laced, provides strong protection with a comfortable feel and fits nicely in shoes. If laced snug, unlikely to roll ankle. I have not rolled in a year of using. playing a few games of soccer and ball hockey each week.
