The OG of Vellux
So this blanket reminds me of the original authentic Vellux blankets my family used when I was younger. Excellent quality, very comfortable after its broken in, though if you wash it right after you receive it it probably will be less stiff.

The quality does not compare to original vellux blankets.
One side of the blanket is getting holes in the top layer of the vellux. Not all the way through the blanket but it’s like the vellux has dissolved.

Just a reality nice blanket!
Sizing was great, color as described and it’s soft to boot! Great binky!

Warm blanket
The blanket is exactly as advertised. I have been using thse blankets for over 20 years. They wash well and are durable.

Shrank but does the job
This blanket's label says 100% nylon, no polyester, which gave me confidence after reading mixed reviews. I measured it, then washed it before using, and found it shrank a few inches in both directions. I also noticed a linear stain which seemed to match part of the plastic bag it came in... From the zipper? Also, it shed a bunch of fuzz in the wash. But it is the same insulated, somewhat stiff, blanket I remember vellux was years ago. It works for me.

Love it
I did wash it once just to give it a fresher smell and it did get a little bit more plush and softer after I washed it the first time I will definitely be getting more for guest beds. This is a great layer when it’s cold out. Will have to see how it does when it warmer.

Very warm blanket and lightweight -- but prickly
I really hope this blanket softens as the included instructions say it will. I love the weight, the warmth and how well it washed the first time (didn't baby it, just threw it in the washer on cold delicate and in the dryer on permanent press like the rest of my stuff) and it dried smooth and intact. The reservation I have is this blanket feels prickly to me, as if someone sprayed velvet fabric with a stiffener. I have some sensory issues, but it's definitely not a pleasant texture. When the blanket touches me or I press down I can feel the nap of the fabric, almost as if it's crunchy. Very disconcerting. I will hope it softens up since it's such a good insulating layer without weight. For now it's between the sheet and a top velour blanket, and I keep it tucked low so it doesn't touch my arms or neck because it will wake me right up and have me scratching like I just brushed through nettles. As others have mentioned, I had a Vellux blanket as a child and it was much, much softer to the touch than this one. I will keep this since I don't want to hassle with a return, but here's hoping it softens up. If you're looking for a minky or velour texture, this isn't it right out of the box. Be warned: If you have a pet, don't make this your top cover unless you want to devote your leisure hours to lint rolling. Impressive static light show in the dark. All in all I'm kinda meh on this one. If you're just looking for lightweight warmth as an inner layer it's great, but not for cuddling up in. Edited after more than a year of use to add: The blanket is still somewhat prickly. I have to keep a sheet beneath it and another light blanket atop it so it does not contact my skin, but maybe that's just my sensitivity to texture. Two later developments: This thing is so static ridden that it looks like fireworks are going off in my bedroom if the cat turns over on it. When I try to take the upper blanket off at night when I get warm, first there's a light show then I get a series of tiny electric shocks. Highly recommend you use fabric softener (which I can't) or be aware this would be a great prank for siblings who want to shock each other by rolling around in bed and tagging each other. It's still cozy and warm, but it does have bald spots where it was tucked against the bed frame. For the price point and warmth, it gets applause. Just not for sensory issues (or not-well-grounded sleepers). This turns out to be one of those "best I can afford right now" purchases, but being warm is worth the inconveniences.

Would Not Be Without Original Vellux
I live in a cool climate, but it seldom gets to freezing. In the mid 30's F., I need a second blanket or duvet in addition to the Vellux. It's the perfect weight Spring through early Autumn. I became acquainted with Vellux blankets in my career as a quality auditor for hotels, checking standards, cleanliness and condition of guest rooms. These originals are made of nylon fiber injected through a sheet of reinforced urethane foam. They resist and release soils and stains easily in the wash, they dry far more quickly than cotton, they are light, warm, soft, and durable if cared for properly. They never pill like cotton and polyester do. They do not wear well if abused with high heat and over drying. I dry mine on an apartment clothes rack. I still have two chocolate colored Vellux blankets I have used for over 16 years that show no sign of wear yet. If the label lists polyester at all, then it is NOT an original Vellux blanket and will not perform or wear with the quality attributes of the original Vellux.
