This has six round pins

This was purchased to connect a Blue Ox towed vehicle wiring kit to a Blue Ox tow vehicle to toad umbilical wiring harness. This is described as a flat pin connector where in fact the pins are round. This does accept the Blue Ox 6-pin plug, but it is a very tight fit. Better tight than coming unseated on the road. It was a toss-up on 4-stars because it will have to be painted black for the application, but that would be unfair. Plated is good and this is very sturdy. Five stars it is! Update: This is now installed and working with the Blue OX harness. Rustoleum rubberized undercoat was used to coat the plug black. A wadded up paper towel was stuffed into the vacant housing to prevent the material coating from affecting reassembly or connecting. Rustoleum undercoat is rubberized, so it will last while protecting it from the elements and blend the plug color with the surrounding black area. This install has 5 wires. The main concern was to avoid crossing the negative white wire and positive black wires, causing a dead short. It was simple to make certain. The 7-pin connector of the umbilical harness was plugged into the tow vehicle. The electrical pins element of the Tow Ready was marked with a magic marker, then removed from the barrel housing, and plugged into the Blue Ox harness. With the ignition on and a turn signal activated, the ground wire was obvious. The test light worked for the turn signal. Positive to positive, it would not. The wiring schematic available on line may be a bit confusing because this plug is not attached to the tow vehicle. It is attached to the toad and the schematic is reversed. If you have the most common wiring, the center pin is not used because it is for electric brakes, but not always so use caution. For our application, starting at the top pin with the groove going clockwise: Center pin-vacant for trailer brakes; top in, BROWN for tail lights; 2 o' clock, BLACK for battery tender or alternate power to the toad that is totally isolated from the toad electrical system; 5 o'clock, GREEN for right brake/turn signal; 7 o'clock, YELLOW for left brake/turn signal; 10 o'clock, WHITE neutral/ground wire. At times, the center pin may be the positive and the 2 o'clock may be the electric brakes.

Much better than the plastic ones!

A nice upgrade from the cheaply-made plastic ones. Screws are very tiny and strip easily, so be careful when tightening.

Jeep jk flat towing.

Worked great. Used for a hook up for the front bumper of a Jeep jk for flat towing.

Works well with Blue Ox baseplates

A sturdy 6 pin connector that works well with my Blue Ox base plate; perfect fit. More solid than the plastic ones. The harness fits snug and the cap helps hold it in place. Good value, recommended.

Cheap

This little Tow Ready unit was a mild disappointment. I say "Mild" because I got what I paid for. Having re-wired a few trailer hook-up before with no issues using different brand, I found the design of this one awkward to work with. The screws are tiny. And CHEAP! After I stripped the first screw, I thought that maybe that was my own fault and was not paying attention. But when I stripped the second screw, I knew I should have spent a little more money.... If you are good with a soldering iron and want to save a few bucks, this is unit for you.

does the job perfectly

Needed for tow bar hookup between rv & car. base plate on car made to accept this receptacle mounting holes perfectly match each other. Had to paint flat black to not show up in grille of car, could have bought black plastic but wanted quality of metal. I used a blue ox base plate on car.
