Best $8 I ever spent
This is a very nice littler bright light, if you have big hands only your first three finger will fit on the handle. I wish the handle was longer and not open ended, I can see it slipping out of my hand if i don't pay attention. The handle is hard plastic so it can be slippery if your hands are wet or cold, I plan to warp the handle with cloth tape this will help and to somehow attach a wrist strap. There was no sticker on the lens as reported in the past, someone was listening to those comments. Four AA batteries are included with the light, which is nice so can use it straight away. The light is the size of a Foster's beer can [short and fat] but a inch or two taller. I was surprised when I unpacked it, I was thinking I was going to get a light similar to a 6 volt hand help light. This light with batteries is very light , easily less than half the with of a 6 V battery. I have a 6V 3-LED $5 flood light I picked up at Lowe's or Homepot. Its heavy but it puts out a nice spot light and has out lasted two battery changes of the standard 6 V flood I also own. But this 9-LED light put that to shame, lighter and much brighter and only a few dollars more. Since this light is light in weight I'm planning to order more and give them to my mother and aunt, the are up in years and have complained about the new LED flashlights being to heavy or to tiny to use. The both like the whiteness of the LED lights but hate the size or weight. This is a perfect size for them both, it will make i nice stocking stuffer, also it has a big button so that's makes it easy to push on/off. This is a spot light more than a flood light, but with an extra illumination phase. It has an interesting light pattern, when you turn it on [dark room or out side] you get the white spot light in the middle and best way to describe it is and halo or aura surrounding the spot light. Its doesn't give the normal even spread of light you'd get from a normal flood lights. I tried this a few minutes ago to help me describe the light pattern and size this little light outputs. At ten feet with the light shinning on a brick wall outside you get a ~2' of very white light and ~12' of aura light, which is bright enough to see most everything else. This would be very useful walking at night, the spot is your focus point the aura lights the rest well enough not to trip over something. Someone wrote about placing the light on a table pointed up, so I tried it and it does work very well and it put out enough light to make dinner the night the lights died and see our food as we ate. Great alternative to candles and way safer. BTW, the wife likes it, not much impresses her. Update: Since the east coast storm Sandy passed by us a few days ago we along with a few thousand neighbors lost power so this light got a full test. Now I was using it as a normal flashlight and it does light up an area well but I still was surrounded by darkness. So for the heck of it I pointed the beam straight up at the ceiling while I was walking around. As mention earlier with the beam pointing up the light does give an umbrella effect with the light output. Pointing the light upward lit up a 7-10 foot area around me and it made walking in the dark a breeze. I was now able to look at the floor and see things I know I may have missed if i was using this flashlight as normal. It worked so well in the up position we put out all of the candles and just used these lights to light up a room. We even sat around it and played cards, it gave off that much light. I tried this same up-pointing with other flash lights and did not get the same wide covering effect as this flash light did. I don't feel like I'm walking in a dark room anymore.

Great Light, not so great batteries.
The light works great after we put in our rechargeable batteries, but the batteries that came with the product were slightly crushed and leaking. I don't know when the crushing of the batteries happened (mostly likely during delivery), but it's a Great Light over all..

Nice light
Like someone else said putting the batteries in was a little confusing but take your time and look at the diagram on the inside of the lid of the light and it works great nice and bright. I like it alot

A bit tricky to assemble
All you need to do is drop the batteries into cylinders in the base and then screw on the top. Sounds easy as can be, but it was tricky. First, the batters need to be inserted in the correct orientations (positive versus negative polarity), and it was not obvious what the orientations should be. Then the head plate must be properly aligned with the batteries in the base. At one point I was ready to throw it out, but I persisted and eventually got it right. Once properly assembled the lantern works very well.

Bright
Lightweight, bright light, smaller than expected but no big deal. Heads-up, couldn't get it to work but switched out the batteries that came with it, worked fine after that.

Visible fuses in house, safe walking.
Have you maintained plug-in type fuses? You likely know the practical help from light which covers the subject. I find more than sufficient light to reveal details. And I like how this 'fits just right' in my hand, it's light & easy to manage. Apparantly the dynamics of multiple light bulbs working effectively together along with the overall design were thought through. Dorcy worked out a secure method of holding each battery in it's own plastic tube. Tubes encircle to about 1/8" of closing around, ie. a gap, but they get the job done. The electrical contacts which press down upon those four AA batteries (on springs) are fixed to a fairly square and thick mounting plate which holds a steady position due to flanges molded into the inner case. Then of course, the head gets turned down until firmly in place; the head swiveled on a center shaft connected to that substantial looking mounting plate. As you can tell, I can get somewhat fascinated by how something is constructed. So the main refreshing change of pace about this flashlight for me, is that it funtions every time I press the button, and feels not susceptible to that looseness and slipping around of batteries I've experienced (I'm 57 years of age) inside the older version flashlights; perhaps you know what I mean about having to shake a flashlight to regain an effective electrical circuit. My residence has steps from a room (former garage) to kitchen and from large living area to hallway however, as you may imagine, there are lots of things I want & need to see wherever I walk whether interior or exterior. This house lacks an ideal built-in lighting plan that a modern house may likely have (my lack of action, but that's another subject). At night, after having "called it a night" along with my turning off the interior house lights, I see plenty of light, mostly due to a concentrated beam emitting from it to assist my moving around safely. Also, I tried setting it upright, it does stand up nicely, and the light reflected off the ceiling (about 9 1/2 foot) bathes the entire area plainly enough for me to manuever my pathways safely enough anywhere around this approximately 24 X 24 foot room along with some adjoining areas of open passage. I purchased two of these and found one of red color, the other yellow; I especially like how easy it is to notice the whereabouts of the yellow item but I'm grateful to place both of these within handy reach. They arrived only yesterday. I hope to use these flahlights often over the course of a year (product warranted time frame) and whatever I find about reliability, I want to add an update here. I think that according to how well it continues to function, it would be fair and right to bring my four star rating up to five, at that season.

Great bang for your buck!
Sure the handle could be a tad bigger, it could have a hole for a lanyard for hanging and slipping your hand through, but for the dollar it is simple to power, turn on and off, I can drop it and it still works, and it throws a very generous beam of light. And if I clumsily, or otherwise, drop it overboard, I won't cry myself to sleep. Affordably priced, durable and very effective. I have three on board.
