Item as described and pictured
Product circuit board was defective. No fault of the seller. It was diagnosed by Tjernlund tech support and they promptly sent out a new board. I would buy it again.

Works, but install can be a headache depending on your furnace
I cannot get this to work with my furnace. I called their tech support line and after explaining my issues in major detail, I was met with a very rude and unhelpful "guy" that literally told me "I have to move on to my next call" and "your system is very complicated" and immediately became defensive, stating that their system is FINE and nothing wrong with it, etc. etc. etc. but actually tech support could not figure out what was wrong either...."it's too complicated" Complicated to me, yes, but it's a simple natural gas forced air furnace with a 24vac gas valve, single zone, no other bells/whistles AND NO LABELS!. Yet, it's just too complicated to deal with, too much to think about, let's just forget it. When a company refuses to help you and quickly releases you into the depths of the unknown, it really leaves a bad taste. I called an HVAC contractor and they are far more helpful. Apparently if you do not have a brand new furnace you'll have to deal with the harsh attitudes of the elite customer service technicians at Tjernlund, who remain silent when asked a question and get overwhelmed when you tell them the whole story. I guess even an amateur with no experience with HVAC can confuse them. Everyone says "call their customer service, they are great!" well not so much. If the guy had as much knowledge as his inflated ego, he'd easily be the modern day einstein. In the middle of me explaining, I get the response - "well, obviously something isn't right, but I don't know what it would be".....apparently not. Hopefully the next caller has heat because I do not at this point. UPDATE: The thing works, after fighting with customer service and asking to speak with their supervisor, they finally helped. This is an excellent solution to more expensive models. I think the key is to mount this thing as far away from the furnace as possible, otherwise you will burn it up. I have it mounted about 30 ft downpipe from my furnace and it has worked great overall, aside from the major attitudes of customer service.

Out of balance & vibrates, therefore loud. I would buy a different brand.
This is the 3rd Tjernlund venter I've had in my current house. The one that was installed when I bought the 17-year old house ran well and was reasonably quiet. The motor seized after so many years of service, thus I had the venter replaced with a HS1 model. That HS1 was noisier then the old venter it replaced. The fan was somewhat out of balance, thus vibrated and caused some irritating noise because the vibration propagated though the rigid ducting and spread into the wall of the house. That unit was later damaged when hit by lumber being moved so I had to replace it with a new HS1 unit; the one I recently purchased via Amazon. The fan in this new one was even more out of balance than the previous one and the resulting noise it terribly irritating. There's a ridiculous amount of vibratory energy put out by such a small-diameter fan! I see a balancing weight attached to a fan blade but it must not be the right weight or it's attached at a wrong location, thus I attribute the problem to poor quality control. (I know what I'm talking about; my profession is acoustics & noise control.) I would avoid buying a Tjernlund HS-1 if I could find another venter that fit the service need and space available.

Two failed over the last 13 years, last one arrived with broken circuit board peg
I just installed my third one in 13 years. The first one failed after a few months after it was put in and was replaced under warranty. That one lasted about 12 years before it quit working, which is OK. This one arrived with one of the pegs that holds the control circuit board in place. That would have resulted in it being returned, but I really needed to get the furnace running again so I put the circuit board in the old housing and got the furnace going again.

Doable for reasonably skilled persons.
Bought to replace original on my 25 year old furnace. Everything fit nicely, was a small wiring issue that we had to address. The wire that allowed the purge motor to turn on at the right time was not the same color as the original but was findable. This was a much more reasonable expense than getting a whole new furnace as the heating company was pushing for.

Initally Very Loud
The unit was purchased to replace an earlier HS1 unit without pre-purge and post-purge exhaust control. The unit installed easily as a replacement for the earlier model but was extremely noisy with a lot of vibration. Being a HVAC Supervisor for a large commercial complex I checked the blower fan and motor assembly and found the factory installed fasteners between the motor and blower assembly finger tight, after snugging the fasteners the power vent noise level was acceptable.

Works great
I recently put a standing seam metal roof on my house. To preserve the clean, modern lines of the roof, a wanted to eliminate as many penetrations through the roof as possible. I installed this unit to vent my high-temp furnace through the gable. This is unit is easily configurable wrt pre-evacuating and post combustion. There is a reed pressure switch to ensure the unit is moving air as a safeguard. I interrupts the call for heat at the thermostat, which eliminated a run all the way to the furnace in the crawl space. Essentially all you need is interrupting the solenoid, you can do that almost anywhere. I ran class-b flex to the high-temp vent. Works great.
