20 years and my first hole.
I've worn this Tilley for well over 20 years, sailing, gardening, and everything else. I did get a "out in public" 2nd one in 2016 because of the sweat stains (my fault, it said to wash frequently). But found my first small hole today in my 1st one, not bad not bad at all.

Believe the positive reviews - the TH5 Hemp is a winner - and now part of my Tilley "collection" ;-)
OK, I will come clean and readily admit - I probably own too many Tilley hats!! I have always liked the fact that Tilley hats come sized to fit - as someone with a hard to fit, kind of large head, the "One Size Fits Most" and "S, M, L, XL" tags usually means the hat is not going to fit me. Since Tilley offers hats in 1/8 sized increments is one up on most hat makers - then the fact that the quality, workmanship, materials, etc are second to none results in a hat that is hard to pass up!! So... due to this, I own five different Tilley hats which I use for different endeavors such as yardwork, casual wear, hiking, boating.... What makes the hemp stand out? Well, the mere fact it is made out of a natural material, and not nylon or other synthetic, is already a plus for me. Then, the fact it has a unique characteristic of being a HEMP hat, and then a hemp hat with style and made so well..... that is a nice combination. Then, couple that with a hat that wears so comfortably in most climates - even warmer weather - as the Hemp seems to breath better than the Tilley cotton duck hats, and definitely better than their Nylon offerings. (my head temp runs way too hot for most Nylon hats, mesh panels or not). Finally, the Hemp hat has a nice stiff brim that holds its shape, and the dome will also hold its shape nicely if you want it to and take care not to store it crushed, etc. Note - if you are one to stuff this hat in your pack, it will come out wrinkled - look at Tilley hemp hats like those Linen garments you wear - they look great when you care for them, keep them pressed - but will look frumpy and wrinkled if treated as such. Bottom line - as a Tilley T3, T5MO and other Tilley hat owner, it took me a long time to try out the Tilley Hemp offerings. Now that I did, I am sold. It also offers a unique look compared to the basic Khaki, Olive colors, and it is a hat I can easily wear out to the store, or any other casual settings. The hat has a nice appeal, and even my wife has noted how much she likes it... after initially being sure she was going to hate it!! If you already own a Tilley hat of the Cotton or Nylon variety - consider this hat if you are looking for a different look and feel, but still want the Tilley quality. If you are new to Tilley and thinking of the Hemp as your FIRST hat, ask yourself what you are going to use it for, and if this type of hat is for you. IMHO, these type of hats are more of an "acquired taste" and one has to be prepared for the pro / con for this type of hat - for instance, if you like your hats to always have that pressed, clean and pristine look, with no wrinkles then the Th5 may not be for you. Sure, you can maintain it with a clean, unwrinkled look, but you will always have to be cognizant of how you store it. However, if you are looking for a versatile, all weather hat for hiking - I would say there are other hats more tailored to the weather that fit the bill better for that endeavor. For instance, in warm weather hiking, a T5MO or T4MO in organic cotton might be the ticket for you - or even a Nylon hat with mesh cooling panels if you are one that can withstand nylon on your head in warm weather (I cannot). Some swear by the hemp hat for warm weather hiking too, so YMMV. Then, for more mild weather hiking, you might consider a hat of the cotton duck, or waxed cotton variety.... or even this hemp hat. It is one of the most versatile Tilley hat in terms of suitability for most dry weather climates - and why it sells so well! As far as wet and rainy conditions.... I say forget it, there are clearly better choices out there. The Hemp holds water, period. So in summary, if the hat fits, and you are someone that does not mind a Hemp hat - I say give it a try!!! I did and love it! EDIT: One thing to note - it took me two attempts on Amazon to buy this hat - the first time not only was the wrong style hat shipped in the wrong size (I was shipped a T4 in 7 1/4) and in a TH5 bag - but the hat was shipped completely flattened and stored so long that way that I deemed it beyond repair for my collection. So if you get one shipped poorly, you could contact the seller and try again. Also note - Tilley hats being slightly wrinkled / mis-shaped during shipping is not a disaster - if you mist / wet the hats, they are easily re-shaped and the wrinkles removed. I typically periodically mist and reshape my hats when I think they need a pep up - I also have a couple of those department store Styrofoam heads that help me during the process so the hat can dry on something shaped like a head!! It really helps...

pretty great hat
This is an expensive cloth hat. The good news is that it also seems like an expensive cloth hat. Super comfy, flawless construction, looks good, floats without being weird about it.. You do need to be sure you want 100% hemp, though. It obviously won't be as dry and cool as synthetics, but I prefer it anyway. It gets softer over time, like linen, and can be repaired. Mine has been used backcountry camping for about a month total now, washed twice, and that was enough to give the green color a slight 'patina', so you have to be okay with that as well, but I think it looks good. Like old army canvas gear, or something. Anyway, thumbs up.

Not What They USed To Be
I own several Tilley hats. I have always worn a size 7-5/8" in alll of my older Tilley hats including my Hemp Tilley from 2015. I really wanted a second hemp hat so that while one is drying out I can wear the other as I tend to love to wear this hat in summer and it gets quite sweaty very quickly. Always hand-wash these hats with a mild soap like Zote or Wool-lite and then let them air dry. If you do that they should last you a lifetime. My older hemp hat is a size 7-5/8" just like ALL my other Tilley hats. After returning a few recently manufactured 7-5/8" ones because they were too small I did get one that fit OK by ordering a 7-7/8". Tilley seems to be having a problem with consistent sizing these days. The newer hats seem to have a simpler (cheaper) interior and even the foam panel on top that makes it float is thinner than it used to me. Then there was an absolutely obnoxious tag in the side advertising their brand that seems to have been designed to make you damage the hat if you want to remove it. I did manage to get it removed without damaging the hat using a cuticle cutter and a lot of light and patience (and some luck). Soooooooooo - now the Tilleys have sizing issues, cheaper interiors, and obnoxious tags on them because I want to walk around advertising their products. I can honestly say that unless I hear of Tilley reverting back to the old Tilley I grew to love that this will be the last hat I buy from them. It isn't altogether a bad hat if you can deal with the above-mentioned issues.

It's a Tilley
Nice hat to add to my collection. Does not keep it's shape as well as other Tilley hats but still a good hat

Good fit. Like that it's made from a product no longer illegal in US.

An Excellent Hat but poor customer service from Tilley
I’ve had a cotton duck Tilley hat for about 20 years, but decided to try one in the Mocha colour and in hemp for a change. The hat was delivered just 2 days after ordering - good customer service and price as usual from e-Outdoor. Quality of construction is as good as ever and I expect this tough hat to also last 20 years! Remember that Canadian hat sizes are slightly different from UK ones so first measure the circumference of your head. The hat is designed to be worn loose and low down so it’s comfortable for prolonged wear and the strap is there for when the wind is really strong. I find the looser weave of hemp means it’s slightly cooler than the cotton hat and to stay cooler it also helps to remove the foam from inside the crown unless you’re in a location where the hat is likely to blow into the sea or a river. Mine didn’t come with the advertised customer handbook, but it’s easily available from the customer website. Now for the bad bit! When I tried registering my hat on line to activate the guarantee, the website wasn’t working properly, so I telephoned Tilley UK to register it by phone. I was told by a very rude woman that it’s a known problem and to try again in a few weeks as it wasn’t possible to register it by phone, only on the non-working website. That’s pretty poor service. They need to fix the website and employ people with a better telephone manner. Luckily, it doesn’t detract from the hat and the quality is such that I think it unlikely I’ll ever need to make a warranty claim (unless it’s eaten by a leopard when I go on safari!). For use in the tropics it’s far superior to these leather so-called safari hats I see a number of people wearing as it’s much cooler and can be easily washed to get rid of the inevitable sweat soaked into the absorbent headband. I’d have given it 5 stars if not for the poor attitude of Tilley UK customer service. This is no reflection on e-Outdoor whose price is competitive and service good

Comfortable and well made
It's a hat...what more can you say. It appears well made and of good quality. Fits well and as expected. Not sure I'll use the ties so for the moment they just stay tucked in. I've heard and read good things about Tilley so maybe this hat will last, though I'll admit I'm not sure what will happen once it gets washed. However instructions do say wash regularly so guess it should be OK.

Not what I’d hoped
Seems comfortable enough. Quite floppy and pretty wrinkled/deformed when it arrived. I wouldn’t have bought it if I’d seen it first. Oh well, might be ok for mowing the lawn or something.

Best ever hat
Perfect fit, I measured my head to make sure before I ordered. It looks good and is comfortable. Such a good quality hat, expensive but worth it.
