Almost like custom made boots
I have had these shoes for a few weeks now and the longer I have them, the more I like them. I ordered them according to the sizing chart, but thought they would be too small, but I'd give them a try. When I first put them on I was sure that I had ordered them too small, but very soon they fit me snugly as if they had been custom built to my feet. I noticed they fit without my foot sliding around inside and after a few days (to let my feet and my shoes to get to know each other) my feet felt at home in them. These boots are made of "Crazy Horse Leather" which is not horse hide at all, but a full grain leather that is normally used in saddle making. I expect these shoes will last and last and will look even better with age. One thing though, they are not even "water resistant" much less water proof, so you will have to treat them yourself if that is important to you. I use them for hiking and as motorcycle shoes and (with half chaps) horseback riding. They make great paddock boots, just don't step in deep squishy ... stuff. They are made in Vietnam with world class workmanship.

Go a size down for a glove-like fit.
I've had docs in black that I bought in my normal size 8. They were quite big. So when I wanted to try another pair, I got black patent in 7. They fit but they are a bit tight. I decided to try some brown boots. I ordered an 8, thinking about my patent leather pair that was tight. At the last minute, I also ordered a 7 to see if they might fit differently since they are a less stiff leather than patent. The 7 fit my regularly sized 8 foot like a glove! There is a breaking in period - the tops cut into my legs but I expect that will lessen after a bit. My left foot is slightly larger than my right, and the heel cup digs into the back of my ankle, but nothing drastic. This, too, I expect to go away in time. Overall, the brown leather is gorgeous and the boots fit amazing. There isn't as much arch support as I might like, as a former ballerina with super high arches. But I'm hoping the sole will mold to my foot shape as time goes on. If not, I can use some inserts, no biggie.

Great boot.
The boot was a great fit, comfortable at all times. I have worn DM's since living in England in the 1970's at school. They have always been a great boot. I always wear them when I fly.

Authentic, well made, A+
I tend to wear through my boots fairly quickly, and over time I’ve realized my pairs of Doc Martin’s are the only ones that last years as my dailys. For a steel toe workboot I still recommend Ever Boots, yet for daily wear, on your feet and in wet or slippery conditions, you cant go wrong with these 1460 Doc’s.

Great quality, the look I’d hoped for
Was so relieved that the fit was perfect. Love my boots, but they can get heavy after a long day.

No regrets.
I've been looking for replacements to my beloved Roots Boots for a while now and in these boots, believe I may have found them. The quality appears high, at 120 bones the price was right, and they are fairly comfortable right out of the box. I expect that will only improve with time. A second pair in another colour is currently on order as a result of what I've seen so far in these.

Seven pairs and counting!
I've been buying and wearing Dr Martens for about seven years now and I own several pairs, all of which I have bought after trying them on beforehand in a store. Knowing the product well, I know that in general I wear a size 7, despite wearing a size 8 in all other brands of footware. I am a woman and so I would suggest if you can't try on a pair beforehand, perhaps go for a size smaller than you would in a trainer or shoe. A walking boot is a good comparison but these boots are generally on the larger side as they are intended to be unisex. I had been looking for a dark brown pair for a few weeks and was lucky enough to stumble upon this pair on Amazon for less than £80 and although this might seemed like a lot of money to pay for a pair of boots, knowing the product well, I knew it was a good deal. I couldn't find another similar pair for less than £110 brand new on the internet or my more local stores. This pair is a lot softer in the leather than my previous pairs, which leads me to believe they may also be a little less weather resistant, so it's important to use some kind of protector on the leather. Although Docs are somewhat water resistant (fear no puddle) they are not repellent or all weather resistant, so be careful! These boots generally take some time to break in and shape to your foot. Because the leather stretches it's important not to go rambling in them straight away. I recommend wearing them a few times for short periods just to get used to them. It's very common to get blisters between your heel and the top of your foot if you don't break them in properly, and even then, you might still get some rubbing. If you're concerned I recommend sticking large plasters to the inside heel of the shoe for the first week or so. Please don't let this put you off, as once they are comfortable, these are the best brand I have ever owned. Pros for Docs in General *The soles are thick and resistant, after years of walking around in them, there is still much wear left. *The leather stretches *Feet are kept very dry in rain and walking through big puddles *Last for years *Loads of varieties available *Unisex *Shoelaces last (I've not needed to replace a pair yet!) *Can pull on easily with the tag Cons for Docs in General *Can be uncomfortable when new *Patterned pairs can erode quickly (even though the shoe itself is hard wearing) *On the large size for most women *More expensive than other brands
