Installation tips
Made a new motor out of my '70s vintage 4hp tiller. Before replacement my motor would start hard and run OK at full throttle but would not idle down without dying. And it refused to start at all when hot. All of these problems went away after replacement. It now starts quickly at any temperature and idles down nicely. There are no installation instructions with this part, and it may be a bit confusing about how to install if you are replacing a standard coil with points and condenser. Simply cut the wire that runs from under the flywheel (which comes from the points), and don't re-attach it to anything; it is not needed with this coil (i.e. Briggs and Stratton "magnetron"). BTW, the spade terminal on this coil is for a wired kill switch, if your engine utilizes one; if not leave it open as well.

Great unit, no more ignition points to mess with!
This works great on the 4hp Briggs &Stratton on my old Troy Bilt Pony. Fits great and I was able to fit the air diffuser back on with this coil. I cut the wire that ran from the old coil to the points/condensor as that wire is no longer used. My tiller had another wire (engine kill) from the throttle plate to the points/condensor. I cut that and extended it to reach the spade terminal on the new coil unit so the engine kill works correctly. There are no instructions with this item so hopefully this information is helpful to someone.

Missing rivet that mounts sheet metal baffle (like most of these aftermarket coils)
I ordered this as being compatible with Briggs #397358. There should be a rivet with a raised head (space under it) for mounting a metal baffle on the engine. This coil doesn't have one so I am returning it and it could have been easily prevented if the seller had only had photos of both sides! Frustratingly, even the Stens website has only a single photo so you just can't tell. I have ordered a DZE 4026 also from Amazon (which is the actual box that Stens is selling with their own label added). It's $8 cheaper AND the photos show the rivet present. We shall see. Update 11/4: The DZE 4026 arrived today. Sad to say, the photos in the listing for it are wrong, it has no rivets either. At least it is cheaper than the identical one with the Stens label.

So easy a Cave Man could install it!
Before you but this, just try a NEW spark plug first. My primary AND secondary plugs started shorting when the engine got hot. Never ASSUME. But to install pull off the old coil, cut the wire to the condenser, install the new ignition with a cardboard piece between the magnetic part of the flywheel and the new coil, install a new kill wire, done. No filing points every spring, wondering if the condenser is bad. Old engine runs great.....with a new spark plug.

worked well
i installed on older 4 hp troybuilt tiller with no spark. the old tiller starts first pull now.No need to remove old points and condenser just cut wire going to them.

Fixed my 42 year old tiller!
My 5hp Briggs powered TroyBilt tiller was hard to start and stalled when hot. I spent a lot of time working on the carburetor but it was actually ignition problems. This electronic conversion eliminates the points and gives you a new coil and a stronger spark. Easy to install too.

Fixed and upgraded from points style!
easy fix for the old points style ignition! Simply cut the condensor and points out of the equation! Fit my 5hp briggs from 1979 perfectly. So it will definitely replace the entire set up from older motors. It is a stand alone unit no need for anything else. Just gap it with a playing card plug in the spark plug cap and boom! You have spark again!

This coil works well!
I purchased this electronic ignition coil for a very old tiller with a 5HP B&S engine. I had an issue with the points/condenser unit inside the engine. Unit would run for 10 minutes tops and then, it needed hours to rest before I could use it again. This ignition coil was very easy to install. There are also YouTube videos to help with the installation. The entire garden was tilled in one-shot with no more ignition issues. Well worth buying.

Wire tab on the coil!
Easily installed, nothing else to adjust, just start it up! Note: the wiring tab on the coil is to be used for shut down of the engine (shorts the coil to ground to kill the spark ) not explained with the coil.If you have connected to it and the engine won’t start, remove the wire and try again. You can stall the engine by pulling the choke on.

Perfect fit
AWESOME!! Exact fit. No issues. Just cut the wire from the points/condensor, and got a nice fat spark. Runs like a charm now. 1978 Briggs & Stratton 130232-0676 engine on a Mastercraft snowblower.
