Original Replacement or Custom Made ?

My original only lasted about 1.5 years. But I do use a (chemical) bleach tablet from Clorox, which warped the original black rubber gasket ever so slightly, just enough to give me a slow leak. I agree with the other reviewer; kind of. About the Box store wants to sell you some Generic for about $10 more than this deal. [I got mine here for $5.15 w/s&h 9/2011] But, if you have some customizing abilities about you. You can replace just the gasket of the flapper just by buying a flat sheet of 6"x6" 1/8" thick. "Plumb Pak Rubber Washer" Item #: 31448 Model #: PP25547 right at lowes for $1.38. (it's red clay color) Which is what I did before I ordered these much more easy, streamlined, replacements. [Even Amazon sells them, but for more $.Rubber Packing Sheets, 6" x 6" Red But it doesn't state if it's 1/8" thick. you do not want 1/16" thick] These make your own gaskets, aren't anywhere near as cheaply made as the originals, or the replacements. Which is the first thing I noticed. [How to] That gasket slides out from under that center plastic piece, the original gasket looks just like a flat donut. Then you just use that as a pattern to draw out on the new gasket sheet. I simply used a pair of scissors and carefully cut out the new gasket. (just like it was arts & crafts). Slide it over, and back under the plastic center, which requires a bit of effort sliding it back and forth till you get it under.. But the trick is to get one side at a time slide under. Not a women's job for sure. (I don't mean that offensively) Just as you did when you pulled it out from under in the beginning. Only in reverse. Don't even think of using a screwdriver, you might crack the plastic, and it's really not needed. Remember, it's a tight fit so you don't have a leak. I still have the heavy duty custom made gasket installed. [8 months now] I'm betting it will last about 3-4 years. [even with chemicals] (I'll update this later in time if I'm wrong) I didn't do all this to just save $3. I'm looking at the longevity of not performing any part of this task. Either with this replacement sold here or the custom gasket. But hay, I ordered this because if I get in a jam with a leak, I'm not pressed for immediate attention and water is not being wasted. I can just use this new replacement till I grab a new heavy duty gasket sheet from lowes. Made in America,. Built in America,.. You know it's gonna last longer.

Good Replacement - Watch where pull chain is hooked

I bought this to replace my flapper. On my old flapper, the silicone seal was coming undone and that what was causing my drip leak. FYI on this replacement that I did not know. On my old flapper, the pull chain was hooked to the front of the flapper. This one, in the center. You would not think it would make a difference, but it does as far as the flush. This one in the center does not give enough of a flush time open as opposed to my old one with the chain in the front. This seems to be a good replacement, but does not work for my application. And the chain on this one is a ball chain not a link chain.

Far more robust that the original part

I was somewhat disappointed to see that the part that arrived was not branded American Standard. However, the new part is actually better than the original part. The brass arm inside of the tank and the threaded bushing are both much heavier than the original parts. The chrome looks very good. Installed in 5 minutes. The big surprise; Not made in China.

Doesn't fit my American Standard Cadet 3.

I mistakenly bought this flapper to fix a leaking American Standard Cadet 3 with a 3-inch flush valve. You'd think that since American Standard sells both toilets and toilet parts, that an American Standard toilet would use American Standard replacement parts, but you'd be wrong. Apparently, my American Standard Cadet has universal Fluidmaster components inside, and the two flappers ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. If you go the American Standard's website, they will tell you to pay attention to the flapper's color. If you have a white flapper then buy a replacement white flapper (this one). If you have a red flapper, then buy a red flapper (FluidMaster). There might be other combinations, but the moral of this story is to buy your specific flapper model instead of buying something for the Cadet toilet because American Standard used different, non-interchangeable components within the same model toilet during different years. For me, I neededthis one. Key differences between the American Standard 738920-0070A VS the Fluid Master 5403 are that the mounting ears on the Fluid Master Flush Valve are TOO SHORT to mount the American Standard 738920-0070A. Also, the inner diameter of the silicone gasket from the 738920-0070A is significantly larger than the Fluid Master 5403. Pro Tip: You might be able to find just the flush valve seals. These new 3-inch flappers have a sturdy plastic fame that's unlikely to break or warp...the part that usually needs replacement is just the valve seal, which is basically a silicone ring.

Your american standard flapper not working? Look no further

For whatever reason the flapper that came with my american standard toilet would come loose from the sides and i couldn't physically see the worn out of it but found it on amazon so i ordered it installed it and yep it works! If you got a similar prob do this and see if it'll work.

Very good quality and right fit

It saved my hundreds of dollars, it fits my WaterRidge dual flash toilet model no C21083C , part assembly no A700245-GBG1. Very good quality and right fit for my 10 years old water saving toilet. I usually don’t write reviews but writing this so that people can be help. It also very reasonable price.

Does the job!

Seems to work just fine, although the AS part # on the packing box differed from the parts list label I found pasted to the underside of the tank cover on my AS Cadet 2 piece toilet. Anyway it's a 3" flapper, it fits right and it cured the tank water leakage so I'm happy!

The toilet flapper was a perfect fit. It was not a cheap knockoff. It was identical to my old toilet flapper. Easy to install.

Replacement for my Costco Toilet

This worked out perfectly for me when I was having issues with my Costco toilet. I couldn't find one for the specific brand which is a WaterRidge. I was able to just install the top portion of the Assembly as that is where I had issues. I think if you want to replace the whole unit you have to take apart the toilet to get proper access. However for me this was a really easy solution and it has been a few months without any issues.
