Great collar, extremely low volume beep compared to previous ver

Sportdog stand by their collars. I had the previous iteration of the upland hunter and it held up to a ton of abuse for 6-7 years of daily use before falling apart. I never used the locating on point beeper as I just found it jarring. I guess the bell of my youth is just something I equate with a good time in the field. My dog is trained to use the tone on the collar as a recall. I haven't had to zap him in years. He just has super high prey drive and sometimes needs a reminder that he's hunting for me, not himself. I was pleased with the sportdog so figured I would go with a new version sans the pointing location beeper thingy. The battery rlife is better, particularly with the hand transmitter, thing lasts forever now. I am OK with paying for quality and had no issue with the price. The only con I can see is that the tone is significantly lower than it was. I can't hear it over the bell and neither can of the dog. The old one, it wasn't an issue. I don't know if they traded off for a larger battery and less of a beeper ??? If that isn't your usecase then I would recommend it. Using a bell ? Go with the older ver if you can get it.

Great training aid

Make sure the antenna is tight before you head out. I lost that my first time out and about $30 to replace. I let my dog run off leash when we are off trail in the forest setting. The beep signals her to return. I also use a whistle and a ‘hey’ command for her return. I use the beep and ‘drop it’ command. It also helps her not chase deer when I say NO!, she listens. These things were hard to teach a young, energetic spaniel. She is learning quickly now. I’m am able to start to bike with her and know she won’t run off. You can program the buttons to do different things—we mainly use tone and vibrate. We use this device everyday for at least an hour and the battery lasted about 3 months before I had to charge it. This device has worked great and the distance seems to work good even in the trees in hilly terrain. I have used other similar products—make sure you get one with plenty of range. It doesn’t take long for a dog to range out. I recommend this device—it has everything I needed.

Life changing - absolutely!

Got this setup for an adventurous Golden-Lab mix. He’s a little over 2 yrs old and developed a habit of taking off into the wild with his friends when I’d let him out to do his business or even when we were all hanging out in the backyard and didn’t pay attention to him for a few minutes. Truthfully though, he had way worse habits before. Over time, patience was hard to come by and we do love this creature, so had to do something to keep him safe. We quickly learned that he doesn’t like electricity, and within days he’s been a better more obedient dog and even playing fetch is a better experience. Both the collar and remote are easy to charge, and the charge holds fairly well, meaning it’s enough to charge the collar once a week, the remote holds a charge even better. Like I said, after about 3 instances of vibrating him he quickly learned what comes after the beep so he’s been soooooo much easier and better. I’ve made the mistake of not purchasing this product earlier thinking it was inhumane, basing that on very little knowledge really. This device could have spare the dog from being hit by vehicles 2x and us from a whole lot of heartache and frustration when going through the chewy youngster stage. Also, it was dropped in water and it didn’t affect the device at all. Wonderful product. I wish there was a tutorial video that’s easy to locate and explains all the different settings. For a beginner user it wasn’t so easy peasy to figure those out. Update: A year or so later, this is still going strong, working as it’s supposed to. The collar needs weekly+ charging, but the remote can go on one charge for months. It’s been in rain, mud and still works like a charm. From pups perspective, it’s really really a rarity to have to buzz him, a beep is enough to get his attention back on track. Blessing! Update 2 - review has been hidden by a sensitivity filter. Really wonder why. It’s a wonderful product, let that be known.

Best purchase ever.

This has helped our young blue heeler beyond expected! Great quality, awesome distance, amazing battery life. It also helped that my husband knew how to properly use (when it’s appropriate to use the shock and how to teach him what were asking, not over buzzing him) it vs ruining our dog. This purchase has been a life saver!

Overall pleased

Distance is great, adjustability is awesome in the collar itself and the intensity of the collar. Only hangup I have is that the on off button is not in a great spot and can easily be inadvertently turned off rendering it useless when you need it. Obviously you realize this when trying to use our and the pup didn't respond. Only other thing I would change is that there should be a way to tell what the remaining battery life on the collar is at any given moment. Remote has an indicator though. Manual says it's good for 40 hours depending on use, I only charge both every 4 days and it still works fine when they go on the charger. Overall a great purchase and works as intended.

Works great but had an issue with loosing the antenna!

Overall very good but had one issue with it.. I lost the antenna after it unscrewed itself and fell off! I am using this to train a hunting dog and will graduate to a larger distance product later. Pro's: - very rugged design compared to other brands out there - Clear screen - easy to use and understand - buttons are configurable to different functions (beep, static - continuous and/or one-time and vibrate) - Charger uses contacts and not pins which I think will ensure it will last longer and less susceptible to water/other damage - Comes with a good clip and a lanyard - Battery life seems good, I have only needed to charge it once since getting and that was a couple days ago.. battery still says full and I have used it 4-5 times Cons: - The antenna is detachable and it screws in, I didn't think to use thread locker so I lost it! - The antenna is long so it sometimes can make the unit a little awkward (small gripe) - The beep sound seems a little quiet to me but the dog is responding to it... I would suggest you use some thread locker to make sure this doesn't happen to you or just be aware of it. Its cool you can replace the antenna but I wish I thought about this before I lost it. I contacted SportDog customer service to see if they can help me out. The collar still responds without the antenna but I don't know how much distance I lose without the antenna. Overall, very good and heads above the other options out there IMO so if your thinking about it then this is a very good option.

This was a game changer - Jax has freedom again.

Bought this a month ago for our two year old Aussie, Jax. After losing our last dog to a porcupine encounter I was reluctant to let Jax off lead for fear of another similar incident. His call back was a work in progress, but not yet tested. This was the cure all with a little time and patience and he is off lead with me all the time now with fantastic call back. The HUGE BONUS related to his constant alert barking. We have a wrap around balcony that overlooks a lot of nature and his barking at every sight or sound was a pain......but we understood he was just doing his job. One accidental zap (it really was an accident on my part) and he automatically came to understand what "quiet" meant. No more 2 am barking at the slightest noises. He still barks when the coyotes howl but that is to be expected. A couple of "quiets" followed with "good boy" reinforcement and we are back to sleep. A real game changer ........freedom of lead for our big boy, and a more restful house for us all.

Great training aid

We had a difficult time setting the transmitter to the setting we wanted for our 11 month Golden Retriever, but when we finally did, what a wonderful help to teach him recall on command! I am so glad we purchased this collar! Well worth every penny! The collar seems to keep it’s charge much longer than the transmitter, still, we are very happy with this purchase!

Collier très efficace et indispensable pour tous les chiens fugueur.

J'ai acheté ce collier car mon beagle fuguait systématiquement des qu'il sentait une odeur de gibier dans les bois. Je rentrais souvent seul, frustré et inquiet. Depuis, il ne fugue plus, il revient au bip et nous revenons tout le temps ensemble. C'est maintenant un réel plaisir de me balader en forêt avec mon chien que j'adore. Je recommande vraiment l'utilisation de ce collier pour tous les chiens fugueurs à condition de l'utiliser en bonne intelligence sans maltraiter son fidèle compagnon.
