Great project box
Can't wait to give to my granddaughter for her birthday. Just the other day she asked me to each her to sew! Looks like fun!

Doesn’t quite include everything needed, but a great intro kit
This is a really nicely put together kit to help a kid discover sewing. The box is made from good quality board and has a flap on the side with a magnetic closure, so it could easily be repurposed for other storage needs later on (I see potential for a fun decoupage project down the line). I didn‘t scrutinize this too closely before requesting it, but in retrospect I should have realized it would be too advanced for my 5-year-old to use independently. This kit is for a slightly older child who can follow written instructions, and is more comprehensive since the child will learn how to cut out fabric pieces by tracing shapes from the included pattern paper (which the child will need to cut out). The included felt is pleasantly soft and feels well made enough for felt. Instead of thread, the child will use embroidery floss to sew everything together. This seems like a nice way to address the fact that most of the stitches here are going to be visible: the whole point of using felt, I assume, is to spare the child the need to learn about seam allowances so they’re not doing a lot of hidden stitchwork to achieve these projects. I was pleased to see that the needle that comes with the kit is blunt at the end. It should be sufficient to push through the included felt fabric and give a feel for how to handle a real sewing needle, without the blood and tears. Though she’s not at a reading level to take these on alone, I would feel comfortable guiding her along in due time when she has gotten more skilled with scissors. The fabric clips feel like they should give a good hold and are a nice alternative to straight pins. I will mention that at least one project listed straight pins among the needed materials, though you could probably just substitute with the clips. I have been curious about these clips for my own uses, so I may need to give them a try with my next project. The book includes guidance for several stitching techniques, with each project showing off how to use at least one of those techniques to produce a desired effect. I understand that a child should be able to complete at least one of all seven projects in the book with the materials provided. Though it doesn’t include absolutely everything needed for every project, it is likely at least some materials (or reasonable substitutes) would be on hand in an average household. For example, it does not include a pair of scissors but hopefully most people already own a halfway decent pair that can cut through felt. Below is a list of the seven projects and materials used: 1. Embroider a star -Use the included glue to attach the finished embroidered star to one of two included square cards 2. Bird bookmark -This one calls for a paperclip to sew the bird onto, which is not included. Most households probably have a paperclip to spare, but the example photos show a fun yellow paperclip that might not be as readily to hand. 3. Finger puppets (monkey, lion, elephant) -Just requires the included felt and embroidery floss; also suggests drawing additional details with the included black fabric pen 4. Small bag -Uses the included ribbon as a strap and to tie the flap shut. Suggestion to use Velcro (not included) if you don’t want to tie the bag shut 5. Owl cushion (featured on the cover) -The kit does not include any filling material to stuff the cushion. Not a problem in my household as I have a bag of polyfill laying around, but it could be frustrating to have to go buy filler for a small project when you’d almost certainly get stuck with a lot left over. One could potentially substitute by stuffing it with ripped up rags instead. 6. Wristband -Intended to be made with scraps left over from other projects; calls for a piece of ⅛ inch ribbon not included. Would require pinking shears to achieve the zigzag cut shown on the fabric strips. 7. Flower brooch -The kit includes the button and one pin backing to make this. I notice that the cover features what looks like a garland of fabric stars. I’d assumed it would be one of the projects; obviously that is not the case. However, if a child is inspired to make one on their own, the book should have provided enough base knowledge for them to try to make it for themselves. Overall I think this is a great way to introduce a kid to sewing. I do think it would have been nice to include the filler for the owl cushion. For this reason I see it as an ideal gift for a kid whose household will have some crafting supplies on hand, but with a little creative thinking a child is likely to be able to find alternatives if they are missing a thing or two.

Great introductory kit
I had gotten this for my 4-year-old daughter. I used it with her one weekend, and we sat down and began to follow the directions to make the owl. There is a lot of material in the box, but you need to really plan your cuts carefully. My daughter was not able to cut the shapes out on her own and it was probably a little beyond her current skillset, but when I made all of the cuts and had the pieces available to begin to assemble, she was able to play along and do some of the stitching. I think that this could have been a bit better if the pieces were precut, because we spent a lot of time tracing out the shapes and cutting them out. It was a fun little project and my daughter really enjoyed the time that we spent working on it together. The cost was pretty light for this and the time and the value was very high in the end. I hope that this helps.

Very nice gift for someone creative
My niece is always looking for projects to try out her creativity and the Sew Happy kit allowed her to do just that. There are instructions included for projects, which she took on a few of but then she started to add her on flair. The SpiceBox kit only started the ideas, we were at Joann's soon after looking for different fabrics to play with. The kit was a good project starter and led to more activities based on those learned with the kit.

Great Project!
This is a very easy way to teach kids how to sew. There is a cut pattern for you to use and everything else you would need to put your animal together. Our 3 year old was a little sad because she couldn't really do it by herself but for kids that are older it is very very fun.
