Genius Pro vs Sonicare DiamondClean
Similar to the Sonicare DiamondClean smart brush, Oral-B's smart version also comes with a Bluetooth app to monitor brushing activities (Android or iPhone). The app has more features than Sonicare's, but has Bluetooth connectivity issues similar to Sonicare's earlier software versions. 10/10 for the brush - good cleaning functions, more brush variety, cheaper than Sonicare's, several modes, good battery life. A 6/10 for the app - somewhat confusing interface, spotty connectivity (face recognition and position detection can be frustrating and more trouble than actually useful - Oral B frequently can't tell up from down, or right from left). The app appears to be optimized for the iPhone, whereas I, and over 60% of the rest of the smartphone world, use an Android device. It does have a useful timer, a decent tracker and combines other utilities such as the weather and the news while you brush. For comparison, I'd give the Sonicare app 8/10 (points off for its randomly inaccurate brushing data) with the significant updates noted below. Both apps require you to be watching your cellphone or tablet while you brush, which is less than convenient in front of a bathroom mirror; Oral-B provides a bulky but effective and surprisingly strong suction attachment to hold your phone to the mirror, with the Sonicare you essentially have to prop up your phone or tablet somewhere on your bathroom counter. The Oral-B app is camera-based for location detection, so you need precise phone alignment for it to recognize where you are brushing (hence the suction attachment); their standard timer function familiar to Oral-B users will work without location sensing. Sonicare uses accelerometer sensors in the handle to tell where you are brushing, so will work without having a specific alignment for phone or tablet - but you will need to be able to see the app to accurately record brushing. The Oral B app will record offline brushing (up to 30 sessions) and later transmit to the app. If either app loses it's way during brushing using location sensors, you'll need to start over to accurately record your brushing session - something you may not be willing to do multiple times when heading out to work or late for an appointment. They also may store some of your personal health information (aka your toothbrushing sessions) in the "cloud" so if you're concerned about foreign governments hacking into your teeth, not for you. Considering people usually dedicate minimal time to brushing anyway, you may find that you just skip the phone/Bluetooth thing altogether. Both brushes have countertop chargers - Sonicare's can either be their charging glass or standup charger, and occupies minimal counter space, as well as combining a glass to rinse. Oral-B has built in brush storage, but takes up about twice the counter real estate - you can separate the charger from the brush storage for a more compact profile. Both take about the same amount of time to charge, but the Sonicare brush lasts about 50 percent longer on a charge; either will get you through a week or more traveling on a charge, and both have a travel charger case (Sonicare's is extra for their lowest-priced 9300 series - about $45; included for the 9500 and 9700). Oral-B's travel case has a nifty clip for holding your cell phone upright, but most real-world phones come in a case (mine does), so won't fit in the clip (mine doesn't): note to Oral-B. Oral B's case does have a spare USB connector for your phone or other devices. Neither have a sterilizer for brush heads (Sonicare has for other models), but the dental literature jury is still very much out over whether this is even useful. Sonicare's brush in use, for those familiar, uses their "sonic" technology, essentially vibrating debris off with a conventional brush head, while Oral-B's uses their rotating round brush to clean - which is slightly more effective in removing persistent stain and plaque in my experience. Sonicare's handle is slightly "smarter" than Oral-B's, recognizing which brush head is connected to the handle adjusting for the type of head and keeping track of the number of uses of each brush head, even if you switch. The "less than genius" Oral-B only counts the number of times you used the handle, regardless of which head is attached, it doesn't "know" which type of head you are using, and there is no way to reset the head when you attach a new one, so using this for replacement timing is questionable if you use multiple heads, however their app does include automatic replacement ordering from Amazon when the handle cycles "x" number of times and resets the brush head. Most users I suspect will replace the head when the blue indicator bristles turn to white, just like on the "non-smart" Oral B. Sonicare's app, on the other hand, doesn't store sessions in the handle, so if you brush without your phone that session will not be recorded in the app, you can't go back to review previous sessions and you can't delete sessions. Sonicare is slightly less noisy, but they are electric toothbrushes, so "Bzzzzz." Electric brushes, BTW, are generally more effective at cleaning your teeth, so either is an improvement over manual brushes for the majority of people. For the bottom line, either brush will effectively clean your teeth used properly, with a slight nod to the Oral-B/P&G for its scrubbing action for cleaning consistent plaque and stain for me, and multiple brushes available. Either connected app is clearly in its embryonic stage with a slight nod for stability going to Sonicare, for utility going to Oral B, and the hope that there will be greater functionality for both with future updates. Both brushes are relatively the same value for cost, with the Oral-B substantially cheaper most places, and slightly cheaper brushes (which can represent a significant cost over a year). Sonicare for design and ergonomics; it's the "Apple" of toothbrushes, with the Oral-B the "PC" equivalent. Good ergonomics for both, and it's a matter of personal preference. I currently use both - I find the Sonicare individual head tracking useful as well as better location sensing, while the Oral B handle has a better form factor, and the head provides slightly better cleaning and is more maneuverable. Your choice will depend on what you value in a brush, and is a substantial investment in your oral health that you won't regret with either.

Durable, great product.
It is about time I write a review for this product. I bought this toothbrush may 2017. It is 2023 now and it is still going strong! Not just the toothbrush, but the traveling case still works as well! This toothbrush does a fantastic job cleaning your teeth, makes them feel truly pristine. I love how many settings it has and the overall quality. I mean, it still works perfectly after almost 6 years! I don’t use the app much but it does track when I have brushed my teeth whether I’m actively on it or not, which is cool. At least 5 different friends and family members have purchased one after I recommended it and they all agree, it’s a great toothbrush! All in all, this is the best investment I have ever made for my teeth!

Oral-B Genius Pro 8000...great toothbrush, but not so great bells and whistles
I have used an Oral-B electric toothbrush for many years. In fact my old model is still running strong, so why did I spring for this newer and seemingly better model? Well, first off, I was in the mindset that newer was better. I figured I'd been using my older model for so long that it was bound to die on me sooner or later, and seeing that this latest model had such cool features I jumped right in. The brush itself is just fine. Not necessarily a major improvement over my older model. I liked the choice of settings, including tongue brushing, and seeing how everything has an app now, I was initially wowed by the "cool" factor. The app is okay. It monitors your daily brushing habits, recording how long and hard you brush, and you can let it know whether or not you brushed your tongue or flossed your teeth or rinsed with mouthwash. And this feature does, in some ways, encourage you to pay more attention to your oral care routine. You can also follow one of five pre-programmed routines that focus on things like fresher breath, or teeth whitening, or gum health, and you can choose focused care for specific areas in your mouth that require additional attention. There is a kid-specific "Fun Zone" that makes brushing a game. Needless to say, I did not download that specific feature. The app reminds you when it's time to replace your brush head and you can even set it up as a Dash button to automatically order you a new brush head directly from Amazon. A newer feature of the app lets you enter your dentist's information to remind you of dental appointments. The Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 brush connects to the app via bluetooth to automatically monitor and record your brushing activities. You can also set it so that the timer starts once the microphone picks up on the sound of the brush motor. And if you are away from your Oral-B brush but you manage to use a manual toothbrush at the office or while traveling, you can manually start the timer so your brushing activity still counts in the app. Sadly, I've encountered issues with all of these features. The bluetooth connectivity can be spotty at times. It usually works, but not always. In those cases I generally rely on the microphone picking up on the sound of the brush motor to start the timer, but that's not always guaranteed either, and you still have to manually stop the timer when you're done. And even the button in the app to manually start the timer has its bugs. It usually works fine, but it's not always guaranteed. It's nice when the bluetooth connectivity works, but lately I've noticed that it's more hit or miss than when I first started using this. Whether that is related to hardware or software, or both, I couldn't say. What disappointed me the most however was the Position Detection feature. When I first read about this and saw the videos, I was really excited by the purported technology that combined your phone camera and some type of augmented reality which could track your brush movements and give you feedback, in real time, which areas of your mouth you spent enough time on and which needed more attention. It was a big letdown though. You have to attach a mount for your phone onto your bathroom mirror, which attaches with a strong suction cup, and position it so that your camera is lined up properly and then you have to stand still, in the same spot while brushing so that it can detect your movements. It's definitely nowhere near as exciting or futuristic as they make it out to be. I do use the phone mount on my mirror so I can have easy access to the app, but I have long given up on the Position Detection feature, which, ironically, was probably the original determining factor for buying this particular model in the first place. It's too difficult and cumbersome to try and stand in the exact position while brushing so the camera is lined up just right. It never truly knew where my brush was in my mouth and even when I'd moved on to another quadrant, the app thought I was back in a different zone. After a couple of tries, I just found it wasn't contributing positively to my oral care experience and gave up on that feature. I travel for work, but I don't ever take my electric toothbrush with me. I always use a manual brush when traveling, and there is also a manual toothbrush in my messenger bag when I'm out and about. My electric toothbrush stays at home so I have no use for the travel charging case. I also don't use the charger/stand that came with this brush. I use the old charger from my previous Oral-B brush since it is small and already in place and works perfectly fine in its existing placement in my bathroom. So these features were completely unnecessary for me and they are still in the box, even months later. Oh, and my original Oral-B toothbrush that was working just fine...I gave that to my brother and he loves it. It serves his needs perfectly, just like it served my needs for years. Ultimately, this model was an unnecessary purchase, given that I already had a perfectly fine Oral-B brush, but was taken in by the gimmicks and concept of a newer model. If you are looking to get an Oral-B electric toothbrush, I highly recommend it. I prefer Oral-B over the Sonicare brushes I've had in the past. But I would probably recommend a less expensive, less "loaded" model of Oral-B because many of these new and exciting features left me less than impressed. At least my brother is happy with his gift of my older Oral-B Triumph model. I am now trying out a Quip electric toothbrush for my travels. It's essentially a subscription service that replaces the brush head, toothpaste, and battery every 3 months for their proprietary electric brush handle. It's simple and small -about the size of a standard toothbrush- so I find that useful for travel and that will replace my manual brush away from home. However I still use, and will continue to use my Oral-B toothbrush whenever I'm home.

too expensive
It works perfectly but to be honest, u don't need to buy this model! Just go for the cheaper ones! Different modes that it has is practically useless since u would never end up using them more than twice! The Bluetooth app cannot track your teeth accurately. And let's face it do u really have the mood to bring your phone to the toilet every night and spend like five extra minutes on setting up the app? I don't! So to be honest NONE of the additional functionality provided by this model worth the money you pay! That extra brush they include that is for "whitening" it is entirely useless! Really! I wished they would have included a normal brushing head instead! The only useful thing about it is the travel case and the pressure sensor ... but even the pressure sensor does not justify paying 100$ more compared to a normal oral-b electric toothbrush. I purchased an oral B pro-1000 for my sister, and compared it with this model and let me tell you, there is NO difference lol so don't waste your money on this model!

good toothbrush but...
So this is my first electric tooth brush, I was convinced to buy one after my niece had her own and it helped remove the plaques from her teeth. A lot of the reviews I read said the toothbrush was great but the app it came with needed improvement. On the first days of use, I noticed instant improvement in the way it cleaned my teeth and how it reached areas, I even thought the app worked fine and said to myself what are these reviewers talking about, this app works great....I was wrong! The APP: After a week of use I started noticing the flaws on the app. It seem kind of slow to scan when brushing your teeth. I don't like that you constantly have to stay put in position in front of your phone for the app to scan your face. I would've preferred if the bluetooth function would work without having to constantly keep your face in front of your phone. The TOOTHBRUSH: Like i said earlier, the toothbrush works great, but a up and down button would've been more convienient to select brushing intensity instead of just the down button. My other concern is you need to turn on the toothbrush before selecting the different brushing options, i find this to be inconvienient because the tooth paste splashes all ove the place. It would've made more sense if you could select the option you want before turning on the toothbrush. The tooth brush engine sound is kind of loud, especially when the kids are asleep lol. Overall: I don't regret my purchase but if they implemented the things I mentionned this would've made it the perfect tooth brush for me.

Not fit for purpose
Couldn't use any of the additional features (which is what cost so much) without dismantling my phone. So total waste of money

Too much power - hurts to use.
This toothbrush has all the bells and whistles - if you can figure them out. I was months trying to figure out how to access more than the tooth and tongue brushing options on the handle (6 options in total - 5 visible). The app had all the other modes locked and I couldn't change them. For the life of me, I could not figure out how to access the feather, the whitening, or the massage options on the handle. So last night after much more Googling and fiddling around, I downloaded the Fun Zone app and it FINALLY let me use the other brushing modes. So now I have two Oral-B apps for the same toothbrush. I bought this toothbrush for when I got braces. I tried this toothbrush just before I started my ortho treatment and found that the toothbrush is way too powerful and it felt like a vibrating drill in my mouth - it isn't pleasant at all. Now that I've figured out how to access the feather mode, it's still too powerful for me. Also, when I put toothpaste on the brush and turn the brush on before I put it in my mouth, the toothpaste vibrates off before I can even get it in my mouth. So, I have to turn the brush on while it's in my mouth and hope it's on the feather setting because I can't see the settings to change them while the brush is in my mouth. I did email Oral-B regarding my issue late last night and they got back to me early this morning. So, good on them! However, I followed their steps to fix my problem (because I don't want to two apps, let alone one) and now I can't access the feather or other modes again. Fun times. I wish I would have tried an electric toothbrush in the ~$30 range for my first electric to get a feel for them. I would not recommend this brush. Too many technical issues and not a light enough touch on my teeth and gums even though it has a pressure sensor.

State-Of-The-Art ToothBrush ... Latest & Greatest
I did a tremendous amount of research to find the RIGHT electric toothbrush for me ... have MANY inter-related & complicated mouth/throat/gum issues ... the special NEW function added this model has a 'tongue cleaner' function that is going to help ... altogether entire system will reduce my issues to less than half of what they now are ... so a good deal for me despite the high cost factor. Also ... set comes with 3 different types of brush-heads so have opportunity to try different types that may well not have ever understood or appreciated otherwise. Have not had a chance to Travel as yet to use the Travel Case Charger System with it ... & am STILL LEARNING how to use personalized Bluetooth Features with my phone for the evaluation of my daily brushing habits. DRAWBACK: Wanted Black to coordinate with ... many other aspects of my life & lifestyle ... but this system is only MOSTLY black ... it has several white pieces that blend oddly together & don't really integrate aesthetically ... with the high cost of this system that is MOST disappointing ... but had to put my health before my tastes just the same!!
