meh
Its alright, nothing to complain or praise it for. On a side note I thought I might need this for a certain stone but it turns out I didn't I just needed water. Make sure to follow the instructions that come with your sharpening stones.

Be aware that this is a solution and not an oil.
This is NOT honing oil. As stated on the bottle, it's honing solution, not oil. That was my mistake. I don't really know what the application is, but it isn't oil, it's sort of watery, it feels like mild soap and water. I like oil on my carbon steel knives after sharpening and occasionally i work it into some crusty leather sheaths, this didn't really do the trick. Again, it's my mistake for not paying attention to the difference. I'm sure it works as advertised.

Surprised At How Effective It Was
NOT FOR WATER STONES! >.. I bought this because I was getting less than great results from my my sharpening stones. I read the information on here, and when it arrived, I opened it and put two or three drops on the stone. I spread it out over the surface, then I took a knife that had been giving me trouble, and casually stroked down the stone. It seemed to glide a little easier than usual, so I said to myself, "OK, maybe this can help." then I did three more strokes, reversed the knife and did four on that side too. >.. I don't usually check that quick, but I got out a bit of paper and sliced it effortlessly!! Well, that WAS DIFFERENT. There was a flat place near the tip that didn't want to cut, so I ran the blade over the stone backwards, drawing the blade back rather than slicing it, and focused a bit on that 'dull' spot. Did the other side, as well. Tested, and now it was all good. Alright! >.. I needed to wipe the stone down to lift off the particles the oil(?) fluid(!) had floated up. That also lightened the stone. Now, that was almost an exciting experience. So I added the fluid to the stone and began sharpening others knives that were not their best. Using the fluid, I was able to get better results faster than without. and, yes, I re-tested some of the knives the old way. Better with the fluid. >.. Two drops seems to work best, spread over the surface of the stone. Three is OK, but too much is too much. >.. No comment on Amazon, their website, or the package as being food safe, so after sharpening, I wipe them down, and food knives get washed and DRIED. Good on Carbon Steel, stainless steel, and patterned steel, and specialty Asian knives with hard steel surrounded by softer steel (isn't REALLY Damascus steel, but they are beautiful knives). All sharpen much easier than they had before. And stay sharper.

Smith's honing solution
After not really liking the honing steel that came with my kitchen knifes, I bought a honing stone and used water to lubricate. I didn't like that the water dried up or soaked into the stone fast. I bought Smith's honing solution to try it. It was much better than water and sharpening my knifes when a lot better. After done honing, the stone cleans up well.

Perfect Honing OIl
This is quite used and appreciated for sharpening knives and cutting tools using mineral based e.g. Aluminium oxide oil stones. Is light and supports to sharpen while spreading the slur collected. Great product although price is around 3-4 USD only in USA but in India is charged a premium. But thanks to amazon that such products which are neither made or easily available in shops or online in India are available now. The 5 star rating is for the product. The seller will great 1 or 2 star only for escalating the price so much. THANKS

Good alternative to water
Up to now I have used my stones with either water or nothing at all (diamonds). Reviewing some literature that suggested that even diamond stones benefit from a honing oil I thought i would try this. The price was right and you need only a very small quantity. Without doing a large trial on various blades I was impressed with its action on a medium diamond stone: The small blade (stainless) got sharp very quickly, possibly quicker than when doing the same dry. The product is a very low viscosity and soaks into traditional stones. I am not sure if one has to use a bit more there. Either way I am glad I no longer have to worry about rust while using water. Honestly, at the price why not give it a try?

A Must For Use With All Diamond Stones!
I own a couple of Smith's Diamond Stones and had previously used to sharpen my knives either dry or with water, or a mixture of detergent and water After some research, I found out the best way to sharpen my knives with my Smiths diamond stones was with their own brand honing solution. Wowsers what a difference it immediately made!. These 2 products were made for one another It radically increased the speed I can sharpen my chef's knives and makes the whole sharpening experience easier There are a few similar on the market but for the crazy inexpensive price for the amount I totally recommend buying one or two.. I purchased 2 bottles and now always use them when sharpening on my diamond stones Once again another Amazon 5 Star ???? ???????????????? product! Great Price, Great Quality and Supersonic Delivery Speed!! ????????☺️

VERY happy with this.
Works really well, keeping my stones from drying, or sticking, and the "slush" created seems to help with sharpening. The oil also makes everything easier to clean. Just wishing I bought more of it!!!! will definitely be re-buying.

useless
Poor ineffective. Seems to be water based, I tried to use it to clean my stones as it was useless for honing. It fails at that as well. Try Nathan's Natural Honing Oil, from Lansky Sharpeners
