How to catch a bass in 3 easy steps!
Step 1.) Listen to your southern friends and buy a Devil's Horse. There's a reason this was in your grandpa's tackle box and they keep making this lure to this day, and there is a reason anglers in the south swear by this lure. It works. No, it isn't a trendy flavor-of-the-month lure, but the fact this has been produced for decades should tell you something! Step 2.) Watch a quick video on how to fish this lure. I recommend Roland Martin's "ABCs of Devil's Horse" video on YouTube. It's extremely simple and very similar to fishing a popper. Just a little twitch here and there, then let it sit. The bass will think it's a dying baitfish and an easy meal. And honestly? Because of how simple this is to fish, you might even consider this for a youngster you're taking out to fish to help them catch their first bass! Step 3.) Wait for the inevitable aggressive bite you're going to get, reel in your catch, and have other fishermen at your fishin' hole ask what lure you're using. I reeled in a 4 pound bass on my second cast with this thing as a VERY pressured public pond. Everyone around me were fishing the usual stuff. Senkos, whopper ploppers, you name it. No one was catching a thing. I show up with a lure whose design is old enough to have an AARP card, and two casts into it, I got the most aggressive bite of my life. About an hour later, I got another bite. This bass was smaller, maybe 2 pounds, but you have to understand how lousy the fishing is at this particular local pond. I couldn't even imagine how effective this lure must be if you're out on a boat or fishing a private pond. Anyway, that's been my experience. I'm not a pro, I'm just some guy who casually took up bass fishing about 2 years ago. I heard old timers and some southern friends talking about this secret weapon of a lure, and I'm so glad I bought it.

Top-water dual-prop catches all the big ones!
I'm glad I have this lure. For quite a few years now I've used it in all the colors it comes in and it has only produced big fish to include a jumbo bluegill believe it or not. I was amazed when that baby slammed my Devil's Horse and I felt super happy that day. Been using them ever since. Buy it if you want the same experience!

The Devil's Horse is a oldie but goodie.
The Smithwick Devil's Horse is an old surface lure that still drives fish crazy unlike the newer ones on the market now days. It can be modified also by changing the rear hook for a larger heavier one that makes the lure sit different in the water with it'd nose sticking up. A tiny twitch makes it nod and dance on the surface for a nice strike. I found the Yellow with Black back good as well as the all black one which are hard to find now.
