Easy set up
As a person who isn’t good at this sort of job, I installed this easily and quickly myself, which is a big plus. The water tastes good and the canister appears to be easy to open to replace filters. If you are looking for a simple under sink system, I’d recommend this one.

Nice Quality, Great taste, No Filter!
This is a nice quality filter housing that has a variety of filters you can choose from to use with it. So you can either get a cheap chlorine filter ($13) or you can get the more expensive kind that removes cysts and volatile chemicals too(FXUVC $25 on Amazon). This is relatively bulky compared to other in-line filters, however that means you get a bigger filter that theoretically should last longer. Even though their filters are only rated at six months I'm expecting to get at least twice that much use out of it. I actually purchased this to hook up in line with my refrigerator but it was too bulky to fit behind it. Expect to spend at least $10- $20 just on plumbing fittings/ hose to hook this up. I hooked it up below our sink to the cold water line. It took three brass fittings and one faucet hookup hose and a lot of Teflon tape. I had to have an old plumber at Home Depot work with me for ten minutes figuring out what I needed. I bought the top-of-the-line FXUVC filter through Amazon which was $25 and overall I saved a good $30 from buying everything together at a big box store. I like the 3/8" threaded connections which are very solid and I'm not worried about it leaking or breaking. I did not wall mount this since it wasn't necessary under my sink and it would make it harder to change the filter. I just stabilized it with a zip tie and called it a day. There was a small reduction in water pressure but it's not bad and is probably because this expensive filter has multiple layers. I thought about making this a two stage system by using two of these in line but I can always do that at a later date and may not be necessary. The water tastes great so far!

Good filter but there are hidden costs
I have had a GE filter for many years. When I remodeled my kitchen last month, I swapped out my old GE filter system with this one, which is the latest version of what I had before. Water tastes great through this, and in my experience, the filter cartridge is good for MUCH longer than the six months that GE states in the users' manual. One problem is that it came with no installation hardware besides the filter case and mounting bracket. There were no hoses, fittings or connectors. This was not clear to me when I bought it, so I had to go to a hardware store and get $12 worth of hardware to hook it up. Once connected, it does make great tasting water, which we use for coffee, tea, cooking (such as water for pasta cooking) and general drinking. It completely takes away the chlorine taste of my municipal water. I recommend the GE GX1S01R filter for its great tasting water and long lasting filters, but be prepared to spend another $10-15 for installation hardware.

Really makes our life better
I have used this unit in another home and loved it then and no change now. We use it for our drinking water at the kitchen sink. My wife is English and she drinks tea repeatedly during the day. Before I installed this filter we could smell chlorine when the water was boiling in the kettle. After I installed this the water does not have any smell when boiling and taste better and smoother. There is a kit you can buy for the supply connections but I just pick up what is needed at the local hardware store. Two reducing nipples and one supply line. I use a longer supply line if mounting to the back wall so I can just lift the filter up from the mounting screws and bring it out to the front of the cabinet to change out the filter cartridge. Either that or install along the front/side of the cabinet for easy access but then it can be in the way. There are various filter cartridges you can buy for this filter depending on exactly what you want taken out of the water. Much less expensive than reverse osmosis or water softners. GE also makes a dual water filter that looks like two of these side by side if you want particles removed and are worried about smell from chlorine or other chemicals.

Inexpensive solution for water - USE PIPE DOPE!!
I had to buy two of them because the first one hissed and leaked so badly. I read another reviewer's suggestion as to how he solved the problem with gorilla glue and so I tried that. I let it set for several hours and tried it again and it did not work. The second one I received I used pipe dope. This is a *much* better solution. Wrap your fittings with a few rounds of teflon tape, swab some pipe dope on the outside of the tape, and screw it in. It worked on the first try and I have no leaks (crossing my fingers). This is a very inexpensive solution compared to buying a ton of Brita filters or buying a reverse osmosis system (which would've required paying someone to drill into our granite countertop). RO may taste better but I think my kids need their fluoride ... it's better for their teeth. Cheers to better tasting water!

Easy install with no leaks
I wasn't pleased with flow rate from the existing Brita filter and having to discard relatively expensive and hard to find twist-on cylinders of plastic into the landfill. The installation of the GE filtration system was straight forward and involved threading 3/8 inch WATTS quick connect adapters (PL-3826) to each side of the filter after wrapping each with Teflon tape. I purchased the WATTS adapters locally for about $10 total. I then inserted the 3/8 inch plastic water lines that connected to the water valve and the faucet under the sink (I was able to reuse the existing water lines). Mounting the filter base only required installing 2 screws in the backboard of the sink cabinet. Be certain the backboard is stout enough to support filter system and locate it so as to facilitate later replacing the filter. The GE filter canister accepts several different types replacement filters depending on your filtration needs. Placing the filter in the canister and threading it on presented no issues (or leaks) but I did purchase the GE plastic wrench which helped. The flow from the faucet has notably increased and the water quality is equal to or better than with the other filter. The GX1S01R does not come with connectors, water line or a filter but 2 mounting screws are included.

Works great. Only issue was getting a seal on the inlet port (3/8 female NPT thread). Had to really torque in a brass fitting, but now it seems fine.
