Small but significant changes over the years

Since 2005, this is the third InSinkErator instant water heater we've installed. A 5-year longevity seems unnecessarily short, but apparently this lifespan is not uncommon. We've considered other brands but several factors have led us back to InSinkerator. Other brands might be tankless but their plumbing needs are different enough to cause some inconvenience in hooking them up. With InSinkErator the same wall mounting bracket can be used, so the new unit can just be hung on the wall without having to measure and install the bracket. One annoying change, however, is that the heater is usually sold with a one-handle or two-handle dispenser faucet, causing us to be unable just to replace the tank. A new two-handlione faucet came with our purchase. Previously, since the new two-handle faucet easily replaced the old one, no muss, no fuss. We use the faucet for the instant hot water that InSinkErator supplies, along with the cool water from our reverse osmosis filtration unit. This time, the new two-handle faucet was a tad too large to fit into the hole that had been occupied by its two predecessors over the years. Since the countertop material was engineered stone, enlarging the hole was a big challenge. We ended up swapping the locations of the two-handle faucet and the soap dispenser pump because the holes were adequate sizes. What could have been a low-difficulty DIY installation turned into a frustrating afternoon. Finally, though our two previous dispensers were brushed nickel to match the main hardware, this unit could only be found with a shiny chrome faucet. Now, let's see if this new unit, like our 3 others, will last only 5 years before we have to go through this again.

Works great, breaks often

We purchased our first InSinkErator Aug. 7, 2017, and it worked great...but only for 17 months. It died (no longer heated) in March of 2019 and InSinkErator replaced it w/o much hassle. The replacement then died in May of 2020 (probably from Covid1,) after only 14 months. So that's 3 different units in 2 1/2 years. Not a great longevity. It's a good thing it had a 3-year warranty. However, I had to fight for them to pay for the third one's installation. They claimed the warranty had expired. Thankfully, I keep good records and could prove the original order date and number, so they eventually agreed to cover the costs. But that took almost 40 minutes on the phone to get done. The customer rep. Lester was very nice, but getting the approval for the replacement. aggravating and certainly did not represent good customer service. . I won't ever be buying this brand again.

Worth every penny! Would highly recommend it.

Love it! I had it installed at the same time as our reverse osmosis system. Even though it was placed right next to the garbage disposal, I can still easily see and control the temperature. At the middle setting it heats the water just right for hot tea / beverages. It’s proven quite handy for “sanitizing” my water bottles etc. too!

Kitchen essential!

After owning one for many years (love it), I bought one for my daughter’s new home. If you have a crowded area under the sink, you may have to rearrange things (garbage disposal, etc), but with patience and a bit of “handyman” experience the reward is great. Never a regret in owning this hot water tap.

Hot water, filtered, use install, happy mama!

Easy to install, my husband and 17 yo son got in done in an evening. Water takes great, we got the filter. And made myself a cup of tea, water registered at just below 130!

Bottom blew out after 2.5 years , wrecked my cabinet

I've had this product for just under 3 years and it's been great....until recently. Barely any water would come out and it would take a good minute or so to get it going. I finally realized that somehow the whole bottom of the unit cracked / blew out and when you push the hot water lever, the water was coming out of the crack, destroying the bottom of my cabinet. I now have to purchase a whole new unit, not to mention the damage to my cabinet...unless insinkerator will cover anything under the warranty. Other than that, it was great, but I was hoping to get more than 2.5 years out of it.

Replaced older unit with a bit of work.

The unit was purchased to replace an 8 year InstaHot unit that developed a leak. This unit is supposed to be better because of a SS tank. Only problem was the diameter of the hole in our granite sink top was too small to accomodate the new faucets. Took about 45 minutes with a Dremel Tool to grind out the hole to a larger diameter. After that, everything was a breeze.

So far so good

This is a replacement for my very old and dead InSinkErator instant hot/cold water heater and dispenser. The old instant water heater smell bad after only one year of use and the instant hot water dispenser the moving part inside got stuck easily and difficult to repair, and eventually stuck forever and beyond repair (I am running distilled water no mineral). Hope this one is better. I have been using it for one week or so, so far so good.

Faucet leaks a little from the front

Good product, heats up the water well, I love having the instant hot water but the faucet leaks a little from the front. Not sure if I have to screw it or what, it drips for a while after I finish filling my cup, not a big deal.
