I LOVE THIS VACUUM
SHARK RULES. Yes, the people who complained about the unit tipping over when you went to use the hose are right. The hose doesn't really expand and has limited reach which is a pain when doing stairs, or tops of windows, or corners of the ceiling. And if I could, would take off 1/2 a star because of that. Then again, they are inconveniences, not end of the world problems. There is no PERFECT vacuum cleaner. My biggest complaint about them all is they should the kind of cord retraction on them that those retractable dog leashes have so you don't trip over and tangle over the cord. Another inconvenience. ON THE OTHER HAND, this vacuum really sucks! Over the last 20 years we have been through countless vacuums, spending a small fortune on Orecks and Eurekas, on Hoovers and even a robo vacuum cleaner - which was okay in that I could do other things while it took care of business. A few years ago, we gave in and bought a high end Dyson. At the time $400!! and it was the worst purchase ever. Not that it didn't work, but it was heavy, it didn't really have a carpet beater brush, the canister was difficult to remove and as a canister cleaner it took up a lot of room. So when I saw a Shark stick vacuum at Costco one day, purchased that and it has been my go-to vacuum for years now. But its a stick vacuum. Not meant for the entire house, week after week. We live in the desert and have a dog that LOVES to roll in the dirt and then come in and roll over the rug. We don't take off our shoes when we come in. So we have dog hair, and DIRT DIRT DIRT. Just did my first sweep through with this Shark LIft-Away and was totally AWED at the amount of that dirt that came up. From deep down as the beater brushes on this thing really move the carpet fibers. and every room, so much of this fine silt came up you would think I hadn't vacuumed in the 20 years we've lived here. The instructions say to clean the filter once a month, but this moved so much dirt after doing the house, I cleaned the filter and washed out the dirt catching canister. Am hoping that after a few passes, it will have gotten a lot of the deep dirt and hair out and then will be a little less intense, and we'll have a lot cleaner house for it! Thank you Shark!!

this is MOSTLY a good vaccuum
the bad: (reason for taking off one star) -- FALLS OVER all the time, so irritating -- dismantling to utilize the other functions is CUMBERSOME and reduces suction -- head of vac WILL NOT fit under bed in order to vacuum under bed -- accessories that rest on the wand base (stem) of the upright fall off all the time, bad design -- hose (is a joke!), when using only the 'wand' part, the hose does not stretch adequately, which makes it cumbersome, which also adds to the vac falling over the good: -- great suction! -- as an upright on hardwood floors and area rugs -- just grab, plug and go! -- not bulky or heavy when handling or when using -- emptying and cleaning is easy, the (dust) housing can even be washed completely w/soap and water -- no bags needed -- replacing the filters (of which there are THREE -- which i feel is a good thing) is easy peasy -- replacement filters, all of them, are easy to find/purchase online -- if you are frugal/thrifty the filters are durable, therefore 'washable' and reusable -- all of them! -- power on/off button is easily accessed -- has two modes -- one for floors and one for rugs, both work well -- head is pretty narrow, therefore fits in SOME narrow spaces between furniture and walls takeaway -- this vac suits my needs. I personally DO NOT use it to vacuum curtains or ceilings or under my bed. But I DO use it on my hardwood floors, kitchen linoleum, area rugs, between cushions on the sofa, and parlor chairs, and pull the wand our of main stem to vacuum shelves in kitchen and around the toilet. (of note -- Shark brand accessories are a 'special' size -- which in general I hate about vac companies because (Newsflash!) not ONE vacuum has ALL the perfect attachments/accessories. I have collected many through the years, some of which do not work on this Shark. This is a drag and cumbersome when affixing rubber bands/tape/etc. to make them fit on this machine)

Dog Hair Hero
I have a German Shepherd super shedder. thankfully only my upstairs room is carpeted but I needed a new vacuum that would work well without breaking the bank. This vacuum is exactly what I needed. It does an excellent job of picking up the dog hair and has good attachments to keep my couch clean as well. Highly Recommended!

It Sucks!
Wow! Number 1 chore I hate is vacumning... not anymore! By far the best vacumn I have ever owned. The suction power is amazingly strong, picking up everything in its path. Removing dirt cup easy as is cleaning filter as recommended. Only complaint, does not go under the bed, had to detach cannister & hand hold with attachment & lay on my stomach. My bed is 8 inchs off the floor. Easy to assemble in less then 5 minutes. Great buy after my last vacumn purchase 12 years ago. Would buy again!

Best vacuum we've ever had
I think this is an amazing purchase. We've had this for a year, so I've used it quite a bit. I have long hair and it vacuums it all up, as well as cat hair. We also have a toddler who spills crumbs all over the couch and it's easy to clean up. We have wooden floors, low-area rugs, and shag rugs and it does a great job on all three. I think it's a really easy-to-use vacuum so not sure what the trouble is for other users. It's gross but very satisfying to have a clear container to see all that is being picked up. At a glance, you think your floors are clean but this vacuum will still pick up a ton and prove it to you! Two piece of feedback: 1) I know the attachment brush is supposed to help with pet hair or something, but I really would prefer a real brush, not the velvet one it comes with. 2) This is the reason for the 4 stars: I had this problem with every single vacuum I've ever had: why is the hose so short?! I want to use this detachable hose to get cobwebs or the stairs but it doesn't stretch more than a foot or so, which makes it kind of useless for those purposes; i can't reach the ceiling or get the stairs without have the vacuum sit on the actual stair I'm trying to clean. I really wish there was a much longer hose.

Good value at the C$250 price point, some limitations
Suction is good, filter and bagless canister cleaning is easy, weight and handling in open areas is good but in tight spots the full assembly can be a little awkward, in line with other uprights. The upholstery brush has two strips of fabric glued into grooves as the "brush" portion of the nozzle, and these strips can easily be pulled off during routine cleaning, without putting excessive pressure on them. The hose is a bit stiff and short, and using it while the machine is fully assembled and standing on the floor will generally result in tipping the vacuum. It's fine for working with the canister lifted off the floor cleaning head. There is no pile height adjustment, and the floor cleaning brushes are fairly aggressive; this machine removes a lot of carpet fibres from my low-pile nylon carpets. Very glad the brush can be turned off for bare floors.

Great suction. Light weight. Easy to use and assemble.
Very good product. It looks like it’s from the 90s but it works like a properly designed and built classic. The only complaint i have is that the hose is a bit short, not good for vacuuming counter tops or shelves.

Amazing suction power
So far, we love everything about this vacuum. I'm blown away by the power/suction it has. Not only does it pick up everything off of a rug, but also wood and linoleum floors (which is what we have mostly) but we use those vacuum-seal bags to store off-season clothes and linens and it sucks so much more air out sooo quickly! Our old vacuum was so lame compared to this one. But we have a big rug and a runner, and probably getting more rugs later. I like the fact that you can take the small canister off and use the extension wand to clean corners and up above on the ceiling (we have fairly high ceilings). It's also very lightweight and doesn't take up a lot of space. It fits in a cupboard we bought to store it, that is 16"x16"x 6'. We've only had it for a month, but our son and his girlfriend bought the vacuum and I went to look at it before we ordered it and they've had it for a few months and have no complaints about it. I'm really happy we spent a little extra to get this one. We haven't used it a lot, so haven't had to empty the canister yet, but my son showed me how to do it and it looks like a breeze. The other thing, is that it does pull easier than push and we're vacuuming a .5" pile carpet. Of course on the wood/linoleum floors, no problems. The one thing I was not happy about is that I tried to call the Customer Service number 15 min. before their posted closing time and they were closed and when I sent them an email it bounced. I've not yet pursued that, but I will. My son said they had no problems with them when they discovered they were missing one of the brushes and it was sent to them.. We also didn't get the pet brush that was supposed to come with it, but we don't have any pets, so not an issue for us. Overall, I'd say that this is a great product and with the short time we've had it, we like it.

Amazing!
This is an amazing vacuum! It has incredible maneuverability, a great aspect for people with 2 large dogs, and incredible suction. We didn't know how poorly our old vacuum was functioning until we got our Shar; the amount of built up dirt in our carpets wascadtounding. None now!! Carpets look clean. House smells fresh, not like dogs! I'm no longer embarrassed to have people over.
