Use 60” fabric and remove the back seam

Definetly buy 60” fabric. Modifications: remove the seam allowance from the back piece and create a fold line instead. It removes the seam from the back and it looks soooooo much better. Use a pretty frog closure instead of a button and elastic. Attach the pockets, then sew the shoulder seams, and THEN the sleeves to the body (do not sew the sleeve seam yet!). Finally, sew from wrist to hem in one go. It was so much easier that way. Here’s what really took my robe from obviously homemade to deluxe quality: forget the interfacing. using only the pocket, hood, front, back, and sleeve pieces, make, essentially, two robes (you’ll have a reversible garment at the end). Use all black for one. Then black back, and your house color for the sleeves, front and hood. With right sides together, sew all the way around, leaving about a 7” gap at the bottom to turn right-side-out. Then hem sleeves. You have to increase your fabric requirements, but it makes such a beautiful robe with a fantastic drape. I used a really light weight interfacing on my first attempt and it just doesn’t drape correctly and the contrasting color panel is too narrow.

Excellent and easy!

Love this pattern. This is my second one! It has a lot to offer- there’s a shirt pattern, a tie pattern and the robe- in kids XS to L and also a whole another pattern set in adult XS to L, all included. I’ve only made the robe (three times so far) I used flannel and skipped the interfacing, and it was really really easy to make. I’ve bought two of this pattern to get various sizes. In my humble opinion, this may run a bit large. Normally I’m adult XXL and the adult M was comfortable on me, but it’s easy to fit to size, and robes are by nature big and flowing. The Gryffindor robe is for a child and was also just a bit large but kids sizes are always tricky, and she loved it so much anyway. Heck, it’ll fit in a week the way kids grow lol. I’ve sewn forever and found this super easy, but I’m sure a beginner could handle this pattern too. Simplicity always gives great directions and illustrations. (And if you get stuck go turn your own clothes inside out and see how they’re made.) PS: to reviewer ang- I added wand pockets too, (on the contrast interfacing.)

Not for beginners

I am not a novice seamstress so I was able to do it, but it should be noted that this isn't for beginners. Some of the directions were worded weird so it was a little confusing. Otherwise, the costume looks great.

Would change the sleeves

Super easy pattern! Love that it came with multiple sizes all in one. The only change I would make would be to line the sleeves with the hood color as well. The cut of the sleeves is diagonal so you can see the seam. Honestly, my daughter doesnt seem to care and has thoroughly enjoyed her robes.

Lining

I didn't love this pattern, but it did work! The sizing was pretty spot on. I made four robes with this pattern. I followed the instructions with the first robe, and I thought it was very confusing. So then I decided to completely line the whole pattern, and they came together so much better! The sleeves had that nice pop of red! I highly recommend lining the whole thing!! Looks so much cuter!!

Made two for Halloween

My grandkids and I are enjoying reading through the HP books. They enjoy the "magic" and the imagination as I do. When they decided to be characters from the series for Halloween, I was thrilled. This pattern was easy to use. Took about a day per robe. I got really good material so I don't think I saved much over purchasing at Universal but I enjoyed making for my little ones.
