Schlage Antique Brass Passage Lever Handle Door Knob

Greetings! I bought three of these lever handles for my home. Also, replacing my bed & bath privacy knobs with this same Elan style level handled knob. Changing from very old narrow, flat style round knobs to these levers. At 62 years of age, I have found the levers much easier to operate, as I move into the latter years of my life, lol. I have been working facilities maintenance at the same company for over 20 years. Approximately 90% of our interior door hardware is Schlage. Passage and Privacy. We use a commercial grade of hardware due to the high usage. I have never had to replace any of the hardware due to failure. I have replace one occasionally due simply to cosmetic wear, keeping in mind that most of this hardware is at least 25 or more years old. So when I decided to upgrade the door knobs in my home, I naturally chose Schlage. I have a 2" hole in my doors, with a 2-3/8" backset. They installed perfectly, easily and quickly for me. I posted a photo with this review because I didn't believe the photo in the product description was accurately representative of the color of the product, at least I hoped it wasn't. To me, it looked closer to bright brass, than antique brass. These do not have the highest security rating you can get but they are a very hearty product. For most interior applications, I don't believe it is necessary to spend a good deal of extra money for high security commercial knobs. However, in my opinion these are a substantial build product for the price. Some of these things you might pick up have hardly any weight to them at all. These have a very smooth operation but don't forget, at some point, they may require lubrication, if they become stiff to operate. I have just recently purchased these so I can't speak to how they actually hold up, other than my past experience with the brand but so far I am very happy with my purchase. Amazon did not have these in stock but they were available thru Amazon from other sellers. I got mine from Buildcom in 2 days via FedEx with Prime.

Schlage Elan leversets

I bought four of these through the Amazon site and their subsidiary seller. They turned out to be seconds or damaged or take offs and had scratches and gouges. The price was good, I had no desire to send them back due in part to postage costs so I had to install them carefully putting the damaged handles inside the closets, etc. where they did not show. It worked out ok... That said, the units themselves, though they were a bit disheveled, are very nice units in terms of operation and appearance (when new) and I like them a lot. The outside door locksets on the house are all levers by Baldwin, about twice the money MSRP, and these Schlage Elan units compare favorably. I bought five more units from an outside, i.e., not Amazon, source and am very happy with them. They were actually new and the price was good. I guess that's the way it goes when you try to buy too cheaply.

Amazing difference

This was a replacement passage set (no lock) between our garage and the house that had a standard round knob. 1st of all, Schlage quality is top notch. I have buying their product for years (used to be a remodel contractor) and have never had reason not to continue doing so. The convenience of having the lever is even greater than my wife and I anticipated. There were levers throughout the house other than this particular door, the busiest one in the house. The advantage of a lever that you can trip w a wide range of appendages and objects over having to grip and turn a knob far outweigh the cost of the set. After 5 minutes to install it, we wondered why we had delayed as long as we did before changing it.

So happy to find this online.

I chose this rating because the product is great. The only drawback was that the plate that goes on the jam was different than the original that I had to replace and would have required some cutting out, which I was not able to do. However, I was able to leave the other one there and just attach the new levers on either side of the door. I am so pleased that I was able to replace my broken lever with one that matches all the others in my home; I had searched several stores and no one carried that style.

We had these in our old house and knew when we moved we would get these again for our new house. Feel well made and hold up well to a 3 year old that likes to hang from them from time to time.

Very happy with these passage levers on my entry doors. They are made in Mexico and are ANSI/BHMA rated for 400,000 cycles (commercial grade 2 or residential grade A). The only difference between the "residential" and "commercial" version is the door latch faceplate - residential version has the option to use no faceplate or a faceplate with rounded corners while the commercial version has a faceplate with squared corners.

Works perfect

I've purchased 4 of these brushed chrome finished handles. 2 were a little bit shinier than the other 2 (bought on separate orders) but overall these handles work perfectly and I'm very happy with the quality.
