New generation = tough break-in period and limited life

I have bought about 5-7 pairs of this shoe in the last ten or so years. Unfortunately, what I heard about the diminished quality of this generation is correct. I received the shoe just prior to shooting video at a trade show. Lots of time on my feet hauling gear. I like these shoes in black because they have all the capability of a hiking shoe while appearing fairly professional. This pair had a painful break-in period that I have never experienced in any previous pair. I'm used to comfort out of the box with Salomon but it seems like they have substantial changed materials and manufacturing processes. If you do plan to purchase these, be aware. I received the shoes at the beginning of May. They became my go-to, everyday shoe (as did all other generations of these shoes). I do a bit of running in them as well, but not as much as I'd like. The main reason to pay over $150 for these shoes is that with the Gore-Tex I don't have to question whether I'm putting the right shoes on for any activity - working in the yard or going for a jog on a rainy day is no problem. However, after only 5-6 months of regular wear, the material at the toe cap is separating from the rest of the shoe. This renders the Gore-Tex useless at waterproofing. I typically expected about a year of actual waterproof wear from these shoes before. I have always been a Salomon fan since I discovered the brand in the scratch and dent section at REI over a decade ago. My past experiences gave me no reason to look into other brands. Unfortunately it seems like the brand is choosing to go into a direction leaning towards urban aesthetics and is integrating new, lower quality manufacturing processes into its legacy designs. I'm a bit sad because they have been so dependable before. I can't justify spending even more money on the shoes when they are headed to the landfill twice as fast. Too bad.

Perfect fit as always, all Salomon shoes that I bought are True to size. And as you spect form Salomon, excellent shoes, boots my favorite brand now in days.

Good shoe, not great like they used to be, NOT WATERPROOF

Ive owned Salomon shoes for at least 10 years, they’ve always been highly durable and comfortable shoes that I would primarily use for work, in the past definitely 5 stars. More recently in the past 2 years or so they must have changed the support/ foam in the shoe as they last 1/3 the amount of time. The exterior lasts fine but they become uncomfortable after about 5-6months of regular use. Also, the water proofing as claimed on this model description/ features is simply not true. They may be slightly water resistant but if you have water over the toe level your getting soggy feet. I have hope they’ll step up their game as i love the speed laces and they are comfortable for all day wear until about the 5 month mark. I will be trying one more pair and if they aren't returning to durability like the past then Ill begin looking at other brands.

Twice as nice

I was a big adidas fan because their shoes ran wide normally, they looked good and didn't really buy any other brand besides theirs, until they strayed from making good looking shoes. I'm really glad I found these Salomons! So happy with them that I bought a second pair right away (I'm gun shy to a harsh reality that they will probably change, as well). Honestly, I wasn't sure how well this lacing system would work, but I was pleasantly surprised to find how much I disliked the conventional lacing method; this is so easy and fast! I wear a size 12 and they fit very well right out of the box and required very little, if any, break-in period. The issue that was going to have a negative impact on my rating was the soles squeaked like I had just been outside in the rain, but that went away after a day. PS: I'm not a hiker, but I did walk through some fairly high, wet grass once and my feet stayed dry!

Very comfortable

This is my forth pair of this shoe. Super waterproof. Use them for casual hiking, walking the dog in wet weather all year round. Like the lace system, never had an issue with it. Last pair not as durable as previous shoe, welt is too thin and fragile and once it tears, water gets in, will try to repair with rubber glue. Hopefully new ones don’t suffer the same issue. Great looking shoe!

Very good shoes. But need to fix tongue issue.

Pretty damn good shoe. Light, comfy, breathable shoe with good grip. Love the quick lace system ( I have quick lace on my salomon blades, I got along time ago hahah. Best blades I ever owned). And they look pretty cool ???? Only con, the right shoe tongue is a bit shorter than the left, which causes the tongue to bunch down into the shoe over time. Can be annoying. Which brings me to my 4 of 5 ⭐ rating.

Top top trail shoes!

These are the best trail shoes on the market. Slightly tighter foot than previous models but what a pair of shoes. Look just as good as casual footwear for social use. Always my number one choice in running shoes / trainers.
