Works great but leaves sticky residue
I bought these Safety 1st straps to use on anything that my toddler boys could open. They are so easy to install (adhere). The adhesive is very strong. These worked great and kept the monsters at bay! I used these on the toilet, stove, medicine cabinet, dresser drawers, fish tank, a safety gate that could open with sticky toddler hands, and some kitchen cabinets. Eventually I could remove most because my kids learned that these places are no longer fun and it hasn't been an issue since. So they worked as an easy training device too. I have a few complaints. First you need to be very sure where you want to place these. Once placed you can't change your mind and move them because it will tear the sticky off and not be usable again (once and done type of product). Once in place these are there for the long run. You will need rubbing alcohol mixed with water and a gentle scrubber to get the residue off. Be cautious of what surface these are used on. One I used was connected to a kitchen wall and it took paint chips off with it. I also had a couple break. The plastic strap broke early into use so I had to replace them. These were used on the kitchen cabinets which were opened often so maybe the wear and tear was too much. They are cheap so I always had a few extras on hand. These complaints are minor because the product worked and I don't think there is any perfect solution so 4 of 5 stars. Shipped fast, arrived on time, packaged well.

Does its job
I know many other reviews addressed some complaints how it leaves a dot on the surface you stick it on. Personally, I could careless because it does what it intends to do, locks things -in my case, the toilet, where we dont want our little ones to get into. I think it is expected that this would leave some kind of sticky gunk or whatever from the surface it was put on, well, its adhesive- how else do you expect to put it on. Better than other stuff that needs to be screwed on! Its better alternative I believe than having a permanent hole on in your stuff. I love this because for ADHESIVE based locks, it works pretty damn good compared to other ones I've tried that also poses a risk in trusting products to help keep our children safe. I use this for our toilet and it still holding up on the toilet outer rim. I would suggest though that if you do this, stick the lock part on the rim instead of the other piece w/ the strap. Because I stuck the strap piece on the rim and it tend to fold into the toilet seat. And since its hard to get off, I'm kinda stuck with it that way till I completely replace the whole thing. I just wish it came with extra adhesive stuff so it can be used more than one time after being taken off from first usage. You want to keep your children safe, this will definitely work as long as you clean and dry surface before sticking it on.

Works just fine
I have been using this for months, and it works just fine. I read the reviews for this, and a competing product, and ended up getting both of them with the thought of trying them both out. However, once I had this one installed, I found it to work exactly as I wanted it to, so I never got around to trying the other one. I think that some of the negative reviews either just had some bad luck with bad units, or they may have made some mistakes on the install (the directions are garbage), or the surface they tried to install it on wasn't well suited for the adhesive of the unit. Like I said, I have had this unit installed for months, with no problems. It is installed on our freezer door -- not for the purpose of keeping children out, but for the purpose of keeping the frozen stuff IN. The freezer door is broken, and while we work on getting it replaced, this has been the handy dandy solution to the problem of food shifting in the freezer, and pressing the door open, causing the food to defrost over night. Ever since I installed this unit, that problem has been 100% solved. And, the freezer is a high traffic area in our house, we go into that sucker AT LEAST twice a day, every day. So, that latch & strap unit is getting a workout from us. So far, there have been no issues. I installed it fairly taught, and I pressed down on the adhesive during the install phase for about double the amount of time the directions say to hold down, and so far, the unit hasn't budged. 4 stars :)

Finally a solution for the sliding closet doors in our apartment!
These have been a lifesaver! We live in an apartment with mirrored closet doors in both bedrooms. Of course, my toddler pulls everything out of the two closets in his room. I have to be very careful about what gets put in there (since one is storage and the other is for items he can't play with by himself as well as our board games). These have been a true lifesaver! I put one on each side of the doors and it has been such a fantastic peace of mind! I know he isn't going to pull something over on himself or get into any board games with the small pieces. I still have everything as baby-proof as possible, but he is such a clever stinker. These are just fantastic. -Easy to place -Easy to understand instructions -Durable/Quality materials -Very strong bonding agent -Easy to use unlatching for us adults READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. ONCE THE SNAPPING PIECE IS CLOSED, IT IS MEANT TO BE PERMANENT! I DIDN'T KNOW THIS AND I HAD TO PRY IT OPEN WITH A SCREW DRIVER. My fault. I was too excited to see how it worked to read the instructions. It is a bit of a bummer that they can't be reused for future items at a different size but they weren't expensive for the amount of help they give us. So I would buy again.

Easy to install
I have had these on our cupboards for a while now and our kids haven't figured out how to open them yet. Very durable and take quite the beating. Excellent. Update: March 30, 2020 - They are finally starting to break after 7 months of being on the cupboards. Mainly the clear plastic parts are breaking and this is due to regular usage.

A bit tough to readjust before installing.
Did exactly the job we needed. Lower rating simply because you do have to pry it open very hard to adjust the strap length - which isn't a big deal once you've installed, and undoing it does need a fair amount of pressure. Overall I would buy again. Hoping when removal time comes it doesn't destroy the surface.

Sturdy
We purchased this for the drawer under our oven. Works pretty well, doesn't fall off (I was concerned about this because it's an adhesive mount, but so far it's held). It's difficult to work one handed, but I'm not sure how thAt could be fixed.

Peace of mind, worth it!
I haven't tried to remove them so I don't know if they'll leave a mark, but honestly if they do it will all be worth it. These locks gave up peace of mind with our toddlers, we used them on doors and appliances so far and they work great. They are strong enough that my three years old can't open the doors and the switch is small enough that he still doesn't have the manual precision to pull them open
