Works like a champ
Perfect for my metal lined flue.

Exactly what I Expected.
Only used once so far. Worked fine. Snug fit. Good soot removal action. Just about the right number of strong, stout bristles. Any more and I'd need help changing direction. Fortunately, my flue is straight up/down, no bends.

PERFECT CHIMNEY BRUSH FOR OUR METAL STOVE PIPE
Bought this so my husband could clean our stove pipe instead of paying the chimney sweep $100 ea. winter to do it. This 6" Rutland Poly Chimney Brush is for Metal Stove Pipes ONLY!!! If your Chimney is not Metal you need to purchase the Wire Chimney Brush and vice versa, DO NOT USE A WIRE CHIMNEY BRUSH IN A METAL STOVE PIPE - IT WILL RUIN IT! I bought the Rutland 18ft. Extension Rod to put on the end of it at Home Depot - Amazon didn't have one available to purchase. It all worked like a dream. We have a Manufactured Home with a Wood Stove which has a 6" Metal Stove Pipe. The ceilings in the home are only 8ft tall inside, so he only needed the 18ft. to reach our stove, in fact, I bet not even that much, but when my husband was on the roof and the Poly Brush was on the end of Extension Rod, he just pushed all that soot down the stove pipe into the stove with ease. I vacuumed out the stove and we had a fire in it in under an hour. I hope that helps. I just saved us so much money by having my husband do this instead of hiring someone else to do it, I should've had him do this years ago. *btw Clean up of the Poly Brush was super simple just sprayed it with the garden hose, let it dry and put it back in the box for next year.

Poly Chimney Brush
We used this brush a couple of days ago to clean a strait 16 - 17 ft. wood-stove pipe. We chose poly over metal bristles as not to scratch the inside. It is a great sturdy brush and was wound tightly. Since it was a strait shot from roof to the bottom clean-out access, my husband made a rod out of 2 10-ft' 1/2" round pvc pipes screwed together with pvc connections. Screwed to the bottom was a 1/2" to a 1/4" galvanized pipe reducer which the bristle brush was screwed into. We cleaned from the top of the roof instead of from the bottom. We chose the pvc pipes so we wouldn't have problems with connections or broken rods. We were able to look from the inside of the pipe to see how good a job it did, and it did a great job. The brush was pushed down from the top all the way to the bottom, then pulled back all the way up to the top. A scrubbing action was not possible. The brush wouldn't lets us go up and down. The brush would only let us go down one direction until it came out the bottom. Then we wee able to pull it back up the other direction till free at the top. We pulled apart the chimney pipe from inside the house, took them outside and cleaned them. We cleaned the curved section with a bristle hand brush. I would reccomend using disposable gloves and a breathing mask as the pvc pipe gets black and some dust can blow up at you. We sure needed a cleaning for our pipe, and now we feel comfortable lighting a fire in the stove now!

Works great for double walled 6-inch stove pipe. It's not rocket science...
I purchased this to clean out some 6-inch double-wall stove pipe. This is a poly (plastic) brush and thus won't (shouldn't) scratch the inside lining of the stove pipe. Considering how expensive double-wall stove pipe is these days...best not to damage it. The end of this brush is 1/4 National Pipe Thread (NPT). If you want to make a run to your local hardware store, you can buy a cheap PVC adapter to make this work with with 1/2" PVC pipe, i.e. 1/4" NPT female to 1/2" NPT (male or female...whatever floats your boat). Anyway, I'm uber cheap so I rigged my own pole out of a 4' piece of 1/2" diameter oak dowel collecting dust in my garage. I drilled and tapped the dowel at one end and then screwed in the brush. Done! Anyway, it was a tight fit inside (that's what she said...sorry...it's late and I'm drinking). Because it was so tight, I could only clean in one direction - push in but not pull out (giggle). Two or three passes with a little bit of twisting cleaned several seasons worth of creosote. I could even see glint of stainless steel again. And no...I didn't use any water based cleaner. I did it dry, which is probably a good idea unless you have the patience to dry it all out. I don't. Like I said in my title, it's not rocket science so I don't really know how you screw this up.
