Lacks Long-Term Durability
I have probably spent close to $600 on boots the last couple of years trying to find a pair that I like. I'm not a boot snob. I would just as soon rock a cheap pair of Wally World Brahma boots as the latest and greatest Danners but I've developed foot problems over the years and I have had to reconcile myself to the fact that I am going to have to pony up some cash if I want to get a quality pair of boots that last and don't exacerbate the pain and swelling my feet and ankles go through on a daily basis. The last couple of years I've worn Danners, Merrells, two pairs of Wolverines and these Rocky boots. The Wolverines were overpriced for what they were and had cramped toe boxes even in the wide widths which caused painful corns to form between my toes. They are living out the rest of their days in a landfill. The Danners were the most comfortable boots out of the box that I've ever worn but the leather around the ankles leeched dye onto my socks and the rubber they used for the soles were slippery on hard, wet surfaces making them unsuited for general outdoor wear. They gave up the ghost and came unglued after a about year of hard outdoor use. They were also gortex but were not very breathable. On hot days working in the sun they would fill up with sweat and took forever to dry out. The Merrells had better grip in wet conditions than the Danners, had a roomier toe boxes than the Wolverines but they had some kind of weird arch support that hit on my bone spurs and the way they laced up bound on the arch of my bad left foot uncomfortably. They also lacked in durability. The first time I wore them into the woods the thin rubber on the toe cap got ripped up and punctured by stray sticks. They also were not as waterproof as the Danners but breathed more. After the expensive lesson in planned obsolescence with the Danners I decided I didn't want to spend much more than $100 on a pair of boots. I wanted plain leather general use outdoor boots that would stand up to moderate to hard wear and could be cleaned and maintained with saddle soap and a wax based polish and/ or water sealant. I searched for days in local stores and on Amazon until I found these Rocky boots. I have only worn them for a couple of weeks but I think I can say that I've found "my" boot. All leather construction, suede non leeching padded ankles, nice wide toe box and sized generously for heavy cotton boot socks for summer wear and mid weight wool socks for moderately cold Kentucky winters. The tread is nice and grippy, holds fast to wet rocks and pavement, but is not so thick that you can't feel for sticks and branches while still hunting draws and hollers. The leather looks nice, is more durable than mesh but requires more care than rubber toes. I just cleaned them up with some saddle soap and polished them up with some Kiwi brown shoe polish. They now look better than new and water from the morning dew beads up on them during my daily morning archery session. I already have a tin of snoseal ready for when the weather turns cold and wet. While they don't have the same athletic shoe feel the Danners had they are breaking in nicely and have begun to conform to the irregular contours of my "bad" left foot. I was planning on replacing the insoles when I got them but there is no need. The gortex lining works like its supposed to and keeps my feet dry while crossing the shallow creek that runs through my property. They clean up nice and I'm not ashamed to wear them to town with a nice pair of jeans or khakis. I guess you can tell by now I like these boots. For me they represent the best combination of comfort, durability, value and looks that I have found in my two year long quest to find the perfect all around outdoor boot. I hope that they last for a while and I hope that Rocky keeps making this style of boot without making changes to its design because when these wear out I plan on buying another pair asap. UPDATE: 11/2021 I'm on my second pair of these boots and while they are still my favorite general use casual/outdoor boots they aren't quite up to the five star rating I initially gave them. I wore the first pair for about a year and they stood up to some moderate to hard outdoor wear but I didn't wear them for work until they started to show some age and I decided to get another pair. I began wearing the first pair for work and about a week later the soles came unglued from the uppers so I had to retire them. I suspect this is probably due to the inferior glue boot manufacturers are using these days so you have to buy a new pair of boots every year no matter how well they are maintained or how gently they are treated. Years ago the tread on my work boots would wear out long before they began to come apart but these days most boot makers have figured out that if they design boots to come apart after about a year most people will just go out and buy a new pair. Since I didn't get as much wear out of these boots as I had hoped I sprung for a pair of Keen USA Durands and have been wearing them for most of my outdoor activities and for work the last year or so. They are better for extended outdoor wear having a more athletic feel and tougher construction than these Rocky boots but they also have a nice, wide toe box. I had to go up a size with the Keens to be able to wear medium weight wool socks with them but that's okay. I am still wearing my second pair of Outbacks but they haven't seen as much hard outdoor use as the first pair since I got my Keens. I am wearing them more as casual/everyday, late fall/early winter boots; which, since I live in the sticks, means wearing them outdoors daily just not as much for extended outdoor outings, like hiking, hunting and camping. One of the reasons I liked these boots so much is the fact that they are made to be worn with heavy wool socks. They have enough room with the factory insoles to be worn comfortably with JB Field -40 heavy wool socks which allows me to wear these boots through most of the fall and winter although, since my feet run cold, I prefer insulated boots if I'm going to be outdoors all day when temps dip much below 20 f. I have worn them in the summer with a pair of Dr. Scholls insoles layered over top of the Rocky insoles to give me a better fit when wearing thinner cotton socks and they felt fine but I generally prefer vented, non-waterproof boots for summer wear. When I cleaned them up a few weeks ago I could see that the sole is already beginning to separate from the uppers which is disappointing since I really like these boots a lot and I had hoped that I could make them last a little longer by going easy on them but, as I mentioned above, the glue they are using for these boots seems to fail after about a year regardless of how gently they are treated. I may try to find some kind of shoe glue to see if I can get a few more months out of them but I'm not holding my breath. Since buying these boots I have tried a few different models of Rocky boots and I've found that they vary wildly in terms of fit, quality and durability so that it's a crap shoot weather you're going to get a decent pair of boots that fit well and last or waste your money on landfill-bound garbage. I am deducting a star for the lack of long-term durability. I am going to try a pair of Bean boots next and if they don't live up to the hype I am just going to save up and get a pair of US made Danners that I can have resoled. Buying cheap boots can save you a little money in the short term but considering the hundreds of dollars I have spent on boots that fit poorly or only last a year or less it may be more cost efficient to just bite the bullet and buy a quality pair of boots that I can wear for several years like the old pair of Matterhorn "Ranger" boots I had back in the day. Update : 8/2022 I tried fixing the second pair with some super glue and sealing the cracks that formed between the soles and uppers with "shoe goo" but when new cracks began to form

Great boots!!
My husband blows thru boots like its nobodies business so i it took me about 2 hours reading reviews on a ton of different boots and came across these. From the moment he put them on straight out of the box he loved them. He said they were the best boots he's had so far. He said usually boots are stiff till he wears them in but these were not. We went to visit my son in the military in New Mexico and he loved the look of them and tried my husbands pair on and could not believe how comfortable they were and said i would love a pair of those so I bought him a pair and they are by far his favorite boots.

Perfect hiking boot for me
I am a 10 W and I ordered that size and they fit perfectly. They are lasting better than other hiking boots for the same price so I've ordered several pairs. Very happy with them.

Very good boots
I’ve had these for a little over a year, they are very ???????? and I have bad feet , they came wide and that’s a plus . I’ve worn them hiking , everyday walking they even look good with a nice pair of pants and I’ve worn them to church . And not made in China but made in The Dominican Republic.

A nice boot , could use more padded support
Like the boot, fits well. I had to put a pad insert so it’s not so uncomfortable. Not a big deal, used one from my last pair.

Very Good Hiking Boot
About the only thing that could be better is the insole, but thst can be solved with inserts. First outing, hiked to Vernal falls in Yosemite, which is how I decided they need better inserts. Other than that they were great.

Very Tough Boots That Fit Like a Glove
This is only my second pair of Rocky's the first being a 6" hiker model that I wore out in just over two years. These are similar, only 5" so somewhat less ankle support but just as comfortable and, given the noticeable differences in construction, may well last even longer. I wear these boots everyday practically from sunrise to sunset and they are comfortable providing good arch support. I normally wear an 11 3E shoe but these 12W boots fit perfectly. They're sold in stores so if there's a question about size, make the effort to try them on first to be sure. I can't recommend these boots more highly.
