A keeper despite its many limitations UPDATE: it's growing on me!
I'm developing a love-hate relationship with the M80. I so love Ross' review that I'll quote from it here: "If left unattended, he will get lost and not find his way home and/or will get stuck on the most random objects that I didn't know were possible to get stuck on. Ironically, this morning, Ol Robo-vac was stuck on the bristles of the broom that he somehow knocked down from a corner of the living room and tried to fight. "Even weirder, we have named our robo-vac "Drunky McDrunkBot" because he always decides to go out on a bender every single night and ends up passed out drunk in a random spot of the house. Drunky McDrunkBot has not been programmed for cleaning schedules in the middle of the night and has even had all scheduled tasks deleted." The videos showing you how to use the Deebot depict it roaming around a house devoid of any objects on the floor and certainly no clutter. The polite statement about our house is it is NOT uncluttered and doesn't look like the videos. We have a lot of little pockets of places surrounded by things: Books. Bags of this and that. Cords, LOTS of cords, for all of our electronic objects. Much as with Ross' broom, the M80 will find and ensnare itself on the most unlikely objects. I could go on, but the point is I renamed Drunky McDrunkBot to Snaggle McTangleBot. We had an old phone cord in the master bedroom that I identified as a possible object of M80's affection. No problem: I lifted it up and out of the way. OMG, the Deebot not only found the cord but dragged it across the room, snagged itself, and shut down. Okay, okay, so move the cord FURTHER out of the way. Deebot found it AGAIN, carried it across the room, and shut down. Moved it even more out of the way, same outcome. (I know, since we now we only use cordless phones, I later removed the cord and put it away.) There's a lot to like about the M80. It's quiet. It picks up AMAZING amounts of dirt and dust. Its random movements around the room are entertaining in their awkwardness, but mostly it eventually gets the room clean. I found it useful to turn it on, leave the room, and come back 15-20 minutes later to disentangle it from its latest illicit love affair. At least when it snares something, it stops and waits quietly to be restarted, so you can just let it sit there until you get around to freeing and restarting it. I tried it in a bathroom that contains a bathmat/throw rug. It didn't climb over the rug but turned over the edge, climbed over the edge, got tangled, and stopped. I know: I removed the rug, shook it out, and ran the M80 without the offending object. But still. You need a physical barrier to limit where it cleans. It can trap itself in narrow areas and have no way to escape. It has no knowledge or memory for where it is or how the room is laid out; that feature costs a lot more money, like the M88 at $400. But even the $550 R95 gets tangled on cords. It needs a direct line of sight to the charger to find it and recharge itself, an impossibility in our house. I tried the wet mop option with mixed results. Tough test: let's just say our kitchen floor was overdue for a mopping. It didn't get it clean but did pick up a decent amount of stuff, making it easier for the real mop an hour later. But the tank holds only 80 mL of water (2-2/3 fluid ounces), and it ran dry in less than half an hour. The only way to tell when it runs out of water is to stop it and turn it over. I emailed Ecovacs and asked if you could add a little Windex to the water, and they said no, just water. Not clear why, since the only place the water goes is on the mopping pad. After each use you have to wash and dry the mopping pad that comes with the M80. It's a different shape but the same size as the Swiffer WetJet pads, so maybe Ecovacs should reengineer their robots to use those pads, which are cheap and DISPOSABLE. In short, the mopping option is meh at best: it doesn't clean that much, it doesn't hold much water, and you have to manually wash out the pad after every use. I tried the free Ecovacs app on my iPhone. Pretty useless. True, if you have a simple Wi-Fi layout in your home it should work okay. But we're spread out enough so that I need a W-Fi repeater in the back bedroom, with a different ID and password. So if I take the iPhone to the back, the app loses its connection with the host Wi-Fi and requires you to register everything all over again. Move back to the front and it's lost any knowledge of the original router. Registration requires pushing buttons on the app, the M80, and the enclosed remote. By the way, you need the instructions that show you how to use the remote, because the icons on the remote are inscrutable. So I like that it's quiet (except for occasional banging noises when it hits an object), picks up a lot of dirt, and you can start it up and come back later. And its random movement patterns and creativity in entangling itself in the most amazing ways are endlessly entertaining. It does NOT do deep mopping or vacuuming, so occasionally you need to use a real vacuum cleaner to remove the deep grit that can damage your rug. But it's great for touch-ups and frequent light maintenance. Overall a keeper despite its many limitations. UPDATE 9/3/2017: The M80 is growing on me! We've had this now for about two weeks. I've been in email correspondence with the mothership in China. They clarified a couple of things but mostly reiterated what I already knew. To reiterate: you do need to deep vacuum every month or so to get out imbedded grit. But I've found the Deebot does a TERRIFIC job of picking up surface dust and dirt, and the modest-sized dirt container collects an amazing amount of stuff. And I no longer find crumbs sticking to my feet when I walk around barefoot. It's easy to use once you Deebot--proof the area you're cleaning, like baby-proofing your home when a small child is coming over. It still gets stuck and shuts down every half hour or so. Not a problem: I turn it on and check on it occasionally. It does find weird things to suck into its maw, but I imagine this will happen less often as it repeatedly goes over the same area. I'm still trying to decide if the damp mopping function is worthwhile. Deebot insists you cannot add any ammonia or other cleaning fluid to the water without clogging up the tank, and the tank's tiny capacity limits how big an area it can mop. Having to manually clean the mopping pad is a drag. In retrospect I'd probably have bought the less expensive M79, identical except for the damp mopping. But for me the pros clearly outweigh the cons: quiet, efficient, picks up a lot of stuff. And you can just set it and forget it so long as you check on it periodically.

It sort of works but has some very dangerous bugs. Plenty of room for improvement
I've had this for almost a month now and used it in 3 different houses. My first impression was in a large house with a big mix of carpet, rugs, and tile. They also have a small hairy dog. The vacuum worked amazing and picked up an impressive amount of dirt and dust and hair each battery run (which lasts about 2 hours). I decided to just keep it running all day for a few days until the bin was less than full. I would charge it, run it until empty, and repeat a few times a day for about a week before it finally started to get less full. I never thought the house was dirty before but seeing how much the vacuum picked up I was very surprised. The house was noticeably cleaned and the air actually felt fresher inside. After this first impression I was going to give this a 5 star review. Sure it'd get stuck a few places and the top of the vacuum got totally scratched up from the staples under the sofas that hold the lining on but I was very impressed. Then I started thinking about it a little and how inefficient it is. It bounces around randomly and over much much time it'll eventually hit everything but it'll waste a lot of time going around in circles in the same spot that its already cleaned for 15 minutes. Its great, but it could be smarter. The more expensive models have mapping technology and build a map of your house. Using that map they can efficiently clean the entire house and you can block off areas like 'dont go near the dogs water bowl' for instance. The mop feature was completely useless in this house because of all the carpet and rugs. The vacuum isn't smart enough to avoid them and since there's no map you can't tell it to not go into the carpeted rooms. So your options are shut doors or create some kind of physical barriers to prevent it from going into other rooms. Not ideal at all. Then I took it to another large house that's predominantly tile with just a single run in the house. The vacuum still worked but it picked up much less dust and dirt mostly because the house was cleaner and didn't have a dog. However, that's when I started testing how well it'd pick up debris it'd pass over on the tile. I'd use a broom to sweep up a tiny pile and then position the vacuum to go straight over it. It'd get maybe 75% of the pile. A little disappointing because any normal vacuum cleaner would have easily have picked up the entire thing. I still liked the thing though. Even if the suction wasn't strong enough to pick up the entire tiny pile of dust it still picked up about 75% of it and more importantly I didn't have to do anything for that to happen. But this is about when the problems started. I noticed one day the vacuum had left its charger by itself and started roaming the house when no one was home. I found it tangled up in a cord in a bedroom I hadn't put away because I didn't turn the vacuum on. It pretty much destroyed the cord and luckily it wasn't plugged into the outlet because it might have started a fire. I remember reading other reviews about people saying it just starts on its own and so now I started paying more attention to it. Then I moved to a new empty apartment with no carpets, no rugs, no furniture, and let it do its thing. I figured I'd let it clean the place before we started moving things in. It did an ok job. I tried out the mop attachment since there wasn't anything in the house to mess it up. When I first saw the mop attachment I thought man this thing is a gimmick. The water reservoir fits maybe 3/4 cup of water at most. It does work though and it lasts way longer than I expected too. The interesting thing about it is the mop attachment would catch the 25% of dirt and dust that the vacuum wouldn't get so I kind of like it when there's no carpets or rugs. But...the vacuum started turning on by itself again. We still haven't completely moved into the apartment and aren't even staying there yet but every day when I come back to the apt the vacuum is in some random room either battery drained or with a cord stuck in it. I turn it off by pressing and holding the power button, put it back on the charger, and tomorrow it'll be in another spot. I tried leaving the door on the top open but that didn't stop it. I haven't figured out exactly how to reproduce the random turning on yet but the vacuum kind of scares me now. Because it turns on by itself when no one is home and because its already destroyed a cord I worry this thing will burn the place down one day while no one is home. As crazy as it sounds, when I leave the apartment now, I flip the entire vacuum on its back so it can't start up on its own anymore and destroy anything. Overall, my review went from 5 down to 3. Its ok. It has serious problems with the random turning on and its got efficiency issues with missing 25% of the dust it passes over. I'm entirely sold on robot vacuums now but I were to buy another one it wouldn't be this model at all.

M80 Pro a Great Value for a Great Product w/ some flaws
Preamble: I have kids so there was toys laying around, I have a dog that sheds, the main floor where the M80 is located is on the main floor it has 3 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room and washroom at approximately 1,000 sq. ft. Purchased this M80 back in September, as it came from the US it took approximately a month to be delivered. It arrived before the expected date which was a bonus. Upon opening the package everything was in good shape and easily labelled for assembly. Within 2 minutes the M80 was assembled and ready to charge. Charging took the recommended 4 hours before the first cleaning could take place. Upon first cleaning I was rather impressed with all of the dirt that the M80 picked up but it also picked up little toys and other things. This is definitely one of the down falls of this M80 but I believe any will have the same issue and also if you have a home with many different rooms that are separated by doorways you must ensure that the door is open all the way to the wall to ensure that M80 does not get stuck, also ensure blankets, clothing, towels, etc. are not left on the floor as to not get it stuck in the main brush of the M80. The M80 cleans hardwood flooring and carpets with ease. I have a few transitions within my main floor and it transitions without a single issue. M80 does a great job at cleaning in tight corners and around legs of sofas and tables. When the M80 made its way into the washroom it did a great job of getting around the toilet and counters. Dry cleaning was great and every day I have the M80 scheduled to do an edge clean (the vacuum follows the walls) it does a great job and clears away all hair and dust along baseboards. Now using the spot cleaning with kids has been a godsend as the remote allows you control the M80 and move it to the location of the spot cleaning. M80 does a great job with items as big as goldfish (crackers) and as small as hair. Now the full cleaning Auto cycle has 2 settings which are normal and max. The max setting does drain the battery a bit faster than the normal setting but that is to be expected from the higher suction. As for the battery life to clear the entire house it only takes about 2 hours to clean my main floor and has plenty of battery to make it home. I have never had an issue with it dying and not making it back to its cradle for recharge. It can occasionally take some time for the M80 to sort out where it is heading to get back to the cradle but it does eventually find its way back. Overall, experience it is a great a great product and at its price, there is no going wrong, it is perfect for people with busy lives as a great clean up tool but it is not a full replacement for a manual vacuum. It keeps things clean and fresh keeps the house tidy and allows vacuuming to be done less frequently by you.

Great value for the money and suprisingly great results
Update: 6 months in, I now have 3 Ecovac Deebot M80's one for each of my house levels. They are great and my whole house gets vacuumed daily in an hour - wish it would do stairs ...:D ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I am so pleased. I never thought I would find a robo vac useful - it completely changed the look and shine of my floors with regular use and damp mopping. Not the highest tech but great in it's range. It has a remote but doesn't have an easy time finding home for recharge. Not an issue for me as I drag it all around to different areas and am home when it is in use. Additionally, it is very easy to clean and empty the collection bin. It's pretty good at navigating and not getting stuck. I can't believe that I haven't bought one until now as I have animals and can't imagine not having the unit. It's not overly loud and even my shy cats stay in close proximity. Hope this helps...

Primera impresión
The media could not be loaded.
